I never really posted many of my 3D works anywhere, here's one of my MMD 3D model works that isn't seen in my other MMD related 3D model post I was going to include other models but it's become just documentation on one particular commissioned model instead for now!

I've grabbed all of the work in progress bits I sent to the customer I can bother to get that documented the process of this model.

This is someone's UTAU and OC and they commissioned a Miku Miku Dance model from me in early 2018. I don't normally do models on commission but I had been wanting to make at least one pretty decent MMD model so I decided to take on the project.

Outfit reference:

I did use a body mesh I had started and a head mesh I created. But did heavy editing of faces and topology in spaces to get a good UV map layout and stuff.

Getting the hair right was a difficult process as what they wanted and what their reference image showed to me were drastically different regarding the hairline and bangs. This was my initial go at it. Replicating their chosen and preferred reference image.

The reference was interpreted by me as peaked bangs a bit like Link's or Edward Elric's.

They wanted more of a scene/emo look. The following attempts were made using  the early (newly released at the time) vroid software which has a very efficient and intuitive hair layering and creation process. With the drawback of not being especially edit friendly as the result, when exported, into triangulated faces and a boatload of points that do not lend themselves to efficient fine tuning or mass editing by any means. So essentially what I got out of vroid is what I had to work with with only a bit of scaling and editing.

Hair is extremely time consuming to do by hand via point modeling and very fast in vroid but somewhat limiting on the polygon control. But it saved me hours and hours of work doing the bangs over and over again point by point.

Clothing before UV mapping and textures.

Body textures test render for critique.

"Toon" files for .PMD .PMX models, that specify how shadows are cast and what color/tint etc they are.

Sphere maps for highlights and such. These are all ones I made while experimenting.

Test export showing two different texture sets.

Eye texture tweaking for a 2D style until they decided on the 4th one.

Cel style shading and standard texture differences

Testing rig and .spa/.sph/toons for the two versions

The final rig and weights were done by my friend Meowbait/Kat.https://www.deviantart.com/meowbaithttps://twitter.com/meowbaithttps://www.furaffinity.net/view/31664793/
