Zach VanDyke

this show is so god damn peak

raine

oh my god i thought this was coming out friday im about to watch this at work🙏

Mari

that coin the man handed the inn keep is a gold dragon which is worth 210 silvers stags which could buy a horse i never noticed from both book and show but i think he drunkenly overpaid which is why she snatched it so quickly lol

Charlie

Ahhhhhhh I’ve been waiting months for this cant wait

Nick Jones

Its never directly explained in the show or novella so I dont think its a spoiler, but its interesting imo. Dunk has 3 horses. A Palfrey, a Stot and a Destrier. A Palfrey is a "comfortable riding horse", valuable and good for travel, surefooted. A Destrier was a term for a warhorse, "only ridden in tourney or battle", and a Stot was a "swayback", or "Inferior" horse that was best used for carrying saddlebags. People in "medieval" ages, fantasy in this case, didnt have a great understanding of genetics. They bred big horses with big horses to try and reproduce a Destrier. Or raised them for specific jobs. Not really relevant to the story but kinda interesting. Also Ep2 mentioned a Hastilude which is kind of a fun word for a "Martial games", basically jousting/massed combat/melee. This show did SUCH a fantastic job sticking to the book dialogue and language you would expect from "time period". Peter Claffey is so genuine and, like GRRM said, "Its like Egg jumped off the pages".

Michael West

You're too smart for this show :) You are right the vibe is so different from Game of Thrones. So much more chill and upbeat. Dunk idolized Ser Arlan so much that he's much greater in his mind than to everyone else. You are going to love the rest of this season. Thanks for such a great channel.

Nick Lackie

Well, can’t wait to get home, guess I’m watching this at work!

Burak Yağız

Music in this show is just so good cant wait for the next episodes

Zach VanDyke

I think Egg wanted to be put down because he was nervous about the jousting as well. They had shown the squires handing lances to the knights right before that so similar to Dunk I think the reality of what he’s planning to do with Dunk is setting in watching it. Even if he’s excited, he’s nervous as well.

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

When Egg called Dunk "My Lord", all I could think was what Tywin told Arya. "m'lord". Lowborn boys says "m'lord". Not "my lord". If you're going to pose as a commoner, you must do it properly.

Mari

baelor is the oldest and maekar is the youngest of 4 and their mother is a martell baelor and the third brother look like her while the 2nd and maekar look like their father.

Widad

This generation of Targaryen is half Dornish (on some cases 3/4 Dornish) so that's the reason we are seeing so many dark haired Targaryen. Baelor and Maekar's mother is a Martell for example

Brian

This generation of Targaryens had a lot of political marriages to other houses so a lot more brown haired Targs are common in this generation

Ambrosio Sanchez

Targs in their flop era. important background for the show.

Marcus Taylor

This show is great....IMO egg, at the jousting scene had kinda the same reaction as dunc... duncan freaked out seeing what the knights do, Egg also saw what squires do in terms of running around, getting weapons, dealing with the horses, etc

Burak Yağız

Baelor (dark haired one) is hand of the king and heir to the iron throne. Maekar is the silver haired one brother of Baelor. Younger one who mocked Dunk Aerion is Maekar's son and brown haired one who was in the joust is Baelor's son Prince Valarr. And two of Maekar's sons are missing

Juancho

The Targaryens during this time married with the Martell’s. That’s the reason for the dark hair.

charlie

This show really shows you how much they dropped the ball with the wardrobe in House of the dragon and Game of thrones it so much better in this show

Alexander Ocean

I love how we get a different perspective in this world. WIth GOT and HOTD we follow the highborns so it feels so different now following someone like DUNK and seeing how shitty everyone is to him smh. Cannot wait for your reaction to the rest! Absolutely love this show

CM

This show takes place during the brief stretch of time when the Targaryens decided that making marriage alliances was more important than keeping themselves as Valyrian as possible, so there are a lot more Targaryens who are married to people from other houses than in other eras. King Daeron's wife, for example, was a Martell.

Dae

Baelor and Valarr have dark hair because Baelors mother is Dornish, luck of the draw that Maekar didn’t

Jordan Clark

Your face on that opening scene 😂😂

Nick Jones

Okay sorry for the double comment but your timing at the start of Ep2 couldn’t have been more perfect… “He had a piece-!” (able nature). Yeah he sure fuckin did..

