Another diverse world to cover this week! I look forward to spending more time in Aathal, but that won't fit into the plot until later in the series. Please enjoy and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Meanwhile, however, I have questions for you! And some good news for those following audiobooks: Travis Baldree found more time in his schedule and so you'll be getting more TWC audiobooks soon. ^-^

One of these will be an omnibus edition of books 1-3, which will be relevant even to those who don't care about audiobooks. The audiobook needs an equivalent ebook (because Audible, Amazon, and some listeners prefer that) and I hope to make this edition a good starting point for anyone interested in the series. It will contain the first three books, the short stories I posted earlier, and some new appendices. The plan is also for it to include more example soulhomes, which is where you come in.

Are there any generic soulhomes that you'd like to see after the second and third book? Comparable to the example Farmguard or Myufuru blueprints from previous tutorials, which will be after the first book. Take it as a given that each book will include updated versions of Theo, Nauda, and Fiyu - is there anything else you'd like to see?

In general, please feel free to give your thoughts on anything else you'd like to see for the omnibus. I hope to get some ideas for other soulhomes to make this a nice edition with some rounded content in addition to the books themselves.

These ones are not basic, but I would enjoy seeing Theo's old soulhome that outlines the flaws that slowed his advancement. It would also be interesting to see the soulhome he designed but did not build because he was no longer compatable with the design. I can't remember if they traveled to Ichil in the first 3 books or if it's the 4th. Your Ichil graphic mentions the world having different types of sensory abities. Showing so of these would be nice. When they first enter the world, they did not have a good means of hiding their soul homes. I would be interested in seeing magmafore's (audiobook listener for the first book so not sure how to spell it) soulhome.

Mr. tj333

I'd like to see an armament crafter, if that fits. Or a basic soulhome from each world to match with the species of each world that you have done.

Mr. tj333

Magnafore's design would be an interesting one to see. I would like to see some good vs bad designs.

sarahlin

Theo's old soulhome has been a common request; if I ever do it, I'll probably do a full feature about it instead of putting it in an appendix. They travel to Ichil in the third book, so that could definitely work.

Elliott

Second Magnafore’s design (or previous 2 designs! Did he pick something radically new for his 3rd time, or refine previous blueprints) plus where he *would* have take it if he’d survived.

Elliott

Crafter-centric designs would be great from Noven (or any non-combat specialised design… how do various Mundhin researchers specialise?)

Elliott

Random design/Soulcrafting question: unless I’ve missed something, the *implication* seems to be that everyone so keeps their weirkeys outside of their soulhome… are there designs that make use of weirkeys *inside* a soulhome, or is that territory?

goi

Senka seems able to use a weirkey that she swallowed one and it is in her soulhome though if that is a high tier thing or not. though she does say she can only really move herself and has failed to move others with it but again kind of a special case due to is that due to how messed up her soulhome is or an inherit downside

goi

Would definitely like to see a rough common blueprint from each world or even a few to get an ideal of the differences Would also love crafting designs

Elliott

Yeah, that’s where part of my wondering is coming from… does physically swallowed mean spiritually incorporated in this case? If not, is swallowing a weirkey just a good practical way to keep one hidden? 😅

sarahlin

You can't build a weirkey into your soulhome and also use it as a standard weirkey (in Senka's case, it's not really integrated into a normal soulhome). Weirkeys are made from sublime materials, but they're materials that are best used outside soulhomes, just like the stone used in some defenses, or levitating materials used in flying vehicles. It is possible to be a weirkey specialist and use them and similar sublime materials in your soulhome, but it's not common because the standard use is good enough for most. The exact limits of weirkey usage will be a plot point in Deathseed.

Elliott

Some low-tier Landguard blueprints might be nice to see; whether they often follow Tatian generic blueprints, or if you have to be a breakaway/original soulcrafter to qualify for the Landguard is currently a (presumed minor plot) ambiguous point.

sarahlin

Landguard blueprints are a fun idea, but you're definitely going to have to wait on them as opposed to getting them in the first few books. Maybe I can develop a feature on different standard types of Authorities as the characters continue in that realm.

Jerek Kimble

Blacksilver Authority blueprints. Homez (and I guess by extension, Asplundat ) blueprints.

Elliott

Random question: are there any know *temporally* aligned sublime materials or designs? (I’m imagining abilities like peeking into the future, messaging or visiting the past) We’ve seen time differential mentioned between the 9 Worlds and Earth, and Theo think about possible time dilation effects of his singularity so time has come up as a concept, but have you hard ruled out any particular time travel possibilities for narrative purposes? (Brandon Sanderson and John Bierce have both talked about 1. Not wanting to write time travel stories 2. not wanting to deal with the headache of time travel possibility, and I think both have explicitly in-world ruled it out of their magic systems now)

sarahlin

Those would be more book four, but the desire is noted for then!

sarahlin

I love time travel stories, but don't think that time travel powers belong in stories that aren't built for them, so time travel is impossible in the Nine Worlds. You could have an ability that calculates from the present to try to predict the future, and time dilation exists as it does in physics, but no jumping to the past or future.

Runcible Technician

Generics? Is there a generic Ichili soulhome? Caverndwellers or somesuch? Merchants?

Andrew B

Wouldn't mind seeing the Aplundat Movement blueprints if you haven't detailed them yet

staubgeist

Quick question how many people can travel via 1 weirkey?

sarahlin

A soulcrafter can transport people within a certain range around them, limited by their tier and mental focus (the base range at Authority is smaller than a room). You will get a scene directly showing this in Deathseed.

Elliott

Thanks, I like that way of thinking about it (and good that no one’s going to come across an overpowered soulhome that can see the future, and change the past if you defeat them!) This has made me realise there’s one type of low-level design from the first 3 books I’d love to see: librarians. Presumably a reading room (which I remember people have been asking to see!) to enhance memory for where books are, but beyond that… it would be great to learn what useful non-combat things a librarian would build into their soulhome. Something to increase reading speed? Wakefulness/reading stamina? Creativity/imagination?

Solusandra

Could athali seeds be used to make a heart tree in one's soul-home? And if yes, would they act as a tulpa? a sublime item? Or a possessing spirit? Cause that dryad variant looks useful

sarahlin

You couldn't use sapient Aathali materials in your soulhome, but they do have some materials that could produce a similar effect. Aathali soulcrafters already use them to enhance such properties, so others could use them with additional work.
