Mr Benito Mussolini. Should he be in an ERB, or should he not? We've wrestled with that question for a while now. And honestly, we're still not sure. He feels like a perfect character for Lloyd to portray. But, do we NEED him in an ERB? The jury is still out on that one.

That's why he was selected for a round of Most Wanted in the first place. We received 50+ suggestions from you folk for potential opponents. We had to narrow it down to a final five options and we've now done so. Thank you to everyone who chipped in with ideas!

Here they all are: (in no particular order)

1) Saddam Hussein: everyone's favourite 90's villain with an alleged taste for weapons of mass destruction. It'd be a battle of two of the biggest heels of history for sure.

2) Hannibal Barca: the Carthaginian general who's known for being the greatest military tactician in history and for his clashes against the Romans; especially on elephants.

3) Rocky Balboa: the self proclaimed Italian Stallion boxing hero who took down a doped up Russian and who'd now be going toe to toe with an Italian fascist beefcake in the ERB ring

4) Emperor Nero: the much maligned Roman Emperor possibly known best for his fiddling whilst Rome burned, but beyond that unlikely tale the guy is all kinds of crazy for sure.

5) Chairman Mao: otherwise known as Mao Zedong the Chinese communist who is noted for his fond love for causing millions of deaths. Like Benito, not one to take home to mother.

Please vote for your favorite and let us know in the comments any other thoughts you have about Mussolini and/or the potential opponents.

Remember - just because an opponent wins a poll doesn't mean that's the only character we'd put in an ERB with Mussolini. These polls are about exploring what's out there and getting opinions. Not to try to make any final decision on who a character should face.

Sometime soon we'll upload this same poll over on the YouTube community page to see what the wider fan-base think. But, we wanna see what patrons think first. :)

Save Rocky for a battle against someone like Mike Tyson ;)

Oh, this is a tough one. All interesting choices, for VERY different reasons. Nero especially intrigues me.

Fred Hicks (President, Evil Hat)

Hoping Nero comes from behind on this one — a home-grown Italian dictator, the right fit. Saddam feels like a bit of an also-ran (and more of an American invention), but is inexplicably on top right now.

Anyone know that old comedy song “The Ultimate Showdown?” In which a bunch of random characters of fiction and history get in a bloody battle-royale? ERB has a surprising amount of matchups and cameos from characters mentioned in that song. Noticed it early on like Vader, Abe Lincoln, Chuck Norris, Hulk Hogan, Gandalf, Mr Rogers, etc. Even Bill and Ted made it later on, despite being highly unknown (at the time) by the general audience. As far as I’m concerned, if it’s mentioned in Ultimate Showdown, it should also be in ERB, and Benito Musollini was! So he must happen! I look forward to the day when ERB has referenced all the fighters of the Ultimate Showdown! 👍

I think Mao is the best foil to Mussolini. They're both crazy autocrats, giving them a connection, but their different countries of origin and different brands of insanity offer lots of material for contrasting them. Saddam Hussein also fits the bill, but Saddam wasn't nearly as colorful as Mao--when you get down to it, he was just another tinpot dictator.

List of characters who were shown in the Ultimate Showdown, but have not yet been in ERB: Godzilla, Shaquille O'Neal, Aaron Carter, Optimus Prime, Jackie Chan, Indiana Jones, the Care Bears, Monty Python's Black Knight, Blue Meanie, Cowboy Curtis, Jambi, Lo Pan, the Power Rangers, the Rock, and Dr. Octopus. (And if we're counting people in the background, Samuel L. Jackson, the guy from Arrested Development, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, and the Jawas.)

Eduard van den Heever

I know this isn't where I should say this, but I still hope people see it. Please: William the Conquerer vs Mehmed the Conquerer.

Alvin Franco

I know there was an animation, but I was only thinking of the song itself. Nice pull! Knock Jawas off the list since they were shown in Luke Skywalker vs Harry Potter! Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie would be easy to knock out as background cameos or references if Burton-Zaki happens, since Tim Burton directed PeeWee Herman movie. 🤷🏻‍♂️ And Godzilla/King/Kong has been highly discussed!

I'll just put this here since talking about it on the Discord seems to upset people: Saddam Hussein vs Benito Mussolini seems to be a battle that is impossible to make without making people uncomfortable. A lot of people are deeply uncomfortable with the idea of either one of them coming off as "cool" in this battle given the fact that they were both real people with millions of real supporters. Some have suggested that the battle should then end with both of them being killed, but that makes other people deeply uncomfortable. If this battle were to be made, these conversations would continue, and they do not seem to be conversations that people want to have. I was trying my best to keep the conversation respectful, and it simply was not happening. Everyone's ideas on how the battle should go made people angry at each other. It's not a fun idea, and there's no way to make it fun.

I went with Hannibal, it's grown on me but despite it seeming to bore Peter, Nero still remains to seem like the crowd pleaser from what I've seen

Ivan Lima

I suggested before and I'll do it again Benito Mussolini vs Benito Juarez

Shawn Ravenfire

I can see your point. A Mussolini battle could work if they did it similarly to the way they treated Hitler and Stalin, since enough time has passed that there's a disconnect. (The whole "comedy is tragedy plus time" thing.) Hussein is more recent, but has managed to become a pop culture punch line for a while (Hot Shots, the Big Lebowski, South Park). But yeah, I see your point that putting them against each other might make one seem "better" than the other. I'd say that the only way to really make it work is if a third person came in and pwned both of them, like Sauron or Palpatine.

That was a big point of contention on the Discord. Someone suggested they could both die at the end in the dramatic ways they did in real life, which I thought was a reasonable idea but other people found that too sadistic and disturbing. If there's a way to do it that eliminates this concern I have and makes it explicitly clear that neither of these two dudes nor what they represent are good, I'll accept the idea. I just don't know if it's possible to do that in an entertaining way.

Shawn Ravenfire

I wouldn't consider it too disturbing to kill them both off. They did kill off Romeo&Juliet/Bonnie&Clyde at the end of that battle, and Vader did slice Hitler in half.

James Seeley

Vader vs hitler ,bring it haters lmfao

Kelley M Wesley

I would love to see Al Bundy in an erb, Archie Bunker a natural choice but someone like Tom Brady would be funnier

Kelley M Wesley

Oh and I love the idea of Mussolini against one of these guys but against the Pope is hilarious to me, I definitely would like Pope Francis vs. someone, maybe vs. Madonna I find that pretty funny

Fusionater

Please don’t waste Barca on Mussolini.
