I can't find the article right now, but in it the writer suggested that as Tabitha and Vanessa are long-time friends and colleagues, the producers used/chose/asked Tabitha to bring up the "trans woman doing drag" conversation right away in order to put it to rest, rather than have it percolate in the background.
