Seriously, though - how do trainers tell which Pokeball holds which Pokemon at a glance?

If it was me I would mark them with 1 to 6 pips that could be felt like brail.

In the manga the balls are translucent so they can see who's inside.

I think there was an episode where everybodys pokemon got taken by rocket, and ash couldnt tell his pokemon from others. But people probably put their pokemon in a specific order on their belt/whatever. Speaking of balls, does that zigzagoon have...?
