FWA 2026 Roundup! (Patreon)
Content
Hey, long time, no post! The last few weeks have been busy - but the game has, indeed, progressed, and it was showcased in-person at FWA in Atlanta, Georgia!
The Event
For four days, I manned a booth in the con's Video Game Room. Attendees could play a special version* of Cutting Edge: ROM on Mouse+Keyboard, Steam Deck, and even with a Wiimote!
*A cut-down version that removed 95%+ of the story portions, instead focusing on getting people to playing the Prologue, 1-1 thru 1-3, C-1, and a version of 3-3 (!).
Praise Pencil.
Absolutely prime real estate right next to the entrance escalator. Did you also notice the Wii Nunchuck?
It was sort of a pain figuring out the banner, its stand, and how to bring it all on a plane, but it worked out!
The game drew a pretty good crowd, and it was quite consistent! Butts were in chairs way more often than not.
Lots of people had a friend or two watching.
My 10-year-old laptop (left), which I had intended to use just for showing videos, ended up being extremely useful as the M+KB machine. My main laptop ran the Wiimote setup on the large screen.
The game runs significantly "better" on Steam Deck as well as other touchscreen devices. "Better" means the game now properly handles touch events, rather than doing wonky things like double-clicking.
The demo was even speedran live and raised over $500 for charity! Find the VOD of the run here!
I'm glad to be back home, though. I'd been traveling for over half a month, mostly to visit family.
There's another upcoming in-person event that CE:ROM will be at. Keep an ear out for the announcement soon!
Work since last month
In terms of actual game development, work has mostly focused on writing for Chapter 4. I'll be working on not only getting the first drafts of the story all completed, but also going back to Chapter 3 and tweaking a few things to make sure all the major events flow nicely and each characters' plot points are hit.
Additionally, coding work is in progress on another, well... Why do I hear boss music?
Public demo update
I plan on updating the Steam demo soonTM, mostly because I want to push out the touchscreen / alternate control scheme improvements and a few other QoL fixes. It's been over half a year since the last update, after all!
Next time
I aim to have the writing for "Act 2" finished up, as well as at about 25-33% of its actual operations complete next. I'll also be more-aggressively seeking musicians, and most of Chapter 3's Alphas will have been released for feedback.
Phew... back to work!
*Regarding the "Floor Demo" version of the game expo'ed in-person...
