Hey guys!

Here's what's coming:

Two brand-new story acts

New combat systems

New mechanics

New gameplay features

Two arcade minigames

Community-designed companion

Let's go!

THE PLAN

Sunday, July 5 — everything drops to beta

One week of testing — I fix the backlog + whatever you find

Then — public release

NEW OPENING — ACT 1: STILLMERE

The beginning of the game is completely rebuilt. Old intro is gone.

You start as a level-1 nobody with an actual party of three — archer, healer, paladin (each with their own combat role and stances)

Real early-game questline — caravan runs, night rests, party banter.

The demoness recruitment is a whole new arc now.

Just don't get attached to these people. That's all I'm saying.

(keep an eye on who looks tired in the mornings)

NEW ACT — THE CATHEDRAL OF CLOSED EYES

The biggest single act in the game so far.

Infiltrate the Church's heart on paperwork that is technically still valid. Archives that remember more than the Church does. Fight the Order of Closed Eyes cell by cell.

A boss who grows DURING the fight.

Optional guest-wing scene (growth-stage aware, obviously)

After the story: the Cathedral stays open as a repeatable zone — come back anytime, clear holdouts, grind levels and loot.

VIVIENNE

Oh boy. Vivienne.

Her mental state now branches on your relationship — devotion or fracture. Different banter on each path

A quiet scene at a night fire (might be my favorite thing in the update) And if you let her trust break all the way… an interrogation you will not forget. Two endings. Only one lets you walk away. That's all you're getting from me 😅

NEW MINIGAMES IN MAIN MENU

Essence Hunt — play the demoness: start tiny, hide in bushes, drain the unwary, become the apex predator. High score chasing.

Oobie: Overflow(name still WIP) — it's agar.io but you're Oobie. Eat smaller slimes, run from bigger ones, grow until you devour the ENTIRE map, shrink, go again. It eats time exactly like agar.io did back in the day. Sorry in advance.

OTHER SMALL THINGS

Size matters in combat now — height difference shifts damage up to ±20%

New illustrated Quest Board with quest cards

A pile of fixes and balance passes (more coming out of beta week)

DESIGN THE NEXT COMPANION — Marked by Her & Bound Ally

So. About that companion.

In the Cathedral act you recruit a defector — someone who spent months alone inside, memorizing patrol routes, opening doors for you, misdirecting guards. Quiet. Observant. Very good nerves.

They're already partially wired into the game so i can easy tweak it based on your choices — stats, battle role, story, everything.

So now you need to tell me who they actually are. That part is yours.

Marked by Her and Bound Ally — drop your ideas in the comments/DMs:

1. Race / species — human? beast-kin? spirit? construct? something the Church would absolutely not approve of?

2. Look — appearance, silhouette, the details that make them them

3. Style — vibe, aesthetic, how they carry themselves

4. Growth type — everyone grows in this game. What fuels theirs, and what does it look like?

5. Class / combat role — currently built as an evasive, magic-resistant infiltrator, but that can change

Two ground rules so the winner actually fits: they survived months alone inside a hostile Cathedral (loud chaotic gremlins are a hard sell 😅), and growth is the heart of this game — bring a fun growth hook and your odds go WAY up.

I'll pull the best suggestions into a poll during beta week, everyone votes, winner goes into the game. Most of the surrounding content is already built, so this lands fast.

PS

You can play the current build here:https://in-her-shadow.netlify.app

Remember when I said the next update "probably means a month"? Yeah. About that 😅

But it's here, it's impressive, and beta is in three days. Let me know what feels good, what feels off, and, most importantly, what completely breaks.

Huge thanks to everyone supporting the project. And special thanks to Gard for the mountain of bug reports — the backlog is getting cleared this week, I promise.

See you Sunday.

— Regards, CM

Why are you gatekeeping what people are playing the game for behind standard RPG stuff? It just sounds so stupid to me.

In Her Shadow

Sup, I personally enjoy the sexy stuff a lot more when it feels like a reward. I also believe the game can be engaging story-wise, not just growth-wise. That's why I like NickSav's Growing Vengeance so much. Otherwise, if all I wanted was height-difference content, I'd just generate pictures. I do agree that the pacing might end up being too slow, but that's something that can be tweaked as the game gets bigger. And that's actually one of the reasons I'm adding the minigames. If someone just wants growth content, they'll be super simple, quick to jump into, and won't really have any gates at all. I mean, sorry if that's not your thing, and I can understand that, but that's the vision I have for this game.

I see it as adding more grind to an already very grind-heavy game. Plus many people will just not care about what is effectively a super long prologue with characters you know are probably going to die.

Can the boss be refightable in the Cathedral? But it's more of a shade than the boss itself?

