Quarantine Chronicles, Episode 1 (Patreon)
Content
I've taken to writing a poem everyday of quarantine. I use to spend a lot more time on poetry - mostly when I was in college - but have kind of avoided it over the last few years because I could never tell if what I was writing was technically valid poetry. As someone with an English degree, it's important to me write something both interesting and academic. However, I've been reading a lot more poetry lately and it's inspired me to write just to write. So here you go...Day 1My heart hurtsSo I eat ice creamMy teeth hurtSo I eat more ice creamDay 2I want to come over But you'll get the virusHe saysLike it matters To him or I.My cats will still eat me in the end3I built a wall for youOut of ugly grey concrete Slabs shaped like they mattered Like they were anything butUgly grey concrete But itll do the jobHold back the earthFor 50 years to comeAssuming no one has the nerveTo do the workTo demolish itLet erosion take chargeOr plant an unsteady garden.Did you know these things dont need adhesive? They just areHeld together only with weight and physicsAudacityAnd ugly grey concrete 4I can't die.
