It’s like a chess game but an unfair one from the start. There’s no doubt that both of them are incredibly smart, but Light has huge advantages: he has the Death Note, can even manipulate a Shinigami into working in his favor, and has access to internal info through his dad.
 L, on the other hand, has to rely on his intuition and deduction skills. No matter how convinced he is that Light is Kira, he still has to work within the human legal system and find hard evidence without crossing certain lines. It’s subtle, but he can’t keep surveillance cameras in Light’s house for too long without finding hard evidence before people start questioning it. If he didn’t have those constraints, even something as simple as keeping the cameras there longer could have taken away Light’s leverage. Like the hidden TV in the potato chip bag is really only a temporary solution, Light can’t keep using the same tactic for long. For the same reason, L always states a low probability of Light being Kira, no matter how strongly he actually suspects him, because he doesn’t have hard proof.
 But it’s fun to see how that pushes L to take more aggressive measures. Light is so good at reading people and predicting their behavior that regular measures simply aren’t going to crack him. L has to make unpredictable moves and confront him directly to throw him off his game. My dude really went full attack mode with the “I’m L” and “I suspect you are Kira” lines. Love your reactions as always! (And you’re not the only one confusing their names. I mistyped their names so many times while writing this comment lol.)
