Yes!!! It's one of my least favorite things in the Attack on Titan fandom, when people hate on Gabi. She was literally just defending her hometown from an invading force that just murdered her friends. Not to mention just being a kid, and a lifetime of indoctrination. And they miss the point, because its all about the parallels between her and Eren.

laughing/humor is a defense mechanism and in psychology its called an incongruent affect when a persons physical emotional response logically contradicts the actual emotion being expressed. its why its not uncommon for people to laugh at a funeral. you can also think of it as a 'nervous smile' like when you're nervous/unconfident so you smile or 'laugh it off' to ease tension.

Gabi's argument with Falco was always weird, and it felt like it was a bit of a strawman to prevent people from becoming a little too disillusioned with "the new Eldia empire" or too empathetic to the Marleyan Eldians. I always thought her argument should be a lot simpler and also appeal to Gabi's feeling of righteousness: "this isn't about getting 'revenge' for something that happened half a dozen years ago; the terrorists who attacked us are RIGHT THERE, the attack has been over for all of 40 seconds, and we don't know if they plan on doing something like this again, or how." Making it about who "started it" or whatever feels like a deliberate dodge of the point. Gabi is smarter than that, and this kind of feels like a dumbing down of her.

Jeanne's Thunder Spear, we'll never really know for sure. Viewing it objectively the steam from cart titan definitely cause the spear to miss. But Jeanne did hesitate a little bit before firing. So you could make a point that if Jeanne didn't hesitate for that split second, the spear might have hit the cart before the steam come out. So in the end, you'll never know for sure. Maybe even if he didn't hesitated , the spear might not have made it anyway. I think the reason Jeanne think that is because he definitely know that he himself did hesitate to kill Falco for that split second.

You also have to remember she is 12 years old. It's like Reiner, Bert, and Annie how people tend to forget they were babies when they attacked the wall. She goes more off emotion than pure logic. I feel like it's easy to armchair Gabi and be like "wow thats a really silly way to look at things how don't you realize whats going on" when her developmental brain has been completely pumped with the rhetoric from the environment shes grown up in. People expect her to act like an adult when she isn't even a teenager.

Fun fact: Sasha was supposed to die in she 1v1 with the Titan at her home town. After writting it one of his coworkers (I think) was so utterly distraught and depressed because Sasha was his favorite character. He later rewrote it so she would last longer just because of him. Very interesting story though I’m sad he ultimately decided she still must die

I agree that Jean was gonna kill Falco but he definitely hesitated. Thats why he missed i think. Jean may have learned back then never to hesitate but the rules change when you're pointing a rocket at a child.

Reiner's Titan is malformed because he doesn't really have the will to live. So the appearance of his Titan is reflecting his deep emotional state in a sense. Just like Eren's Titan now looks a little more, if I dare say, menacing. Also in order for Falco to take Reiner's powers Falco would have to be injected with Pure Titan spinal fluid. He'd have to turn into a Pure Titan in order to eat Reiner and take his power. Even then he wouldn't be able to fight at that moment because the first transformation leaves new holders of Titan powers weakened and sometimes with temporary memory loss. P.S. The airship is a Marleyean airship. Also yes, Eren clearly acted on his own and dragged the Scouts in to rescue him.

1:05:44 I think it's just a product of changing animation studios. That being said, the way MAPPA portrays Eren's titan form as more demonic really goes well with where we're at in the story.

I think an often overlooked part of episode 4x7 is the death of Pieck’s squad and I love that you mention the pictures inside Carlo’s turret. Pieck herself said that she is in her Titan form for very long periods of time so she and her squad are together for months on end for missions, so they all must have at the very least a very familiar bond with one another. Hearing them call out for Pieck to save them as she probably has many times in the past while she herself is helpless and also burning is so heartbreaking and does such a good job at humanizing such minor characters and characters who are supposed to be the “enemy” to our main cast.

Manipulative, full of herself with 0 humlity, completely fallen for Marleyan propaganda, eccentric without the charisma to back up this eccentricity (the only thing that sort of helps her eccentric personality is her skill and talent but tbh that is not enough to excuse her behaviour imo)... so there is a lot... 😅😅😅

That was such a powerful moment with Gabi telling Falco that she wasn't there when the walls were attacked. It wasn't the civilians in the internment zone who attacked the walls, so she feels like they shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of their government. Goes to show also how powerful Marley's propaganda is that she doesn't apply this form of thinking to the stories the government espouse about the history of the Eldian people etc etc (also she's a child lmao). There's a line of thinking that violent occupation/invasion must be resisted with violence in return for the resistance to succeed. However when civilians are being involved in this violence it really gets muddy. Insane start to a season.

TBF Floch is a huge asshole but hes NOT wrong though. Almost none of the outside world would be willing to let the Island live in peace. Hizuru may not have been outright aggressive, but thats one nation and likely not a large one if it is meant to be a stand in for Japan. The rest of the world hates Eldians even more than Marleyans do, and Willys speech still would have happened.

The real point of this anime is to show how cruel this word is. There`s no bad guys,no evil bastards,just people who act upon they`re instincts. Reiner and Eren the same,Gabi and Eren the same.Eren is not a villian,Reiner is not a villian,they`re just people.People who is acting during circumstances,you can easily shift this to our world.Huge difference is that in our world there are villians - bunch of insane people ruling our world.Those who starts war out of profit,those who brainwash others in order to create reason for things to happen. Fair question is - when we are will be free? I think we won`t be free ever,the most cruel thing is - we won`t even know about this.That for our whole life we`ve been just a slaves.

I think the best way to put it for me is that I am an avid Eren supporter, but more so in the same sense as how the main cast like Mikasa, Armin are supporters of him, not quite like how floch is if you know what I mean 🪾👀