How about a Clay Golem? In Jewish folklore, Golems were servants created by Rabbis to carry out their will. They are simple beings, carrying out instructions to the letter and having an unshakable loyalty. Stories often include the theme of hubris, as the creation of Golems can lead to disaster to their master, the town, and themselves. They tend go on rampages when its master or itself is in peril. The idea comes from one story in particular, the Golem of Chełm. According to the tale, the rabbi created the Golem to perform house work, but it grew in power and size day by day. Eventually, the Rabbi decided to deactivate it out of fear, but he could not remove the rune powering the Golem on it’s forehead as it had become too big for him to reach it. The rabbi tricked it to lower its head by asking it to take off its boots. Upon the rune’s removal, the Golem returned to inanimate clay and crushed the rabbi when it fell over on him. The image that comes to mind is a character who is the strong silent type (as Golems often lack the ability to speak), letting her actions speak for her. A motherly figure who’s sincere and kind to everyone. Despite her size, she moves with graceful genteelness, as if confident in her convictions. She’s loyal to a fault; protective and aids those she trusts, to the point of obsession in some cases. However she’s not the sharpest one, often causing trouble by taking things at face value, being oblivious of her surroundings when carrying out duties, and misunderstanding the intention of her commands like Amelia Bedelia. Appearence wise, her figure is either bottom heavy or milf. She’s dressed in robes, a birette, and a blindfold as symbols of her connection to the Cathedral of Closed Eyes, with heavy leather gloves and boots in the style of the Priest vocation from Dragon Quest III. Her face and body is beautiful and highly detailed, uncommon for a traditional Golem but serves as a sign of the care and love put into her by her creator. She has clay sculpted into the hair style of a short cut, I’m imagining either a classy side part or a bob cut. Her most defining feature is the rune encrusted gem embedded into her, either on her forehead or in her chest. This the source of her power, giving her life and imbuing her clay with holy magic. If removed, she’ll deactivate and return to a clay statue, but putting it back reactivates her. A funny alt costume for her could be a maid outfit, given her natural affinity to serve others. In terms of growth, it couldn’t be easier, she’s made of clay! Not only is it a means of easy repair, but the source of her growth. The reasoning for her to grow is the belief that it will better her abilities to serve and protect. If she is to fulfill her duties and help her allies, she must be strong enough to overcome any challenge. This can be seen as both a good and a bad thing, good because of her sincerity to do good, but bad due to being accident prone already. Combat wise, I have some ideas. Just to preface, I’m still relatively new to the game. I don’t know the abilities of other characters besides the protagonist and demoness, so I apologize if there’s any overlap. Her stats favor high vitality and a strong defense, but is slow with a low base speed and middling offense in most of her of her stances. The first is the “Guardian” or “Brick Wall” stance. Using her heavy clay body, she protects other party members from attacks with her magic resistance, with some self healing to prolong survivability. Next is the “Martyr” or “Sacred Clay” stance. She fully dedicates to being a support role, using her own clay to buff and heal allies, while cleansing stat boosts and debuffing enemies. Finally, the “Berserk” or “Righteous Fury” stance. She forgoes all means of defense to attack unrelentingly with her super human strength, giving her a buff to her strength stat and piercing damage, while inflicting recoil damage on herself as a cost. For story implementation, she was created by the order to serve as a protector and assist in housekeeping at the Cathedral along with her elderly creator/caretaker. She was beloved by all, and seen as a crucial member of the Cathedral’s day to day operations. Given her extensive responsibilities, she was given near unrestricted access to the facilities within the Cathedral to perform optimally. When the corruption reveals itself and attacks the Cathedral’s inhabitants, she fails to protect her master from monsters. As the master died, they gave their creation one final command: stop the monsters, and purge the evil within their home. As a result, she proceeds to wander the now blood stained halls in a silent rampage, killing anything she comes across in hopes of fulfilling the last command of her dead master. When the party first encounters the holy golem, she sees them as enemies at first, but upon finding clues to her true nature, she joins the party to put a stop to the heresy. At the act’s end, having completed her final duty at the Cathedral, she now sees the protagonist as her new master, and stays with the group to serve him. If you took the time to read all of this, thank you. I hope you enjoyed the idea. I look forward to see how this project develops and the stories yet to be told.

In Her Shadow

Hey there, thanks for sharing the idea! I liked literally everything except her battle role (the Martyr role is already taken by Vivienne)😅 The strong, silent type who rebuilds herself and grows by absorbing clay is a really cool concept. So yeah, with a couple of lore and gameplay tweaks, I could definitely implement her. She's definitely going into the poll!

In Her Shadow

I'll think about it. First, I want to see how the boss fight feels in the first place. I've also been thinking about adding more unique boss battles like this to Marrow's questline as a new bounty hunter section. That might be a better place for rematches.

Is the new update coming soon?
