In Joseon, butchers were people of the lowest social class, like slaves, because they killed animals to make money. Just as you thought, Dongmae went to Japan when he was young and then came back to Korea to live as a yakuza. Although Eugene and Dongmae had similar childhood experiences, it will be interesting to see what different choices they make in the story. Plus, Eugene can speak Japanese. When the yakuza dragged the interpreter away earlier, he spoke Japanese. I enjoyed your reactions so much!:)

The fact that even commoners who experienced discrimination themselves discriminated against butchers, who were considered even lower than them.. There was a hierarchy between countries, too. It was truly a difficult time for everyone in their own way.

The reason Yoo Jin executed Logan Tail was not only because it damaged America’s dignity, but also to use that pretext to justify sending American troops into Korea.

What you pointed out— it’s indeed entertaining to see how people in Joseon react to Eugene Choi, who was raised in a different culture and country. It’s satisfying in a way too🤣 As an interesting bit of cultural context, slavery during the Joseon Dynasty was a little different from slavery in the West. Eugene Choi’s parents and the couple serving Ae-shin were all slaves, but their lives could be very different depending on how their owners treated them. l really enjoyed your reaction😆

There is a saying, “남녀칠세부동석” (男女七歲不同席), which literally means that boys and girls should not even sit together once they reach the age of seven. It reflects the Confucian social norms of the Joseon era, when interactions and physical contact between men and women were strictly regulated. In such a society, Aeshin hides Dong-mae inside her palanquin. Considering that even simply sharing the same space with someone of the opposite sex was something to be avoided, allowing Dong-mae—a man, and moreover a butcher from the lowest social class—into her own palanquin was an extraordinarily bold act in itself. But the scene does not end there. Dong-mae is actually holding onto the hem of Aeshin’s skirt. Given the social norms surrounding relations between men and women at the time, such close physical contact between a man and a woman would have been almost unimaginable.

Hi Korea-Khitan War darma reaction please 🙏

Angela🧣🗝️

the 2 japanese men that dongmae killed in front of aeshin were basically talking about how when Japanese men assault Joseon women the women end up killing themselves after & how it's very convenient for them. they were saying that while looking at aeshin as well... Eugene is speaking in japanese when he has the interaction with the Musin Society on the bridge where he shows off his gun which is why they both understood each other. the interpreter doesn't know japanese tho. only English & Korean the scene where Eugene is standing by the boat and Aeshin appears.. she's trying to say hes been following her but hes basically saying how ridiculous that sounds because clearly she came after & is behind him
