Not one, not two, but FIVE police officers recommended I check pawn shops for the stolen items in my car (like my Moxi roller skates). Then, after driving 35 minutes to a pawn shop near where the thieves seemed to be most active, I found out that everything pawned in Oregon is put into a 30-day hold to cross-reference it with stolen items in police reports so, essentially, the police didn't want to sit down and itemize what was stolen in the police report which would be the only way for me to recover it.

Then I came home to a ripped-open box addressed to me with a note from my neighbor that they found it empty on their lawn. So now I've been dealing with Amazon for the last 2 hours trying to determine if any other packages were stolen (i.e. gifts from my wishlist; if you sent me something and I haven't said thank you, this is probably why). I got a PO Box and all my mail will be going there from now but I am still super drained by all this. Oh, and I'm still having issues with my bank and my insurance related to the theft and that's how I spent the first 3 hours of my day.

Then, because this is the lame event that never ends, the appointment I had to detail my car trying to reschedule and then tried to claim I was outside of their "range" (I was not, I explicitly confirmed that before I had scheduled with them) and they would have to charge me another $30 on top of the $140 I had already paid for the appointment. This of course led to another hour on the phone demanding, and eventually receiving, a refund.

I'm still beyond grateful my car was found and I was shown so much support by people but I am freaking drained emotionally, financially, and time-wise from this event. I feel like every day for the last 3 weeks has been spent on dealing with this issue and consequences thereof. I want to get back to my normal life! I want to create some cool shit and interact with my peoples!

I just want this whole thing to be in the past already!

Thanks you guys for listening to me bitch and moan. I appreciate having the outlet.

Semi-Interesting Photography

(Liking the photo part. 😉) If you have a window that looks onto your porch in a useful way, the Arlo Ethernet wired camera is inexpensive and requires no accessory hardware or base station and works well. Would be a good thing to add to your wish list. The Palo Alto PD gave me the same super helpful suggestion to contact Palo Alto area pawn shops, from Seattle, regarding my stolen camera/lens/Pelican case/etc. They really put in the effort.

I used to have a cheap plastic "wicker" bin with a lid, about 20 inches on a side, on my porch for packages. One day someone stole the bin ... when it was EMPTY. I have trouble understanding that. So I ordered a chest large enough to put a body or two in and put about 50 lb of pavers in the bottom, and put up the Arlo cameras and lights. My rented townhouse directly faces the street. So far, nothing stolen. I have a camera in the chest along with a camera up above the door. I think it's cute when someone puts a package in the chest and takes a photo of it and I wind up with a video of someone taking a photo of my camera. "Trust, but verify."
