George R. R. Martin explained that he avoided writing POV chapters for kings because it preserves mystery and tension. Makes things like what the red woman is telling Stannis behind closed doors so interesting.

Halfhand is one of my favorite characters in this book

I MISSED THESE SO MUCH GIRL!!

To be fair to Shae, her fancy clothes, her jewels and her manse are Tyrion's payments. And Tyrion is threatening to take them all away "to keep her safe" and force her to become a kitchen wench If he dies, or suddenly changes his mind about her, she's basically left with nothing

Yeah like, reading the book after the show it's a bit difficult to adjust to how different Shae and their dynamic is. Tyrion in the show is so charming and charismatic that the showrunners really whitewashed him (which upset me because I KNOW based on the trial scene that Dinklage had the stuff to give us Tyrion's darker side). Shae is a sex worker, and Tyrion KNOWS their relationship is transactional despite having feelings for her. Under the circumstances I get how it looks, like girl the city is about to be attacked your jewels are not the priority! But it does suck that she is with him in exchange for these things and now to her mind he's taking her pay away. Like imagining that in any other job scenario I'd be upset too.

OH GIRL I hope I remember to bring this back up when you get to Dance, because your comment on Jon's connection to ghost feeling different is feeding a theory I have but you gotta get caught up to where we are in the Northern chapters before I can share my theoryyyyy EDIT OMG DOUBLE FOR VARYS but I have a feeling once you get into dance you might come to the very same theory as me about Varys. I know I'll remember to bring it up when we get there I'm so excited!

George doesn’t spam magic bc he likes the idea of magic always having a steep price. Opposed to Harry Potter or LOTR where some people can just wield magic as a primary weapon
