So! For years I've been taking plenty of photos of interesting locations, perspectives and sites. And I've done a photo study of them here and there. But I've been largely doing a lot of sketches recently and so I don't want to get rusty on that.

Especially since I know I'll be doing a short film that is based on my own country's environment. Instead of just trust my own memory, why not do some scouting and take a look at the photos I've taken when moving around in my own country and see what I can come up with.

It was fun playing with photos I've taken and painting them! That's because I don't need to stress about the foundation and I skip right to just painting it, at least for a few of them. The one's that weren't directly based on photos (like the first painting), meant I had to do the construction of the scene, the colors and all that. That first picture I did AFTER all these other one's, as a way to see how I'd feel doing my more usual workflow after my little training arc.

It went into a more evocative color palette rather than a realistic one but it really worked imo.

I got SOOO much practice drawing foliage because there's no easy brush or tutorial on the plants WE have and I didn't want to just copy how American or European artists say how to simplify foliage because that changes how the leaves look. For those NOT from tropical regions that have bushes like ours, how does it seem to you!

For now enjoy! Just like any good exercise I'll be resting for a bit and staying off my hands as much as I can.

See ya later! Adios!

Wow, I love the vibe of the 4th picture. The sky and the way it contrasts with the darker foreground is just super good
