POLL: Inclusion of Background Characters as Silhouettes
- Yes, I like this silhouette style for crowded scenes - use it more often 378
- No, I don't like it - it breaks immersion and should be avoided 17
- I'm indifferent - either approach works for me 98
Woah, two posts in two days! I'm spoiling you guys. Anyway, this one is a poll post regarding a new environmental style I'm experimenting with for this update.
I wanted the dinner scene at the Dragon's Head Tavern to feel more crowded and alive. So far, the tavern has been pretty empty and I've left the atmosphere largely to your imagination, but it also wouldn't be feasible to create full-fledged characters just to populate background scenes.
So I've found a middle ground: completely black silhouettes.
Take a look at the tavern environment with these silhouettes dining and socializing! It certainly feels more alive and populated, giving the space a busy atmosphere. However, the style may seem odd since the background characters are completely blacked out rather than having any detail.
Hence the poll: Do you guys like this look? Should I implement it in more scenes going forward (for example, going back and making the market scene with Daisy feel more populated), or should I just leave crowd atmosphere to ambient sounds if this breaks immersion?
Let me know your thoughts!
