Okay, sorry to ramble and necro post, but I've been going through sketches this morning, looking for the character design shifts post Little Willy. While you did other similar ones before, this sketch is the one where the current version of the characters first appears for me. There's the sketch of a larger Willy and a less bulky Cody starting in February, then into March, but April 2024--this picture here--is where I see the real size difference. It makes me think that Willy was younger than we realized in the series--which would make sense, as he's a prodigy, going to college at 17 or even 16. And we know that Cody is 18, thanks to his girlfriend who he was in school with having just gone to college. We also know that Willy was on Diazepam, which causes muscle weakness. This explains him hiring Cody and also, after he got off it, why he was both interested in (obsessed with maybe?) getting bulkier. That plus a late-teens, early-twenties growth spurt means that Willy's 'twink death' ended up being more of a 'stud birth'. It matches really well with Willy topping Cody after Cody gave some really strong signals in the March 2024 sketches also. The May/June/July work feeling out Will's body is just more development, culminating with the Big Will post in December having settled mostly on size and bulk, with the final, sculpted version showing up in Feb 2026. That subway picture is... ugh. He looks spectacular. This, though, is ALSO where we see Cody first growing his hair out more. (There are arguably hints in the background version of the July 2024 BBQ sketch. At the very least, I'm going to assume that it might have already been looming in the imagination. ;) Same for the July pose with Cody sitting next to the Olympian Version of Willy.) I'm honestly way more fascinated by his change, in part because it mirrors my own more. His discovery that subbing is his preferred position feels like it comes naturally enough with William's growth (especially since we get the little sketches of Cody subbing for him in March 2024, though that's a bulky Cody and a still-developing Will). After this picture, we get to see a slimmer Cody in Will's arms in Jan 2025, followed by the Febrary 2025 sketch with Cody over Willy's shoulder and the Polaroid sketch--both sporting the wavy hair we see now. The first real look we get at properly feminine Cody is in Oct 2025, where we get the wavy hair and slimmer body in Willy's lap without knowing for sure it's Cody yet (he's not even tagged!). The Feb 2026 addition of the braid completes the look perfectly. The discussion on the recent animatic tests got me thinking about all this and made me really want to track it. It's a Cody that's fully comfortable in a submissive role and a feminine body, and a Will that's completely at home in the dominant position and more masculine shape. The switch wasn't sudden, though, and I think I've sketched the whole development of it. As an idea for the future, it would be great to see your thought process over a whole character design cycle like this. Don't think I haven't done this with the oldest sketches of Chubby Roshim and Kobold Avalon as well. ;) Though, admittedly, that was because I was going through sketches to track the development of Roshim's horns because I have a theory that you're using them to show the passage of time, and it's fun to look at a sketch and find out when it is (assuming that you've not added a color filter over it, which makes it more obvious when it's happening, haha). Unrelated, but: I'm already doing a headcanon for myself that the owner of the Del Rey Cafe is actually Cody's ex-girlfriend. ;)