Jeremy

I think it’s possible Egg asked to be put down because he was worried about being recognized up on Dunk’s shoulders, but I read that scene as him suddenly not wanting to be treated like a little kid after the shot immediately before it showed the knights calling for their squires to bring replacement lances after the first tilt. It seemed to me like Egg was realizing the seriousness of it all. The girl who tells Dunk that he’s “big and stupid” or whatever it was when he’s standing outside the room, waiting to go in and ask Baelor about Sir Arlen is the daughter of Lord Ashford. The tourney is being held to celebrate her 13th nameday. That’s her father in the next scene who tells Duncan that a sword and shield don’t make him a knight and asks if he has something in writing. In the novella she isn’t actually given a name, but the show calls her Gwin. You asking about the tourney and we’ll obviously see more of it, but they don’t exactly explain how it works. Aside from the opening ceremony that we see toward the end of the second episode the basics of it are that there are 5 champions and each challenger gets to pick who they want to joust against when it is their turn. If you beat a champion, you replace them and the next challenger can choose to joust against you or one of the other 4. Raymun Fossaway (the younger Apple) asks Dunk which shield he will strike in the first episode—that was him asking which champion he planned to challenge. Also, when Dunk is talking to Egg and saying that if he could claim to be a champion of Ashford meadow, even if only for a few hours, that’s what he’s talking about. He only needs to beat one of the champions, even if he loses afterward, to claim that he “was” a champion. Unrelated to any of that, I just want to say that I really love the lines from the innkeeper in the first episode that say that she doesn’t understand the fascination with knights as they are “built the same as other men” and that she’d “never known a joust to change the cost of eggs”. The first statement sets up the theme of Dunk constantly comparing himself to these “great” lords and knights and the second is about what is actually important, which is being able to eat and survive. It also illustrates how clueless about the struggles of the small folk so many of the knights and lords are despite it being in their vows to protect them. Here they are having this lavish festival but what the people really care about is being able to feed their families. Anyway, love the reaction and your insights. I started following you because I saw you were reacting to True Detective on youtube and stuck around because of how much I enjoyed this show. Take Care

Marc van de Klashorst

"Ser Arlan... was a different man." You could say that again. The Long Knight.

IcySystem

There are many instances of Targaryen marriage aliances before this. Rhaenyra + Laenor for example. Rhaenyra's mother was an Arryn. Rhaenys father married a Baratheon as heir to the throne.

Jordan Marcial

Keep in mind, Baelor (the dark haired one) is the Hand of the King, as well as being the heir to the throne.

Flexorcist

The falling star was such a great easter Egg. Love it

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

Since now you know Egg is Aegon, in episode 1 when he decided to join Dunk and he saw a shooting star, I think Egg might have felt his mother's blessings. Egg's mother is from House Dayne. Their sigil have a falling star. And she's dead. So seeing that shooting star might have made him feel blessed at that moment. Just my interpretation. Maybe it has nothing to do with what i said😂

BloodyBen

Maekar is the youngest of 4 living sons

CM

Aemma might have been named Arryn, but her mother was a Targaryen. Same goes for Laenor's (and even before that, the Velaryons are a house with Valyrian ancestry). House Targaryen made marriage alliances with other houses, it's true, but almost always using daughters who were not expected to ever inherit anything significant, not usually with anyone whose children were seen as likely to sit the Iron Throne. There are exceptions, sure. Alicent Hightower comes to mind. But they're usually few and far between. Even Jocelyn Baratheon had a Velaryon mother. That's what's different about this period. Mariah Martell has no Valyrian ancestry, but she became queen. Jena Dondarrion likewise had no Targaryen ancestry, but she was married to the heir. In earlier or later periods, you'd never have seen multiple generations of Targaryens who were likely to sit the Iron Throne, married to people with no relation to the family and likely to have heirs with less Valyrian blood that their parents.

IQLou

Great reaction!!!!!!

IcySystem

That's a cool interpretation, I like it. Might be an intended interaction. In the books Egg was asleep when the shooting star fell and it's green, not white like the sigil of hosue Dayne. It's a symbol of luck.

IcySystem

I'm curious, what makes you say it's an easter Egg? I get the Egg word pun, but is it an easter egg otherwise?

Flexorcist

It has something to do with family and a certain legendary kingsguard..

IcySystem

My point was, that Aemma's father was Arryn. It's not about her marriage to Viserys, but her mothers marrige to an Arryn. There are even more examples. Daemon was also married to a Royce. Maegor married Alys Harroway of Harrenhal. My concern was the wording, making it seem like it was 'the' (only) brief time period this happened. But I don't disagree with you. It's more significant during this time and probably very intentional with the loss of their dragons.

bloodraven

Coins in Westeros: Gold dragon in honor of Targaryens, they remain dragons during Robert's reign; they always have a king on the other side of the coin. Silver stag in honor of the Baratheons, the first Baratheon and Hand of the King was a half bastard brother of Aegon the Conqueror. Copper star in honor of the Faith of the Seven.

My_Cousin_Mose

Let me tell you Short Queen- walking up a staircase and hitting your head on a steel I-beam hurts like a beeeeeeyoch!

iaustins

Finally I’m a member. I’ve been watching you since you released Game of Thrones S1E1! & Now I get to binge this! A good day is ahead of me! Thank you ma’am!

heisenbewg

v no fr same i'm soo excited lol + the breaking bad videos this is a golden era for Licha (i started watching like a month ago tho so i'm a new fan lol)

Jill Clay

These Targaryens have married into the Martells, hence Baelor's hair. Maelor is the youngest brother, and is always in his shadow.

Jill Clay

I love that idea about the falling star, it seems as if Egg was really young when he lost his mother.
