No recs here yet? Well, going off the reaction from Kaiju No.8 you may enjoy 86 Eighty-Six. Plenty of characters, development, plot, emotions, and action.

Top recommendations for recent shows: Freiren: Beyond Journey's End High fantasy about an elf mage after the big bad is already defeated. It's fighting for my top all time spot. Mostly more light hearted with some intense moments, and when they do pull out action they go hard. Dr Stone Everyone gets turned to stone, genuise teenager wakes up thousands of years later after everything crumbled and wants to rebuild from the ground up with the power of SCIENCE! There's some shonen anime nonsense here and there but it's genuinely both an educational and a fun series. Old School Recommendation: The original Trigun. Humanity fled earth a long time ago, and what's left primarily lives on a mostly desert world. A gunslinger named Vash the Stampede had a massive bounty on him for having supposedly wipped out entire cities, yet somehow the guy that matches his description best seems to be an idiot goofball who refuses to kill.

Accel World Bocchi the Rock! FLCL (2000) [Dub] One Piece (Sub) [Using One Pace for the slower arcs and checking out the cover stories] JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Sub)

One of the best and most unique shows I've seen come out recently that I think you'll love is Princess Principal, a steampunk spy/action show that takes place in the mid 1800s England. It's an original anime show. Sadly we don't see get too many original shows anymore, they tend to be the most unique. Since it takes place in England, the dub is the best version because they all have English accents. Ghost in the Shell is one of the most influential and in my opinion one of the best shows made. It's a cyberpunk anime that probably influenced every cyberpunk anime to come out. It's incredibly deep and delves into quite a few philosophical and psychological themes. The main plot is quite complex but amazing. I do suggest watching the dub so you don't miss anything. It can be easy to miss something important to the plot. A very emotional show that had the best animation you'll see is Violet Evergarden. It's another very unique show with a truly amazing plot that I think you'll truly love. There are so many incredibly unique shows that aren't well known and get overlooked that I think you'll really like.

I'd like to recommend Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

I'm not sure how make anime shows you can do at once but if you are able to do multiple you should think of having one slot for a short series and one for a long one. Short would be like 24ish episodes long while long upwards around 4 seasons. I feel anything longer than 4 would take you forever, especially if their 24 episode seasons.

You make a good point, I would love to get to the point where I can do more than one at once like that! Hopefully once I can get where stuff is more ahead here I can learn to balance adding another show to the regular schedule. It’s sometimes a struggle doing the watching and editing along with working full time but I don’t make enough to pay a separate editor just yet or to go down to part time at my day job😅 hopefully at some point though!

I'd like to recommend Overlord if you haven't seen it.

Umamusume Pretty Derby is an anime I'd like for you to watch. You can try out the 4-episode OVA titled Road to The Top on YT

Bofuri: I Don't Like Getting Hurt So I Maxed My Defense is pretty self explanatory in the name, but it is also pretty comedic. Two seasons. Rokka Braves of the Six Flowers is great and has a unique style, but has the massive downside that it's only one season. Gamers! is one of the ones I consider a comedic gem. It has a lot of the misunderstood situation trope, but pulls it off really well.

Sneaky_Arachnid

Im gonna nominate Witch hat Atelier if its not already on your radar!

To change things up a bit, here's a couple anime movies that are truly incredible, creative, and unique. First there's Paprika, a movie that will really mess with your mine. The story introduces the idea of a device that let's people enter your dreams. Slowly like characters in the movie you won't know if they're dreaming or awake. Next is Redline, an insanely energetic fast paced racing movie with no rules that's held on a planet that is completely against it and uses their military to try and stop it. A short film that's part one is six called Virgin Punk Clockwork Girl. All I'll say is that it's one is the best cyberpunk shows/movies I've seen since Akudama Drive. You'll be amazed by the animation. There's Scarlet, a retelling of Hamlet with a female MC Scarlet. Their adaptation tells the story in a way that it delves into a couple themes on top of the ones already in Hamlet. It has some of the best animation I've seen since Violet Evergarden and Fate Stay Night Heavens Feel. Finally there's Ghost in the Shell 1995 movie. It is the most influential anime (both movie and series) ever to be made. It's the true GOAT and we'll never see anything come close to it.

Fatalistic Viking

I'm not sure if you enjoy really philosophical anime, but if you are then you have to see Ergo Proxy, it's the most philosophical anime ever made. I came really tell you what it's about because it's really easy to spoil it. If you are interested there are somethings that are important to know before watching it.

I'd like to also recommend Shangri-La Frontier. It tends to keep a solid pace going most of the time, has a lot of good humor and is based in a game world where the characters are not stuck in the game.

Khan_5

Is a bit different, but I really like "Summer Wars". It's standalone movie, that is basically about family bonds and dangers of a fully connected web.

Fatalistic Viking

You should really check out either Violet Evergarden or Kyoto animation's newest project Sparks of Tomorrow. As you know Violet Evergarden has the best animation you'll ever see and since Sparks of Tomorrow is from the same studio you'll get the same quality, though it's not as insane as Violet.

Fatalistic Viking

Before you think about watching the second season of cyberpunk edgerunners you have to check out the new Ghost in the Shell. It's an insanely accurate adaptation of the Manga and my favorite series of the year. The only other anime that I'm as excited as I was for GitS is The Witch of Holy Night, which will have the best animation you'll see only second to Violet Evergarden and btw Fate's animation style is completely different than Demon Slayer. It's Ufotable's new movie that's also part of the Fate universe. This is the 4th iteration of GitS. They're all a self contained story and approach all of the insanely deep and philosophical/psychological themes GitS is known for. This iteration blends comedy, incredible action, and deep philosophical/psychological themes, some of which are pretty dark perfectly. The animation is completely hand drawn, which is pretty rare nowadays. It's kind of like only using practical affects in movies/TV shows. The Manga is from the 80s and somehow it was able predict a scary amount of things that are occurring today, or in the near future. Many of the stuff before things like the Internet were even an idea. It's only 10 episodes this season and the reason why is because it covers the first volume of the Manga. You should consider watching the other series of GitS, Stand Alone Complex, right after you watch the new one so you can see how they're different, though you can't really compare the two since they're both trying to do their own things. Oh and btw even though the new one is much more colorful and has a lot more comedy than the rest, it doesn't mean they it didn't get just as deep as the others. In fact the MC, Motoko Kusanagi or The Major, has a lot more personality compared to the rest and is actually the most complex of them all. The thing is that because she has a lot more depth that requires you to look past the surface. You have to pay a lot more attention to her actions, how/why she uses comedy and her motives behind the decisions she makes. GitS is definitely my favorite anime and you'll see why it's the true GOAT and most influential anime ever.
