In an attempt to have people stop illegally/unauthorized editing my buddy PolygonCount/MonochromeAgent's MMD models he made on commission I wanted to offer a free furry head mesh for MMD users. Of course MMD models can be ported over to VRChat and other software so I would like to do a version that is compatible with VRChat as well.

Ideally I can offer it for free. But I've put 10 hours into it. If I worked at minimum wage of $15 USD I'd be charging upwards of $150.00 Except 3D work and other professionals should be charging $20-$30+ per hour??

It takes me a long time because I use a method called "Point modeling"

Each polygon I have to create 1 by one, by clicking 4 times to make each corner of a square polygon, or 3 times for a tri. That's. A lot of clicking and then manually adjusting each point in a 3D space so I can get the shape I want.

There are faster ways probably but I can't afford sculpting/retopology software. I don't do nearly enough 3D modeling to justify that.

I made this base head 8 years ago. You can see it here: https://skfb.ly/ZGHQ

It's pretty solid, at least in the area of the snout, eyes & eyebrows. I thought I could just update it a little bit and make a quick free to use model out of it in a couple of hours. But it's... gotten a lot more work than that because I actually know more of what I'm doing now.

It had a lot of reworking like making the mouth loop better so I can actually make face shapes with it.

I've UV mapped it, generated some AOs, and textured it which was most of the stuff I did today.

After texturing and kind of trying to hide the UV seams I've moved on to shape keys/facial morphs. I still have several more vowels to do as well as eyebrow expressions and blinks/winks, etc.

Any critique regarding the head shape is welcome. I assume most people will be placing hair on it but you never really know.

I've made two kinds of eyes. Sphere eyes which, tbh I may just drop because expressions for the eyelids might cause a lot of clipping. And Flat plane eyes which are more common for MMD or anime styled models, this allows you to make different eye shapes, as you're not limited to shaping it around a sphere. (An example would be tall eyes like Sailor Moon style, they wouldn't really work with sphere eyes at all, at least in the limited area of MMD.)

So here's what 10-ish hours of 3D work looks like. Here's hoping I can get something out of it.

OCT 19 EDIT:I'm just gonna add to this post when I update the model. I've made several shape keys/facial morphs/whatever you wanna call them today/Yesterday and adjusted the head shape a bit.

Ignore the wacky colors, they're just saved selections because it's easier to select by material than "store selections".

Same as the last one, just a slight edit and I didn't want to delete the old one and lose any work.

I need to add some polygons in his head to come out and form the bottom part of the eye, this is an anime > < expression.

This is to move his upper teeth down into view if it's needed. Likely won't get much use but it was easy enough to add.

I'm also considering giving it a body anyways. >_>Going to test morphs for body types as you can freeze a morph and apply it permanently in PMXe and probably other software as well.

I'd like to only have to get 1 body rigged that can be tweaked instead of 2-4. x_x

Next up is Texturing the body, I've already got it unwrapped, as I'm working off of a Mesh I already made a while ago, I just refined it and stuff!
