The SumitoMedia Profile Picture (Patreon)

A look at the profile pictures used for my social media over the years. First 3 images are by Yuki (@cobaltchordata on Twitter) and the final and current profile picture is by @@gilliebeartoe on twitter/instagram.

The first image is just a sketch Yuki made when I initially wanted a profile picture inspired by the art style of Futurama. The following profile pictures were the ones I used for many years that you guys probably know from either my YouTube channel or the many Internet Historian videos it was featured in.

It was just a stylized rendition of my hair and beard with a visor since I described my channel vibes and aesthetic as memes and gaming so Yuki took a cyberpunk approach and I think it turned out quite well.

Sometime last year @gilliebeartoe made some fanart for me and I really liked seeing my face in his art style so I asked him to make a profile picture akin to the "ahh, eto, bleh" anime meme. It only took about a week with a single alteration to the face before landing on the current iteration that is now my profile picture across all social media.

The new profile picture still keeps the visor as a homage to the OG one made by Yuki but has a more cartoonish look and whimsy that I think evokes more "comedy and memes" and less "gamer" which is what my YouTube channel has become over the years.

The two tone jacket was a style choice by Gillie inspired by the jacket worn by Spike from Cowboy Bebop and Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho. Many people have commented that it's the same color as the purple vest from the "Axel In Harlem" animation which wasn't part of the inspiration but who am I to tell people how to enjoy the art they see.
