Well, people have been asking for updated blueprints and these are long overdue - that's on me, not the indefatigable Lamsey. These images represent the characters' soulhomes as of the end of Wakespire.

These get longer with each book, but I'm not sure I have many notes for the newest editions. For those who had lingering questions about Fiyu's blueprint, hopefully this clears those up. You can also see what Nauda has finished after all her remodeling alongside what she still has left to do. Feel free to ask any other questions!

This has been an insanely busy month for me, but Deathseed is getting closer to ready for release. Please look forward to that alongside more of the usual bonus content.

Whoa😍😍😍😍😍😍

Looking forward to Deathseed it has the most gothic name of any of the books so far

Thank you! Nauda’s design has answered the question I was going to ask - presumably the max height of a shielding wall (once your soul expands at Archcrafter and you can build one) is the same height as your sky - so the current tier. Is there any additional protection/benefit from building a wall that high, other than (selectively?) being able to hide your soulcrafting/level?

sarahlin

You're making some correct assumptions: the height of a shielding wall is limited by the height of your sky, and hiding your soulcrafting tier is indeed selective. Floors covered by a shielding wall are nearly impossible to discern by any technique, so there's an advantage against opponents spying. A higher shielding wall isn't a major benefit when it comes to cantae bolts or fireballs, but it does offer more protection against certain high end soulcrafting-based techniques.

Runcible Technician

I have some questions about shield walls as well. Is there a perspective doppler effect when it comes to shield walls.? If we take the description literally, you approach an observed soulhome like walking up to a building in three dimensions, but is there any magical reality effect going on? Can you approach a soulhome from 'above' and find a shield wall in front of you that just sorta wooshes to a 'ground' view as you approach. Also what would non-human senses see if they looked at a soulhome? Say you have a creature that sees with sound, is the sound stopped by the conceptual shield wall? What about a tremorsense?

sarahlin

Within a soulhome, things work more or less like reality, but when observing one from the outside it's a more magical phenomenon. So the orientation of soulhomes is not set by the soulcrafter. You can't fly overhead and look straight down over their walls: from the outside you'll still be seeing roughly the same view, if that makes sense. A reasonably well-crafted shielding wall will block all attempts to observe a soulhome, including things like sonar or a tremorsense: it is a barrier around the entire soul, and in this way breaks the usual convention of physical logic a bit. However, the physical logic is still valid when we return to high end techniques: special senses are more likely to be able to penetrate the defenses of a shielding wall in unique ways, for example a tremorsense giving information about the foundation or basement.

Runcible Technician

Hahaha now I'm imagining an assassin hanging on a wall, looking down at the soulhome of a target from above and the view is parallel with the wall. Pretty funny to think about.

Do Nauda's "leg" towers not have "feet"?

Magnus Bigelow

Where are Theo’s stairs / ladders to go from floor to floor? Or does he not have them?

Lamsey

He levitates up and down his central singularity column, like an elevator shaft without the car.

Lamsey

No - it's more of an abstract blocky representation of a body, rather than having realistic proportions. Kinda like a stickman drawing, but with bricks.

These images are well done. You mentioned previously that it's expensive to include images in the book. I started wondering about if you could use QR codes strategically located in each book to link a reader to web pages where the images are stored. (For example - when a character has fully crafted a floor in their soul home you could have a code that takes them to an image of the completed floor without a spoiler image of what their next floor will look like in a following book) I looked online to learn a bit about QR codes and found that there are both industry standards and free code generators. Perhaps this is a question for the publisher about whether publishers treat QR codes as images themselves, or like text in a book. No idea how involved this would be - simply hunting for an option for you to provide pictures that can be linked to from the book so you can spend less on the printing.

sarahlin

Interesting suggestion! Using QR codes would be far outside of my area of knowledge, so I'm not sure. I would have to check the files sizes, because I don't know if they would take up as much as an image.

Imp

Hm. Interesting - seems like the barrier wards, static stone and null stone are feeding into the staff just as much as into the glove, notemeralds and necklace. That tower looks like a mini power cube

Lamsey

QR codes consist of square blocks of monochrome colour, so they compress very well. I used the generator at https://goqr.me/ to create a QR code link to one of the blueprint images that was recently posted on Reddit, and the PNG comes in at only 958 bytes. The trickiest bit would probably be defining permanent URLs for each image, since you don't have an official website and third-party image hosts can be fickle. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2e8fmuyfix91ppuv3305t/twc-test-qrcode.png?rlkey=h79k6100360sn5h5kfre9r96w&dl=0

Also the 'one hundred years later' problem. That shit won't scan for legacy readers. If that matters.

Mr. tj333

Does Fiyu's meditation chamber enhance the dark blade? It seems in the wrong place for that as the heart chamber flows directly to the dark blade.

sarahlin

It doesn't enhance it much. The dark blade was designed to be a fast and efficient technique, so the flow goes directly: heart chamber -> technique room -> window.

Mr. tj333

Makes sense. What is the main use of the meditation chamber? I don't recall it from the book.
