Dev Video: Color Masking (Patreon)

Thanks to tester feedback, we've created a new shader that supports custom color masking on Cosmetics! This means we can now exclude certain parts of the texture from being recolored and designate 2 other areas for custom color choices.

Currently, only the first color slot can be remapped by players... however, support now exists in the shader in case we ever have time to add a secondary recolor feature! Until then, the second color slot must be set by devs in the game engine.

In the above video, you can see a simpler example of this. The zipper and metal bits on the hoodie are excluded from recoloring!

This is useful for lots of items, including the Santa Hat. Players will often want to recolor the main fabric, but not the white ball or cuff around the head. Though, as mentioned, the shader now supports recoloring these extra areas too... but we just don't have time to set up a feature for it in-game yet!

Simple changes like these are thanks to your feedback. It helps us prioritize what matters most to players, while also allowing us to squeeze the most out of all our lovingly-made assets. Even seemingly simple features can take quite some time to add!
