Greetings,

last week I rendered more images for the lewd scene which is pretty far now and I also started with the last big scene as I wanted a preview image from a different scene this week.

AI Animations

I did some experiments with AI animation as I've seen they came pretty good way along. And to be honest I like the results. They are not perfect yet but they add so much secondary motion and slight variations in motion that I wouldn't be able to do in a reasonable amount of time.

Example: [LINK TO ANIMATION]

At the moment there are some problems that I need to address which I think I can resolve.

One is the resolution. For the tests I used 720p but for the final renders I want 1080p. I need to check if my GPU can handle that.

Second is flickering. I think the big flashes I can manually edit out and for other jittering I have a plugin in AfterEffects which should help.

Anyway, the last time I've been messing around I said I wouldn't include AI content in the game. However, these animations are created from my render and don't change art style or characteristics of the character.

Even if I would include AI animations I still would add non-AI animations as well. Scenes where more changes are where AI wouldn't be consistent or won't be able to follow my vision for the scene/animation.

Question

What is your opinion on the AI animations? If I can improve the quality a bit more, should I use them or stick to the old animation-style?

I personally like the use of AI - as long as the creators don't use it to write. But I have seen a couple games use it beautifully for their images and/or scenes. However, I would also say if it is more efficient with time then sticking with the current is best as the game has been absolutely one of my favorites! (I just wish it was Ren'Py format which I find so much easier to use personally) Thank you for your time and efforts on this!

I agree that your sample looks good. My experience (from other devs) is that you will have to be prepared to waste some tokens. If you create 5 animations and 3 looks good, that is still two that you need to throw away. If you do that, and only keep the best, I'd say it is going to look better than many hand-made Daz animations. So keep a crtitical eye, and go for it!

The AI animation looks pretty decent to me

I think a Mix of AI Art and old School Art is a good Way to go..

I generally dislike AI animations since they pretty much taught them off stolen art that other people had done. They can look pretty fake also, with weird skin ripples and things. However, it's your project, if you ever plan to release it on Steam know that you must disclose the use of AI and many will avoid the game due to that. If you just want it to help render using your already created frames, I think there is other software, not using AI directly, that helps with that.

I'm glad you like it. Well the AI approach would probably be faster, as the iterative approach on posing a animation can take a few hours. I do like the renpy engine too, but I wanted to create my own framework and I tried to include most of the features from renpy that I liked. What features are you missing or what is troubling you with mine?

My workflow runs local on my pc, so I don't need tokens. I guess the others use grok or something. I went with WAN 2.2 and some loras for my tests.

I'm generally also not a fan of it as they often morphed weird. But those latest tests I think are decent. Have you looked at the linked clip? What is your opinion on that? Does it still look too weird for you? The thing with Steam is a good point. I haven't thought about that till now. But even if people skip that game because of that label, so be it. I won't be making a huge fuzz about it trying, to squeeze every penny out of it. Like I said, this is "just" a hobby project of mine and if the steam release brings in a few bucks, I'd be happy, but I'm not depending on it, or trying to force it. This would be too stressful for me for "just" a hobby. But thanks for reminding me of that. Good point. I did use other tools previously like frame-interpolition to up the fps of my animations. Or do you mean tools like Cascadeur? That's also a tool I want to have a look at when I have time for it. But I doubt it will work for adult animations.

I did look at the clip, and it looked decent overall. I have seen much worse, but that one was passable. Understand about Steam and mentally changing this project from hobby to something else, but glad the reminder was valuable.

Great! Then you can throw away as many as you need... :-)
