I hope you enjoy, and be sure to fill out the in-game survey when you're done! Your feedback is super appreciated.
The journey so far
After working since early 2024, I posted a small teaser over on Bluesky on Feb 20 earlier this year. One eagle-eyed Bluesky-er caught wind of another teaser around the time of the Switch 2 Direct, a month later. There were no Switch-related surgery games announced.
After much deliberation about how much longer I wanted to wait on going public, I decided, "eh, gotta do it eventually", and posted the game's announcement trailer early in the morning on July 17.
It went way better than I had expected, with over 1000 fans reposting and over 2000 liking the trailer. I'm pretty sure I've read each and every comment by now, which were pretty much all excited and enthusiastic. It was like an ultra-precise guided airstrike. This was gonna be good.
In late August, I found myself included in a post by Wario64 - known for posting a lot about video games. The post was about the Steam Anthro Fest, and wouldn't you know it, my game was there!
Steam Wishlists. In case you were wondering, this is an extremely important metric for game devs to keep track of, as it's a good indicator of how the game will do upon release.
As of shortly before the demo, CE:ROM's sitting at about 5.1k wishlists. The recommended amount, from what I've researched, is 7-10k wishlists. On release.
This is before the demo is even out; 5k is outstanding. So, thank you!
Moving forward
There's still a lot more of the game that I need to make, but worry not, it will be made!
Right now, Chapter 1 is basically done and polished, and half of Chapter 2 is in a playtestable state. The game will feature six Chapters, so there's still a bit to go.
Thankfully, most of the time I've spent has been developing core supporting systems, etc. In other words, the skeleton that holds everything up is more or less there, and I've "just" got to put the rest of the meat on!
If you're interested in following the game's progress, feel free to join the game's Discord! There is a channel kept up-to-date with each and every one of my code commits. You can also keep following me here on Patreon, if you prefer.
I am targeting next summer's Steam Next Fest. No guarantees on the exact date, but yes, I would like to release a full game within a reasonable amount of time. I'll do just that.
Extras
It's just me working on this project! If you would like to support the development of the game, feel free to take a look at this Patreon's membership tiers! I'm posting some behind-the-scenes stuff; I'll be making alpha builds available for playtesting and feedback; and you can even get your name in the game if you'd like!
Also, there is the possibility I'll make available the opportunity for you to help design a patient to put in the game. These would be for 'less story-critical' patients, and it would include stuff like the chart info (name, species, etc) and exterior patient bust. The funds will be used to help with hiring a musician for an OST! I'll let y'all know when I'm ready for that, but do lemme know if it's something that would be interesting!
Anyway... that's all for now. Have you played the demo yet? What're you waiting for?
