Fun fact: Eren was nominated for both Best Protagonist and Best Antagonist at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. And yeah, he won Best Antagonist 😂 I mean, killing 80% of humanity definitely makes a pretty good antagonist. It’s been such a long ride, Aaron. Thank you so much for watching Attack on Titan. 🫡🤝

Now that you have finished, I really urge you to watch this one video on youtube which will put everything you may have missed while watching AOT for the 1st time into perspective. It was originally created as a response/explanation video soon after the final episode of AOT was released and the entire fandom quite literally dogged on the conclusion of the story. I think this guy contributed a lot to the fandom's general understanding of the plot and workings of the Attack Titan's ability. Here are my comments about this episode: 1) The one you are curious about was actually Armin and not Historia; he is the storyteller in this anime but not in the manga. Since Armin and the narrator share the same VA, they widely considered that he was the one who narrated the story of AOT. Armin also explicitly states at the end of the series that he wants to retell their entire story to the rest of the world. 2) Eren made an alternate life in the "path" where he can talk to his friends while forgetting the sad reality. He wanted to make up for the missed happy moments with them and to make amends for what was going to happen. He made them forget that moment because he wanted their anger to remain, ultimately driving them to kill him. 3) Eren made an alternate life with Armin when he was talking to Annie, where he could talk to him and let him know what was really happening inside his mind and the future he saw way back then. It's an alternate life where they grow up together like a normal person while spending time with his dearest friend and sharing his burden. After Eren’s death, his memory returned, and he remembered that he had been talking to Eren. That’s why there was a scene where he was standing next to Annie, looking stunned. 4) Eren created a special alternate life with Mikasa to show her the life they could have had if, after Mikasa confessed her feelings, they had decided to run away together and live a normal life for four beautiful years—the remaining years of Eren’s life as a Titan. He wanted to give her the closure they never had in reality. That’s why, during their fourth year together, Eren asked Mikasa to let go of him, forget about him, throw away his scarf, and move on with her life. However, Mikasa is an Ackerman, so her memories could not be erased. She refused to throw away Eren’s scarf and instead used it when she killed him to show him she still loves him. 5) Eren kept his eyes closed during the Rumbling because he knew there was no way out. But when Mikasa finally came to kill him, he opened his eyes one last time because he wanted to see her in his final moments. 6) Ymir was consumed by her love for the king, which is why, even after her death, she remained bound to him and continued following that path. That’s why she smiled when Mikasa killed Eren: Mikasa showed her that she had a choice—that it was possible to let go and overcome an obsessive love. Finally, inspired by Mikasa’s choice, Ymir was able to let go as well and erase the power of the Titans from the world. 7) Both VA of Eren and Mikasa sang the song in the scene where Mikasa was sitting next to Eren's grave. 8) In the closing credits, you can see Mikasa died at an old age while wearing Eren's scarf, and she was buried next to Eren. 9) During the AOT 10th Anniversary, Mikasa’s VA was crying as she talked about sending Eren off by saying, “I’ll see you later, Eren.” But what she truly wanted was not to say goodbye to Eren—it was to welcome him home. So, she asked Eren’s VA if he could say “I’m home” instead, creating a moment in which, in her own imagined world, Eren was still alive and she could welcome him home. Eren’s VA then said, “Mikasa, I’m home,” and Mikasa’s VA tearfully replied, “Welcome home.” Thank you, Aaron, for these wonderful reactions. I was crying the entire time I was typing this because I know this will be the last time I write comments about this anime. Eren may not be your and other viewers' favorite character in this anime, but he is my favorite. Yes, he is not a good person, but that is his future. Finally, we're done with AOT.
