Ikr, it takes something special to have this level of artistry. That's something I always admired about him, he is truly one of a kind inside and out. Also, I normally don't like these kind of docs since they tend to edit things in a way that makes things "interesting", so that we see certain members in a certain way but you are so right, something about this one seems so vulnerable and honest. Just some talented guys with a dream

"Do you want to go home after 6 years of training" -> You did hear this line from ZIP DAESUNG, it is also one of the most iconic BIGBANG memes that always gets referenced. This episode also showed the meme where GD was sulking about Hyunseung re-recording while Daesung was eating a banana at the background xD I also think this documentary feels a lot more raw compared to the ones we're used to seeing in recent years. It really felt as if YG just wanted to make this documentary to promote the group, but not overly embellish the trainees' background or push out unnecessary narratives. Honestly it's hard to say if back then GD and Taeyang even thought about taking things easy through the course of this documentary, they already have a contract but I doubt the terms would be that favorable for them as trainees (especially given that the trainee system wasn't as well-established as it is now) so they really might have believed that they'll be asked to pack up their bags if they fall short of expectations.

Yeah, I agree. There were groups that were rumored to debut but ended up getting pushed back or canceled altogether. They also probably saw plenty of talented trainees who never made it. On top of that, the trainee culture in Korea seemed to rely much more on criticism than validation or encouragement, so I doubt they ever felt secure. I remember reading that teenager GD would often end up in tears after song evaluations because of the harsh criticism from the other producers.

Late to the party as usual.... but I will catch up eventually! So happy that you're watching this! Regarding your comment on how much stiffer his shoulders were back then.... I truly believe that it's due to the teachers/trainers, trying to fit everyone into the same mold. He was being asked to imitate, instead of being original. Remember also at that time, they were trying to make the BigBang trainees dancing more sychronized. The final lineup was able to do it in practice, but when they hit the stage, that all went out the window later on! As for "This Love".... I am always amazed at how well it came out... especially considering that his health & vocals, were not at their best! There's actually a mashup on YT of GD's version & Adam Levine's. It's definitely worth watching!
