Going back and rewatching it along with you has cemented my appreciation for Stardust Crusaders as a story. A lot of people, especially young newer fans have a disdain for this part for some reason, maybe they can't relate to Jotaro since he's such a badass, or the pacing is too painful for them. Though now, upon rewatch, I appreciate what it's doing, its villain of the week type of storytelling allows us to bond so much more with the characters, and makes us so engaged when any of the Crusaders is stuck in a pinch. Maybe I'm just a journey over destination type of guy, but this part of JoJo's is one I'll always look back fondly upon because it actually feels like an ADVENTURE. Fortunately, the parts coming next are just as good in their own ways, I'm excited to see you continue this series, fun reaction as always!

I apologize in advance for the gigantic comment 😔 Just wanted to say that you're my favorite anime reacting channel. Your level of attention to detail is really one of a kind. I'm bizarrely(no pun intended) hiperfocused on jojo for years. And noticing the "maxim" banner on the ending is genuine crazy attention. We really can feel how much you're enjoying this anime just based on that lol. And even i never thought of the connection between the 5 dead flies and the 5 starts before. Crazy stuff. Anubis is an very interesting stand. In my understanding. Anubis was like strength or wheel of fortune. A stand connected/bound to an object. Originally with the ability to enhance it's user's strength, speed. With an crazy "adaptability" bonus. But for some reason, when the user died, the stand remained. Dio was looking for stand users as we see in episode 3 on avdol's flashback. And had already some experience with mystical objects. With the mask and that one other item we can't tell you yet. So i would guess he just heard one of those popular haunted stories about a haunted sword and went to check it out. When we see the 9 figures leaving Dio's place. I'm pretty sure you can see one of them holding a sword. So anubis traveled all this way by jumping from user to user until getting into Chaka's hands. One of my favorite stands and fights of the series fs. Love the design too. Even tho it's not original, seeing Anubis on Araki's artstyle is dope af. And no, anubis isn't an necessarily evil figure in the Egyptian mythology. He's more like hades or Hela. An more neutral way of looking at death. Instead of associating it with evilness like we tend to yk.

I always loved the Egyptian mythology and Anubis is undoubtedly cool so I'm a big fan of these episodes. Also always tough when the characters have to fight someone who is essentially an innocent victim in the crosshairs.

Pendro

It's just my least favorite part because of the format and what it has to offer in that regard. It's still jojo so it manages to differentiate itself despite there being little to engage yourself in. You could argue that the characters carry that engagement but that's true for every jojo part. It feels more like a standard shounen than any other part does so it kind of just brings less to the table while being the longest. I'm going to keep it vague for people who haven't seen the rest. There just isn't much substance in the story itself, Araki's big strength just happens to be how he presents that story.

Honestly, watching these episodes makes me wanna learn more about it myself! Agreed - seems like this Part is involving far more innocent people than previous ones

Otaku Steph

AHHH this is so incredibly sweet of you to say, thanks so much Gabriel!! Let's me know that I'm doing something right and makes me v happy to know y'all are enjoying my yapping HAHA. Also, ooo I wouldn't have made the connection to Wheel of Fortune. Thank you for clarifying the context on Anubis and how he's depicted in Egyptian mythology. Frickin' LOVEDDD his design oml

Absolute PEAK anime! I can deffo understand other's POV in terms of pacing, but they're also likely used to having an overarching villain instead of Jojo's that rotates so often. I am also enjoying the journey itself rather and getting to know our Crusaders and can also understand people easily comparing this Part to the other ones that have released! On that note, I'd like to create a tier list once I'm fully caught up on Jojo's, and see how much of it resonates with you guys!

ArFanik

great idea on the tier list, because we know how you felt about Parts 1 and 2 as you were done with them, but it'd be interesting to know in retrospect after having watched all the other parts currently out.

I don't understand some of the points brought up above, especially those coming from Pendro, but I can't detail as to why since it would spoil some stuff unfortunately. I'll just say that it isn't so much that part 3 is more shonen than the other parts, it's that this is the part that contributed to bringing modern shonen to begin with, which is something people tend to forget. Jojo is an old manga, this part started being released in 89. As for this part's MC, Jotaro is an archetype that Araki plays with without ever going full on parody, obviously as an hommage to Clint Eastwood and Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken. Jotaro as the silent main character is the perfect development for this part in comparison to the previous one as the extroverted loud Joseph. Like other badass characters, they are not there to be identified to but to be admired. Ofc Jotaro being a homage in the context of this absurd show, it's more about sheer entertainment than admiration or identification. This to say that people who dislike Jotaro because of not being able to identify miss the point. People seem to dislike that the episodes don't necessarily advance the plot much more than just closing the distance between them and their destination, and that they are more self-contained I guess. Especially right after coming from part 2 where that was not the case. It was definitely my main issue with it when I first watched, I was a little bit disappointed at first when I understood it would have a villain of the week format, but once I got over that and noticed that it didn't inherit the usual issues of this format (repetitive, used to stretch out a show by pumping out filler), part 3 quickly became my favorite. The reason it doesn't inherit the usual issues with this format is that this part's structure is also a homage in itself. The show is self aware and toys with the usual tropes associated with this "villain of the week" structure. Without spoiling I'd also like to add that the comedy here hits the best and the characters have the best chemistry imho. The equilibrium between the various themes of this part (travel, horror, comedy, fights, lore) is also simply the best. Yes part 3's story is simpler, but in terms of storytelling it is the wittiest and best crafted of the bunch. Future parts definitely have their own strengths, but unlike part 3 they also have critical flaws.
