Gorbachev is the highest authority in the USSR at this time. Under his “glasnost” policy reform, the Soviet government slowly started to be more transparent and open to outside ideas like a more free economic system.

By this time in the history the Soviet government had actually become much more transparent and lenient so you are seeing the softened up version of USSR and thats crazy

The dust and dirt underground from inside the tunnel are safe. 12 meters of solid ground blocks effectively 100% of radiation (Beer–Lambert law). Fans would cause air circulation meaning more fresh air from the outside would flow into the tunnel. Maybe this could cause contaminated dust at the entrance to get blown in or stirred up? I don't think it's a huge risk considering their overall situation, but it's one of those decisions someone made and they pass down orders. But then again... if you inhale radioactive matter, that hasn't decayed yet and it decays inside your lungs - RIP and gg. The filters in the masks help a lot.

The makeup in this show is so good it’s scary. I just couldn’t imagine I would definitely be begging for a bullet like Legasov said

The painting at 57:45 is "Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan". It depicts the shock and regret of the Tsar Ivan IV just after he fatally wounded his son out of an anger burst. It controversial to some, but one of things it symbolizes is that how unchecked authority and rage can harm even the dearest.
