For those who don't know, in between books I show everyone blueprints for the main characters' soulhomes, produced by the wonderful reader Lamsey. This week we have Theo's soulhome as of the end of the book, featuring both his new basement lab and the new chambers that had a big impact on the climax.

I also threw in the previous reminder about Theo's hybrid pyramid design, for anyone who has forgotten or struggled to visualize it.

Next week we should have a text-heavy post about the next book, and throughout the interim period I will try to keep things interesting one way or another. Anyway, that's all I have to say, so please enjoy the blueprints. ^-^

Thank you SL, thank you Lamsey! So, discussion time… when do we think Theo is going to do his immortality conduit? Stronghold tier, or Dominion? (Later?)

goi

based on how theo and Senka discussed the duel Pyramid design that he is going with he is planning a ring around Stronghold though he might wait till Dominion to fully fire it

FoolRegnant

I always forget, does the height of a shielding wall effect its use?

Samuel Strode

From what I remember if the shielding wall Goes all the way up it can hide the level of the soul crafter and of course makes it harder for foreign energies from entering the soul home

Shweta Narayan

yeah so iirc that's why Tythes has the wall all the way up so nobody can see what's in his Soulhome. -- and we saw it first with Nanjuma, whose high wall let him mask as a first tier when he was a ruler

Shweta Narayan

one question I've got remaining -- assuming he has all the materials he needs and they've been with him through ascensions, *can* he make and fire the conduit at Stronghold? or does the nearly-done conduit need to go through an ascension?

Shweta Narayan

Thank you both for the goodies! I'm realizing looking through Theo's blueprints that I don't remember some of these materials/where he got them/what they do. Guess it's time to binge the whole series again 😆

With the visualization, I can see the trajectory of the Gemini Paths better. A Moebius circle, huh ? No wonder his singularity was boosted so much.

Imp

Basically, each floor of the wall let's you appear as 1 level weaker. A stronghold with 3 floor wall can appear like an Archcrafter. Full wall to appear as a non-craftee

nope

I know its not complete, but isn't his immortality conduit partially constructed? Or does he just have a bunch of materials getting repeated advancement reinforcements to prepare? I was hoping to see what the structure would look like. I am still not sure if the ring will be around floor 5, or diagonal from floors 4-6... or maybe around floor 5 but tall enough to touch 4/6? Looking forward to more bits on the conduit!

Laggmaster

Could we get the pyramid outlined by tier floor? Example would be tier 4 page having the pink and green colors to indicate which ones are corporeal and ethereal?

Laggmaster

I am guessing the flesh nexus, mountain heart, and lost flesh are corporeal and the ghost prism is the ethereal.

goi

kind of both You can fire a Conduit with zero Ascensions to begin with but that leads to a higher chance of it breaking as an Example we know at least part of the route of Guchiro Conduit was made and fired on his Authority floor Since it was mentioned he competed it on said floor to Quote Senka on it ""I'm guessing that if the materials are powerful but not highly bonded to your soul, that's what leads to a Conduit breaking?" "Exactly! Any idiot with money can buy a ton of powerful materials, but that kind of power isn't what's relevant to spiritual immortality. In my era, it was generally said that your Conduit route should be in place for a full ascension, and your materials for two.""

The Deep Well Uhmbali

What if he made huge glass windows on both sides of his 5th floor? He could make them like lenses to capture and focus external Cantae and enrich his feline solar. Like the Gemini paths could be circular and with the windows being square.

goi

more he has a bunch of segments of the ring made and ready to go they were in the Basement during his Ascension "One was the pieces for his Immortality Conduit, which he had partially assembled in his basement before tying down. He had almost all the pieces now, so in theory they were growing more deeply integrated with his soulhome, preparing for eventual immortality."

From memory, Sarah has said that there is *some* lesser benefit from further increasing the height of your shielding wall, beyond just hiding your tier further - it can provide *some* further protection from attacks on your soulhome, but I’m pretty sure she said the benefit is small, rapidly diminishing returns, and it’s the opportunity cost vs just working on your soulhome that means most soulcrafters don’t prioritise it beyond the first level. (SL please correct if I’ve misremembered…) I’m wondering if Kikree’s wall might have more importance in her overall design compared to average, based on her last ascension…

Elliott

Hrmm so if Theo puts it in place now, it can go through his Stronghold -> Dominion ascension and be sealed (during that? After that?)

sarahlin

Everyone is remembering correctly! The basic defensive features of a shielding wall have diminishing returns, but it increasingly hides the soulhome, and allows a soulcrafter to appear as many tiers lower as they have tiers of wall.

sarahlin

That's correct about the materials, which have been preparing for many books now. The ring will be diagonal, between the two pyramids.

sarahlin

While it might be best to keep up the format for the main blueprints, I could look into doing that, sure. You're correct about the materials in your above comment.

Shweta Narayan

i didn't know why I didn't see it before but this is actually kinda confusing me - like, somehow a shielding wall on the ground floor makes the top floor invisible? eg...for Theo to look like an Authority, someone looking at his Soulhome would need to not see the four levels rising above the wall, and only see three? The one storey wall hides floor 1 literally but somehow via soulhome magic it also hides the top floor?

sarahlin

The difference is feeling someone's general strength (which the characters do all the time) and analyzing their soulhome in detail (which requires close analysis or a technique like Nauda's eyeglass). For direct analysis, the shielding wall blocks only what it does in a logical physical sense. But that's not what's happening when people are sensing soulcrafters at a distance. Think of it like each floor of the soulhome "broadcasting" its strength. If someone has four floors, but one level of shielding wall, only three of the floors are broadcasting. This doesn't hold up to close analysis, but that's also not what it's used for.

FoolRegnant

I love how the characterization is also told through soul homes, even down to the detail of the shielding walls - Theo uses one level of wall because he doesn't really care about hiding himself and the benefits of making it higher don't outweigh the costs.

Michael Proffitt

this comment helped me to visualize it. Im guessing like a real blackhole he is making a ring to circle his singularity forever like a photon ring or accretion disk.

Shweta Narayan

one of my favorite things about the series is how intensely personal the process can be and how much their power is also their characterization. (less when people use standard blueprints of course)

Wolven

Really keen for Dominion level soulcrafting because Theo’s plans are crazy. I imagine this balancing act between 3 monuments and a singularity is going to turn him into the strongest Dominion around. It’ll be interesting to see how the others keep up
