UV Map to Sewing Pattern Notes (Flynn) (Patreon)
Content
Plush planning for someone's fave. Flynn from the Skylanders series. I love his lil smirk. Color blocking layout and layering. Small details are intended to be appliques. (Pockets, small stripes, belt buckle etc. I can't digitize them but I can make the template for 'em ot be digitized.
Some notes about UV mapping vs Sewing patterning that you need to take into consideration:
For Example:
Sometimes for things like the hands, it's easier to just draw/sew the silhoutte to get the right shape.#2 in the image below is the UV map of the actual 3D hand's UV Mapbut this design may be needlesely complicated, and sew together weirdly. If we just cut and sew the default map (#2) the fingers are all splayed so it'll look like he got stung by a bee because of 3D UV Mapping Shenanigans account for a lot more stretch in 360 degrees and patterns/fabric are just like. a 2D plane. Way less weird fish-eye-like stretch happening
So just going by the silhoutte is much easier.
So you can't always rely entirely on a 3D mesh or you may get unexpected results. You do need to think about how things will look when stuffed, and how it should look when laid out as a pattern piece based one xisting patterns you've sewn. Unless you want to do crazy stuff. I'm too lazy for that tho.
