Gun Chapter 55: Accepting the Emergency Mission (Patreon)

The supervisor’s expression changed instantly. Shock entered his previously stern face. He could clearly sense that this class aura was real—and that it belonged to an extremely rare special advancement, not a foundational class like Warrior or Mage. The fluctuations in it were a unique intertwining of energy and magic, far stronger than that of a basic class-holder at the same level.
The surrounding murmurs cut off abruptly. Every mocking or amused gaze turned into shock, especially among the ordinary adventurers, whose eyes widened in disbelief.
A fifteen-year-old class-holder!
In a remote frontier town like White Earth Town, that was a genius seen maybe once in a century.
Even the most famous genius in town had only condensed his rank and become a Level 1 Mage at eighteen. He was now already a Silver-rank adventurer.
But this boy in front of them was only fifteen, and he had already become a true class-holder!
Baru froze too. As a Level 3 Warrior, his perception of class aura was far sharper than most people’s. He could clearly feel that although Wakasha’s class was only Level 1, the density of his aura was even stronger than many Level 2 class-holders he had seen. And the fluctuation of this special class carried a killing intent that made even him feel faintly uneasy.
Moreover, judging from the fluctuation of magic, this class at least possessed spellcasting ability.
As the saying went, when strength was equal, the mage was the boss.
Only now did he understand why this boy dared to accept a Bronze-rank commission alone. He wasn’t being young and reckless. He truly had the confidence to back it up.
“Now, do I meet the requirements?”
Wakasha withdrew his class aura, his tone still calm, as if he had not just released the presence of a class-holder at all.
The supervisor’s face remained stiff for a full three seconds before he slowly set aside his coldness. His voice gained a trace of respect, along with a hint of incredulous curiosity.
“My apologies, adventurer. That was rude of me.
A Level 1 class-holder with a special class does indeed meet the requirements for accepting a Bronze-rank commission alone. Under guild rules, a special class is regarded as having twice the combat value of a basic class at the same level. In that case, you may accept this Bronze-rank commission by yourself.”
As he spoke, he gestured for Kufuku to continue processing the paperwork. His gaze, however, remained on Wakasha, and the shock in his eyes had not faded in the slightest.
After working at the White Earth Town Adventurers’ Guild for so many years, he could count the special class-holders he had seen on one hand. Most were noble children who awakened through rare talent and enormous resources. But someone like Wakasha—an orphan with no one to rely on, awakening a special class at fifteen—was simply unheard of.
Kufuku quickly picked up the commission registration form. Her fingertips trembled slightly from both excitement and worry as she swiftly filled in the information, the tip of her pen scratching across the paper.
“Mr. Wakasha, I’ll register it for you now. This commission has a three-day time limit. As long as you clear out the nest and kill the goblin chief within three days, the commission will count as complete. If you can rescue the abducted villagers, you’ll also receive an additional reward.”
As she wrote, she took out a wrinkled, simple map from under the counter and carefully handed it to Wakasha.
“This is the mine map provided by the villagers of Rockfall Village. It marks the rough entrance location and several main branching paths. But the goblins may have changed the trap locations, so you must be careful.
Also, the survivors from Rockfall Village said that deep inside the mine there is a flooded pool. The goblin nest is beside that pool, and the chief usually stays there.”
Wakasha took the map, his fingertips brushing over the rough paper. The lines on it were simple but clear. The outline of Blackstone Mountain, the entrance to the abandoned mine, and several branching tunnels were all marked plainly.
He quickly memorized the key information, folded the map, and put it into his bag. Then he nodded to Kufuku.
“Thank you. I’ll be careful.”
“Mr. Wakasha!”
Kufuku suddenly called out to him. She took a small cloth pouch from her pocket and quickly pushed it into his hand. It was warm to the touch and carried a faint herbal fragrance.
“There’s wound ointment and antidote powder inside, along with a few pieces of compressed wheat cake. There might not be a water source inside the mine, so make sure you replenish your strength. If you get hurt, use the wound ointment right away. The antidote powder can neutralize ordinary goblin poisons.”
Her cheeks were flushed, her golden cat ears drooping slightly, and her eyes were filled with sincere worry.
“You have to come back safely. I’ll wait here for you to return and turn in the commission.”
Wakasha held the pouch in his hand. He nodded gently, his tone softening a little.
“Don’t worry. I’ll come back.”
Baru, watching from the side, broke into a hearty smile. He stepped forward again and handed over a small bronze badge. The badge was engraved with a blazing sun pattern—the emblem of the Blazing Sun Adventuring Party.
“Little brother, take this badge. If you run into our party in the mine and show this, we’ll know it’s you. If you meet danger, you can also call out in our direction. If we can help, we definitely will.”
“Also, the mine is dark, and goblins are good at ambushing from the shadows. Since you’re going alone, you need to watch your back, especially at branching paths. Goblin traps are likely hidden there.”
Baru added, his tone full of sincerity.
“Our party is setting out first thing tomorrow morning. If you run into trouble you can’t handle, wait for us. Don’t force your way through.”
Wakasha accepted the badge, glanced at the blazing sun pattern, and casually placed it into his bag.
“Thank you, Captain Baru. I’ll keep that in mind.”
After finishing the commission procedures, Wakasha did not linger. He turned and walked toward the guild doors.
At that moment, none of the adventurers in the hall dared mock or laugh at him anymore. One by one, they watched his back with awed eyes, and even their discussions became much more cautious.
“He really is a monster genius. A fifteen-year-old special class-holder, accepting a Bronze-rank commission alone... he’ll definitely become a Platinum-rank adventurer in the future.”
“Maybe in a few years, he’ll surpass that Silver-rank Mage in town and become White Earth Town’s number one adventurer.”
“Even Captain Baru from the Blazing Sun Party took the initiative to show goodwill. That kid’s future is limitless. If we can build a good relationship with him, we might benefit from it later.”
Wakasha paid no attention to the murmurs behind him. His mind was already focused entirely on the goblin nest extermination mission.
Although he had become a Level 1 Demon-Hunting Gunner and possessed powerful skills and weapons, he could not afford to be careless when facing fifty or sixty goblins, an elite chief, and possibly even shamans.
When he stepped out of the Adventurers’ Guild, night had fully fallen. All the streetlights in White Earth Town had been lit, their warm yellow glow illuminating the stone-paved road. There were only a few pedestrians left on the street, and only a handful of taverns still had their lights on, with occasional bursts of rowdy laughter drifting out.
