Over on the ERB Discord server a long term patron and all round top fella called FoxDoc has been organising a series of polls to narrow down a list of potential characters that the Discord members would love to see in a future ERB.

From an original list of 127 characters (both historical and fictional) they have narrowed them down to a set of eight. We thought it'd be cool to take this group of eight and see what all our patrons think of the options in order to widen the scope of the poll.

You can vote for just one character. Deadline for voting is Friday 8th December at 5pm PT.

The characters that receive the highest number of votes in this Patreon poll will then go on to a final poll on our YouTube community page for the wider fanbase to vote on.

This is all just a bit of fun. But, polls have been strong indicators in the past which we have sometimes used to help focus in on choosing characters for future ERB's.

So, choose who you vote for wisely. :)

Thanks again to FoxDoc for organising the Discord polls. Top work dude.

Teknically

Spider-Man has to be done before this series ends. He HAS to.

Shane

This is like the hardest choice I’ve had to make in a while

Smik

I think Lovecraft would be an excellent choice as he'd provide a LOT of material for both sides.

PaperAlchemist

Dying to see HP Lovecraft in a battle one day!

Rezier

Would love to see what u guys do for JFK!!+

Glen Dorland

Other characters might be bigger in name, but Jigsaw is 100% worthy of an ERB and a great pick for the series.

Toney Ward

Jigsaw vs Kevin from Home Alone. IT MUST BE DONE!

Bubonic

Medusa vs King Midas. Another Mythology Matchup

Tony s

Other characters might be bigger in name, but Jigsaw is 100% worthy of an ERB and a great pick for the series.

NoteBard

Never in my life did I think I'd have to choose between Oda Nobunaga and Spider-Man

James Seeley

Hitler vs Vader or i cut you off lmfao

Bret Ceren

Ugh. Jigsaw vs HP Lovecraft is basically Stephen King vs Edgar Allan Poe redux. Spider Man hasn't been done, but against who? JFK, Margaret Thatcher and Van Gogh would all be good ones. Maybe JFK vs Lee Harvey Oswald? Margaret Thatcher vs Katniss Everdeen? Van Gogh vs AI Generated Art?

Bret Ceren

Good one. Stone on sight vs gold on touch.

Bubonic

I know right! And the final scene would be them turning each other to stone and gold.

Shawn Ravenfire

Hercules pretty much has to show up at some point, but who to go up against? Maybe Gilgamesh or Cuchulainn or Beowulf?

Shawn Ravenfire

The hard part with Spider-Man would be finding a worthy opponent for him. Maybe Anansi?

Dylan

I for one quite like Hercules vs Sun WuKong

Foxdoc

I look forward to seeing how things shake out! ^_^

Duplighost

Gotta be Spider-Man vs Invincible!

Homokóra

Go, Jigsaw! Come on, guys, give Johnny boy a chance here! ✊️

Max Hall

Uncle Ben, like the rice company version of Uncle Ben.

Charles Lee

I have to choose between Spidey and Van Gogh -- those two were choices of two battles I've suggested. This is so not fair.

Charles Lee

I've personally suggested Spider-Man vs Invincible

Charles Lee

Spider-Man vs Invincible

Charles Lee

A perfectly cromulent choice.

Charles Lee

maybe Jigsaw against the Riddler?

Kiernimbus

Vincent is a long shot, but I feel there's a lot you could do with him. Fingers crossed 🤞

Daan Vermeulen

Never thought i would like it, but now i wanna see it

Mr_Bottomtooth

I would really like to see Oda Nobunaga so we finally have the first Japanese character in all of ERB. Now you could argue that Ash Ketchum is "kind of Japanese", but he is fictional, so it doesn't really count for me. :) As for opponent to him: Maybe another civil-war conqueror who united a nation (as Nobunaga did in 16th century Japan) or someone who simply united a nation that was in shards (maybe Mustafa Kemal Atatürk after WW1).

Mr_Bottomtooth

Kennedy vs. Oswald would be TOO obvious imho and ERB hardly ever did those hyper-obvious battles before (which is a good thing :) ). Kennedy vs. some other leader who had been assassinated would be a better choice – maybe Park Chung-hee, the South Korean president that was assassinated in 1979, which also would mark the first South Korean contender in ERB. :)

Mr_Bottomtooth

Semi-serious suggestion: Hercules (12 labors of Hercules) vs. William Griffith Wilson (founder of Alcoholics Anonymous with their famous 12-step program). :P

Foxdoc

I agree! And it was tough just getting it down this far! There were a LOT of fantastic characters in the initial running on Discord. With each bracket we ended up saying goodbye to titans of history, keystones of culture, myths and modern legends alike. I think these eight really capture a lot of that epic essence!

Foxdoc

Oda Nobunaga, seated in the halls of Azuchi Castle, pounding his mighty fist on the mat in front of him: "Get me portraits of Spider-Man!"

Foxdoc

It's a tough one for sure!

Foxdoc

I agree, it would be great to see at least one snapshot of the history of Japan in ERB. I personally love Nobunaga vs Charlemagne, but Nobunaga is an extremely versatile figure who could find beef with just about anyone I think. This poll is chock full of versatile characters rich in material, though, so I find it tough to choose!

Foxdoc

Anansi would be an interesting niche, and I love interesting niches :) I enjoy a lot of Spider-Man matchups, particularly the ones where his opponent can act as a foil to his core values of responsibility and heroism!

Foxdoc

Hercules has a lot of good potential! Simple in design and yet oddly versatile. Like duct tape.

KC Schlueter

I genuinely think Spider-Man vs Invincible is a fantastic battle idea. Spider-Man is the last major superhero that must be done before the end of ERB. Iron Man and Captain America as well.

Alvin Franco

King Kamehameha united all of the Hawaiian islands under a single kingdom! Pretty incredible feat, while relatively primitive, and with so much ocean in between them all… Theres been no Hawaiian representation yet. Your 50th state could use a little love over here! 😜 I dunno how many people care about Hawaiian history, but I live in Hawaii and will vouch that King Kamehameha is an incredible character. His name is very well renowned, even if only because of Dragon Ball Z! 😜 He’s on the State Quarter and his statue is in the capital building. The beginning of a huge Monarchy, which has since been absorbed into the United States. Against Oda Nobunaga, there’s a lot of very noteable history between Hawai’i and Japan that could be drawn from. Hawai’i now has a massive percentage of Japanese residents, land owners, and tourists… both are island nations …Pearl Harbor bombing, etc… Their names even match well! Same syllable count (6) rhyming last syllable: O-da-No-bu-na-ga King-Ka-me-ha-me-ha That’s my pitch 🤙

Alvin Franco

Spider-Man vs H.P. Lovecraft! 😜 Lovecraft going on about all kinds of scary cosmic horror shit. Spidey retorts with MULTIVERSE knowledge and the terrors of straight up erasing himself from his own reality. I’m sure Lovecraft would put on a decent round 2, but Peter Parker would then tag in Miles Morales and spook his racist ass right outta the battle.

Charles Lee

I felt that a Lovecraft vs Rod Serling (Twilight Zone) battle would work

Charles Lee

Doctor Strange would be a better challenger for Lovecraft, in my opinion.
