I don’t think you’re wrong about the training approach. A good trainer knows their student and tailors the training to the student’s level and how quickly they can absorb new material. And like you said, the ability to understand and learn choreo definitely compounds with time and experience. In this case, TOP, with zero dance background, had to learn the same choreo within the same time frame as GD/YB, who already had years of training. It’s unfair and an incredibly high-pressure environment. We can only be grateful that it worked out for the members. But there are definitely a lot of talented people who ended up discouraged, and their potential was wasted. That said, the staff do truly care about the members, even though they may not always approach training in the best way. Maybe the culture or the industry shaped them that way. Some of the staff are like family to the members. Jae Wook, the dance coach, has been with BigBang since he trained 13yo GD/YB back in 2001. He's been with Bigbang for over 20 years now. The members even call him the "6th member of BigBang."

TOP is known to be a very charismatic dancer and I've always thought he stood out in dancing. I think during the trainee days he was put into a group full of amazing dancers like GD and Taeyang, that he was just inexperienced and lacked the confidence. But he really has great rhythm, good in free styling and a natural dancer in my opinion.

I knew that you weren't dancing anymore, but never knew the reason. I once gave up something that was originally fun for a very similar reason. It's sad that the people teaching you things can either make it or break it... But I'm glad that you found something else you're passionate about, didn't know you were bouldering! Anyway, hearing you say that you thought it was surprising to see that goofy side of TOP was really funny to me. If I remember correctly, you've only seen him through a sit down kinda show, so his personality didn't shine through completely I feel. He is the craziest among them in my opinion haha, can't way for you to watch their funny content. When he decides to show that side of himself, you really sometimes ask yourself what's going on inside that mans head lol. In a good way.

I used to play piano for around 15-16 years, but later gave up because my piano tutor used to be exactly the same as that dance instructor. I feel like that's an Asian thing lol, people (especially the older generation) believe that kids thrive better when they are reprimanded ^^; But one good thing that came out of it is that I used whatever I learned from piano and managed to find my second passion aka percussion in symphonic band (: You definitely need to watch more interviews from the group because TOP is easily the weirdest (and funniest) person I've ever encountered, and that's not even an understatement... xD It's so cool that he also mentioned wanting to break the stereotype of the hiphop culture, because you could really see that in Doom Dada, and he is still trying to do that in his new album. It's always nice to rewatch this and realize how far he has come!
