Arya chapters are the best, along with Theon and Tyrion chapters imo. But with Arya it’s so great because I imagine the actress in the show saying all her lines and it’s so funny

It is so nice to hear you be able to see from all the characters perspectives, where as most people try to force their own opinion into everything

Brandon Morris

I don't remember if its confirmed in the books, but I'm pretty sure George has said that Brienne is a descendant of Dunc.

Avery

it’s not in the books but George hinted at it I think

Avery

u made a really good point. In the show the less prominent houses are just basically weapons for the main house unlike in the book where they’re almost family like

About the house connections thing you mentioned: yeah, I agree! It's so interesting to think about all these people who are killing each other, backstabbing and scheming, who are at the same time living together and sharing constant mundane interactions. They are childhood friends, dinner companions, confidants, who all work and celebrate together in this relatively small community. Which makes the politicking, betrayal, and the complicated webs of loyalty, all hit so much harder. Like, people weren't just loyal to Ned Stark - they knew him on a personal level, had known him their whole lives, and many probably loved him for his leadership and honor. And when his men were slaughtered, they were killed by men who they had probably lived side-by-side with, and spoken to everyday for months. I like that this element is portrayed more in the books than in the show, but honestly I think even the books could stand to lean into it harder. It makes it all so bizarre and horrifying to think about. Imagine conspiring to kill your coworker or your roommate, or a member of your own family, except it's even worse because in the feudal era people lived together more intimately than we do now, within much more tight-knit communities.

I just got home from a ten hour shift after not sleeping the night before, got cosy in my chair, started scrolling YouTube for something to watch, then stopped dead, gasped OUT LOUD and said to myself "WAIT B*TCH IT'S SATURDAY" and sprinted to Patreon, this is my sleep soundtrack tonight 🙂‍↕️

This is one of my favourite things about Licha, and the thing that gets the most annoying comments on her YouTube video. Idk what it is lately with people ascribing your own personal views and morality onto you simply doing character analysis and doing these sorts of thought experiments. This is a great way to both fully understand the author's vision and to explore understanding people who are very different than you! Love love love it

Wait wait wait I gotta double comment again because I forgot we're getting to the Wisdom Hallyne chapter this week! I know we decided that you weren't going to listen to the audiobook but I think it could be fun for you to listen to that chapter on your own time, simply to honour the narrator Roy Dotrice. He read all five books, starting his narration all the way back in the 90s, and while some fans can't stand his voice he is famous in the narration world for holding a truly baffling number of character voices during thrones ALONE. His very last film role was a cameo in Game of Thrones as Wisdom Hallyne, and he passed away in 2017. I'm a working voice actor myself and have done several audiobooks and frankly idgaf if people like his voice or not, I know first-hand how hard it is to do what he did. Sorry for the rant but RIP to an absolute legend.

Trashboat

I don’t think Cerci was bright in the show either

1h11min OH WE ARE GETTING FED THIS WEEK✨

You're cooking with some of these theories.

There's a lot of speculation about the Reed oath. People are very drawn to this, because it contains the book series title with ice and fire. Their sigil also has similarities to the Ouroboros symbol, a circular reptile. It could mean different things. Maybe it refers to the original pact between the children and the first men. Maybe this pact/oath was extended (ice and fire) when Torrhen Stark knelt to Aegon I. Maybe the Reeds know more than the rest for one reason or another. Earth and water (Jojen) = nature, life, children of the forest, beginning Bronze and iron (Meera) = man-made/civilization, weapons/conflict, first men and andals, middle Ice and fire (both) = magic, others and dragons, end These are not my ideas, it's mostly what I read online.

Simon

I absolutely agree on this. She mostly benefited from smart people around her (Littlefinger, Tywin, Tyrion, and Qyburn most of all).

Such a little Bran. Her third eye shall open, and she will fly. Or become a tree. Something like that. (Edit: a cat tree, naturally.)

