My theory is getting more justified innthis episode with Mellos refusing to give Viserys better treatment. My theory: Citadel is in Old Town and their lords Hightowers. I believe Hightowers and Maesters are working together. I think Maesters are either not treating Viserys' illness properly, or they're trying to get him worse.

Its frustrating to see Alicent go along with all the patriarchal bs thats expected of her even though it causes her so much suffering, and then its even more frustrating to watch rhaenyra rebel against it and seemingly never be content or willing to compromise at all even for her own wellbeing or that of her loved ones

The two dragons you saw flying in should be from House Vellaryon based on the seahorse sigil sailed ships above which they were flying. So Rhaenys and Laenor's dragons. Mum and son riding into the capital on their dragons. Also in Driftmark when Viserys visited, Rhenys was wearing her riding clothes I believe. I think she was just back from riding her dragon based on her outfit and gloves. Just like how Rhenyra was in episode 1 when she returned after her ride.

corlys doesnt want her on the throne he wants her legacy on the throne. jaehaerys named baelon after her father died which already had the queen, the dowager queen (his mother), the baratheons and velaryons upset. during the great counsel her claim was actually for Laenor she was only going to rule as regent until he came of age.

Otto may be an opportunist, but there is historical precedent to what he said Alicent, both in real life and in the Game of Thrones universe. We saw it with Joffrey and Robert’s bastards. Whether Rhaenyra would actually take that route is a separate conversation.

Just a pre warning, the HOTD fanbase is extremely passionate about choosing sides in this series. I would recommend not reading too many comments beyond this point as people can get a little carried away with their love for either Rhaenyra or Alicent 😅

What's to gain now by the Hightowers, if the King dies? No way Aegon is even seriously considered as a 3 year old. Would be in their best interest to wait longer so Aegon can grow up and contest. The current Maester is just bad at his job..

They can kill the king and have Otto or Alicent as regent for a very looong time.. Alyssa Velaryon was regent until Jaehaerys I took over.. the Maester conspiracy is one of the most popular theory in ASOIAF dating back to King Aenys 1.. i dont know whats controversial about this comment

The fact that this show has come down to choosing sides is part of the problem, sadly. This story isn't primarily about who's right or wrong. I don't even think it's top 3, yet that was their big marketing angle, despite the showrunners already choosing a side within the story they've written.

Hi Alicha!! I'm a little late to the party, but the HotD fanbase is incredibly passionate, especially when it comes to Team Black (Rhaenyra) and Team Green (Aegon II). Before going too deep into the comments, I'd recommend some caution (discussions around this show can get intense fast). A lot of viewers approach the Dance of Dragons like it's a competition where one side has to be "good" and the other has to be "evil." I'd also say it's worth remembering that HotD itself is an adaptation of a historical-style book, and that the showrunners have taken significant creative liberties. In Season 1, the writing biases aren't overwhelming, but there are already moments (like the white stag and Rhaenyra in 1x3) that frame certain characters in certain lights. I've already seen quite a few comments here trying to push you toward one side or the other. My advice would be: try to experience the story without letting the fandom (or the faction wars) shape your perspective too much. The Dance of Dragons works best when you see the tragedy on both sides, not when it's treated like a scoreboard. Happy viewing!! 🐉
