My family is Colombian and I have always thought of the word mar***n as pretty offensive and close to how we use fa***t in English, which among some queer friends we use pretty freely, and I have felt comfortable around gay people speaking in Spanish using mar***n. Not sure how it differs in Spain, and also I grew up in the US. That being said, I wouldn't expect it to be censored on television in Spanish at all so that maybe contributes to it being used more freely too?

Fun to note, "mala leche" does literally translate to "bad milk" but it's referring to cum. It's used in many ways (to refer to someone who is an asshole, someone in a bad mood, or someone/something that is unlucky) and it's a reference to how bad your dad's cum was to turn you into the person you are today.
