Hello dear Patrons,This morning, I logged into the SCS Forum to check if new messages were posted on the Grand Utopia topic. What a surprise to see, not one or two but three messages from one of their moderators telling me that the topic does not respect (once again) the rules of their forum.

Indeed, in my last post, in response to a member about the compatibility of v1.12 with ETS 1.43, I briefly mentioned that I would make some modifications to Grand Utopia to prepare its compatibility with Mygotopia. This brief mention must have aroused their curiosity because the moderator now requires me:

- not to mention a "paying" mod on the forum- not to include the link to my site if I mention "paying" mods on the latter- to provide technical support for my mods on their forum as well (as you know, I prefer to centralize your requests via a dedicated mailbox)

To be honest with you, I'm tired of the SCS forum and their rules which only put obstacles in the way of content creators, except in those of Promods (which bypasses the payment rule by proposing a free version which requires you to download several files at an extremely slow speed) or TruckersMP (which simply have a Patreon as well, but there, everyone can talk about it on their forum, it doesn't bother them in the least). And I'm not even talking about all the map mods who also have a Patreon and who are also present on the SCS forum.

So I wanted to inform you of the situation by writing this post and also get your opinions on the matter.

For my part, I am really thinking of leaving the SCS Forum altogether and thus letting them delete (once again) the Grand Utopia topic. I don't agree at all with their unequal treatment and it doesn't make me want to leave my topic on the site.[FR] De nouveaux soucis avec le Forum SCSBonjour chers Patrons,Ce matin, je me connecte au Forum SCS pour vérifier si de nouveaux messages furent postés sur le topic de Grand Utopia.

Thing is that the SCS forums are an important avenue to find out about mods for most people. So I propose you only talk about the main Grand Utopia mod there and not mention anything about Patreon add ons like Mygotopia. Also you could bring up the points about Promods and Truckers MP to the mods as well and ask why they can take Patreons or donations. Just My 2 cents.

Speaking from a legal point of view I can sympathize with SCS and their official reason. They say that if you use other brands (which I know you don't - but then I have driven on 97.5 % of Utopia Roads and they haven't - and they wouldn't want to check either) like for instance changing "IKA Bohäg" into IKEA - which ProMods does - then some creative lawyer could construe a case that I only pay for your Mod in order to have the privilege to deliver to IKEA - i.e. that you benefit from that brand name and that SCS by making this mod available on their forum is aiding this copyright infringement. Now the question is far less trivial than it seems - some would argue that IKEA is a real-life company, representing it in a computer game based on reality is nothing but fair use - but I can understand that SCS wants to avoid the trouble. AFAIK Czech law allows/tolerates copyright infringement, if you don't benefit from it materially so that would motivate them to only allow free mods on their forum. ProMods operates in a grey area as they maintain that the paid download only pays admin costs, i.e. they either just break even or if they do more than that they augment the free download (as was apparently the case when they switched from 1$ to 1€), so don't make a profit which would count in any copyright infringement case. Why not do it like ROEXTENDED does - just keep the free version on SCS, post direct download links - in their case to sharemods, I think google.drive works the same - obliquely refer to your website and trust in google for the rest?
