The bravery and sacrifice of the men in this show cannot be overstated. However its not like most of them really had a choice. If the miners refused to work they would most likely have been executed. Very sad episode for sure! Just 2 minutes on that roof and half your life is gone. As you might say- that is insane! Also if you haven't realized it yet the soldier in the opening scene is Pip from GoT.

You’re too pure for a show like this lol

I've never noticed til now but the soldier at the very beginning plays Pyp in game of thrones!

If those wooden boxes were contaminated, it would probably spread with the smoke. Most of the radioactive matter would stay behind in the ashes. Most radioactive atoms are heavy except for Carbon 14 for example, which would react to Carbondioxide (a gas). The chemical reaction of burning doesn't change the radioactive properties of the atoms at all. Upside: Matter condensed into Ash. Downside: Radioactive particles spread with smoke and steam into the air.

The trucks sprayed a liquid called Bourda that binds dust particles. It's a little sticky and aparently a byproduct of sugar production called molasses is an ingridient. I'm not 100% sure, but the helicopters probably sprayed stuff that kills plants, similar to agent orange. Or maybe also some dust-binding liquids.
