Hope your January has gone well! Here's a brief weekly progress update about CE:ROM.

Game Implementation

Episode 3-1 has been more or less completed in its entirety. This includes:

The operation itself, involving:

The graphical assets (new organs/parts/etc)

The ailments (new "things that are wrong that you have to fix")

The actual scripting (creating an actual sequence of things that happen during an op)

The dialogue that goes along with the operation (having characters instruct what to do and respond to what's happening)

Plus the characters' expressions (Spark, stop smiling, the patient's literally dying)

Fluff dialogue (to account for / acknowledge the player doing funky things)

Score and rank tuning (which are still probably overtuned)

General bugfixing (because it never ends)

Story-writing, including:

Writing the actual pre-op, briefing, and post-op dialogue (and keeping it all straight with the rest of the story)

Scripting character expressions (those are all done manually, by the way)

Scripting character positions and other effects (it's like directing a play)

Just thought I'd list out a few of the things that need to be done for each episode~

Day of the Devs

Every year, Day of the Devs holds an in-person, free indie game event in San Francisco.

I saw Blue Prince in-person last year.

In 2022, I saw Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles.

It takes place in a big indoor venue and a few dozen indie games are put on display for anyone to try. It's pretty cool.

I've personally seen several games that go on to have a pretty good release on Steam. It's fun to try 'em all out, and sometimes you can even chat with the actual devs!

Anyway, I applied CE:ROM to SF:DotD '26. Fingers crossed.

Miniature Rant

I might write more about this thing later.

I hate it. So much.

It's very useful, don't get me wrong. (This "Incomplete Floater" appears if the player partially-completes certain actions. For example, if they apply solder, but not enough; or if they start unscrewing a screw, but don't take it out all the way. This helps indicate, hey, you didn't actually complete this task.)

But man. Making it appear in the correct place at all times was a nightmare. Entirely my fault, by the way.

Anyway, I think I fixed it this week. Yay. Rant over.

Updated Trailer

As part of the application, I went ahead and updated the game's trailer.

It's unlisted at the moment, but if you fancy, here's an early chance to see it.

Nothing major has changed, but some of the more repetitive scenes have been swapped out for newer ones. Because, well, they exist now! Wow.

Next Week

I'm touching up 2-5 and will be sending it off as an alpha very soon. Next will be 3-2.

Until next time!
