I enjoyed the movie on a flight to New York years ago and immediately put out a hold on the novel, waited months for it to come in, and then did not get past the first chapter. Recently after having read some good romance novels (to your credit btw, Helen Hoang binge sesh) I thought of it on a whim and borrowed it again..... mistake. Immediately returned.

This is a book series I can't really say is good and I don't really like any of the characters, audience stand-in Rachel included, but I have read it multiple times to pick it apart in my head so I honestly can't wait to read what you have to say

honestly I am pretty interested to check out the movie, I feel like having to tell the story without all of the narration explaining family history, brand names, etc, will really trim things down! the plot is functional but it's buried under a MOUNTAIN of junk

Rachel I'm okay with (for now), if only because she's barely here at all? I really expected her to be more of a main character proper, but she's just a plot device to get the family buzzing. I do like Astrid though, her spending habits are atrocious but she's sweet and I hope she kills her husband

I never got round to watching the film since it came out during my hating-"feminine"-things phase of figuring out the gender thing, but based on how my friends talked about the film and book, I just assumed they were both very good so I'm very interested to hear your take on it.