I'm fascinated by Licha's certainty that the gods 1) exist and 2) are active participants. "Arya keeps seeing death! The god of death must be looking out for her!" Well, yes. Possibly. On the other hand, there's a war on, and Arya's walking through the main war zone. There might be a connection between that and all the dead people. :p Having these Arya chapters before Cat gets to Renly’s tournament gives extra bite to Cat’s thoughts. It’s not just that Renly’s playing at war while he has real enemies everywhere, he’s playing at war when there’s a REAL war to fight, and we know what that means and why it needs to be stopped quickly. When Cat thinks about what war means that the new generation doesn’t understand yet, we -get- what she means, even if Cat’s experience of Robert’s rebellion is unquestionably nowhere near what her daughter’s seeing. Also, Arya wanting to be a swan, and being a good mother to Weasel, are really good reminders to not read the books through the lens of the show. ShowArya only ever gave us her swan-eating side. One of the many things I hadn’t caught before that Licha made me realize: Brienne, and the rest of the knights of summer, are basically what Sansa was until five seconds before Ned’s death. And Cat’s the one who raised her to be that way, in spite of all the experiences that are giving her these insights. I’m sure there’s fanfiction out there imagining Cat and Sansa reunited around now or later, because dang, that would be a fascinating conversation. 1:09:45: As for Renly having a point, well, on the one hand, yes, but on the other, it’s not the -greatest- way to go if you’re trying to set up a dynasty – which is basically why the Tyrells are marrying Margaery to you. I mean, hate to tell you, Renly, but you’re basically saying that there should be a civil war every time a king dies, since you haven’t come up with any form of democracy, not even elective monarchy. (Piss off, Season 8 Sam.) This is why the Ottomans ended up with a law requiring new sultans to strangle all their brothers… And as for Renly being worthy of the crown because he seems the perfect king – well, according to Sansa, Joffrey was the perfect prince. And clearly Robert seemed the perfect king back when he was crowned. 1:11:15: Cat’s chapters are so full of grief? Every other line she’s talking about how sad she is? OMG!!! She must be the Goddess of Grief!!! (Sorry, Licha. Love ya, but I couldn’t resist.) (By the way, I’m not of Licha’s generation and not especially in touch with evolving online lingo. Can anyone explain “T”? I get the meaning, just not where it comes from, and Urban Dictionary’s not much help.)

Zenobia

This is very true. But it is also actually true for Tyrion as well. We can see Licha constantly thinking that Tyrion should perhaps not antagonize people around him that much. Both Tyrion and Cersei view themselves as being extremely intelligent. Tyrion is smart, but his great asset right now is that he is the son Tywin and he gets aways with a lot of behavior that other people would not get away with. He is very privileged even though he is a dwarf. In one sense he and Cersei is not to different here.

Zenobia

It has recently been confirmed, due to one of the actors giving out a spoiler.

What you say about Arya is so true. I really dislike the way Arya's character went in the show. In fact I have a very opposite view of where she might end up. A lot of problems in the book comes from people not doing their duty. In these chapters we see that Renly is not prepared to do his family duty towards Stannis as his older brother. Arya is heavily connected to Lyanna. Of course I am not blaming Lyanna for Robert's rebellion there were many other forces at play already. But if Lyanna did her duty as a women of house Stark things could have gone down differently. If Robb did his duty and married a Frey girl things could have gone differently, you have a certain duty and responsibility towards your house and family. The Starks are always reminded of duty. I actually see Arya in the end doing her duty towards house and her family, the opposite of Lyanna, I could see her getting married to Gendry and him ending up as the Lord of Storms End. Arya would really be the one in charge because Gendry knows nothing about nobility. In Arya's first chapter we learn that she is great at house keeping because she is good at maths. I don't think these are throw away lines, it could show that she will be in charge of a castle in the future. Arys is very protective of her pack, she would be a fierce mother. She does not have to become a proper lady like Sansa, she can do whatever she wants in her own castle. Ironically what Ned said to Arya about her future might end up being true, but it will be on her own terms, just look at the Mormont women for example. Just because you are a lady it does not mean that you have be like Sansa and it does not mean you are completely powerless either, the world is not so black and white.

Zenobia

She means tea as in gossip.

George has repeatedly said that the gods are not active participants in this story.
