I'm one of the haters of this movie cause the original is so classic and wholesome and then this one is so weird and freakish and not wholesome. Jim does do a great job though, the other who stuff is just hard to look past. Also Martha Who is for the STREETS

I love this movie,I quote it and watch it every year,my most fav xmas movie and made most memes,this is my fav version of the grinch,Jim Carrey himself carries the whole movie,I used to rewind my fav scenes over and over again,it’s the funniest xmas movie ever and 2nd to Home Alone 2,I remember they show deleted scenes on TV that I didn’t know about

Spot on about this being a background movie while baking cookies. Jim's the best part definitely. I think a big thing about this film's reception is that the adults who took their kids to see this back in 2000 (my parents for example), watched the 60s cartoon when they were kids and grew up having the book read to them by their parents (my grandparents). So I think they expected something more suessy, and less Jim Carrey (as good as he was), and were just disappointed. The whole backstory and side characters may have been too much for them. Not to mention that cartoon was the only adaptation for 34 years, so people were used to it and were set on thinking that is the definitive grinch.

I never picked up on his voice being Connery, but that makes a lot of sense. I also feel like his mannerisms and general attitude is at least partly based on Dick Solomon from 3rd Rock From the Sun

Yeah this movie is like a 4/10 but Jim bumps it up to a 6-7. I was always the odd one out in my family for not being as crazy about it.
