Brazil: Criminal Empire - Chapter 107: Frenzied Assault Marksman (Patreon)

Rock put aside the notebook for now. He needed to take the Death Squad and rendezvous with the Ghost Squad.
When Rock came downstairs, he found that the Death Squad members had already found three motorcycles.
On the narrow roads of the favela, motorcycles were the most practical form of transportation.
The four P90s and matching ammunition meant for the Ghost Squad were strapped to both sides of the motorcycle frames. Several boxes of M249 ammunition were secured alongside them.
The team members had also brought along a box of M26 grenades.
Once the two squads linked up, the Ghost Squad could immediately switch equipment.
The three motorcycles were arranged with one assault trooper and one marksman on each bike.
Rivaldo was the exception. He had to ride with a marksman, and the marksman had to drive because Rivaldo was carrying the M249.
Holding his AK-308, Rock climbed onto the back seat of one of the motorcycles. Strictly speaking, he also counted as a marksman.
It was just that, given his fighting style, a more accurate description would be a frenzied assault marksman.
Only a few scattered gunshots could now be heard from the direction of the car wash.
The Ghost Squad had probably finished most of the fighting and was now cleaning up the remaining resistance.
Sitting on the back of the motorcycle, Rock finally had time to divert some of his attention to the system interface.
Compared to his usual performance, Rock had been relatively restrained in this battle.
He had deliberately left more opportunities for his teammates to score kills.
At Rock’s current combat level, at least within Brazil’s favelas, he was already among the very best.
Despite killing fewer than ten people this time, the rewards he received were as follows.
200 Experience Card ×1
50 Experience Card ×6
Rifle Shooting: Intermediate (173/400)
MMA: Intermediate (398/400)
Football: Advanced (712/1000)
Rock was genuinely shocked.
Leaving the other two aside, the Advanced Football skill alone was already extremely close to the Master level.
On a professional pitch, wouldn’t that put him among the ten best players in a top-flight league?
Rock’s combined Football skill had already been near the upper end of the Advanced level.
After merging this new skill into it, Football was pushed directly into the Master level.
Football: Master (52/5000)
If Rock stopped everything right now, he could probably live comfortably for the rest of his life on this Master-level Football skill alone.
The problem was, what use did Rock have for Football?
No matter how intense a battle on the football pitch might be, it could never compare to the thrill of blood and fire amid gun smoke.
If the Battle Angels grew powerful enough in the future that they no longer had to fight and kill every day, he could consider building a few football fields and playing with the children from the favelas.
For now, though, surrounded by flying bullets, even a god-level Football skill would not be much help.
There was not much to say about Rifle Shooting: Intermediate either.
Rock already possessed Rifle Shooting at the Master level, so merging in this skill produced only a minimal improvement.
As for MMA: Intermediate, it meant that yet another excellent athlete had fallen to Rock’s gun.
Rock had compared skill levels before. Once a skill reached Intermediate, it generally meant professional-level ability in that field.
The skill he had just absorbed was already extremely close to Advanced.
That meant that with enough training, its original owner could have reached the upper ranks of professional fighters.
The MMA techniques Rock absorbed covered multiple fighting styles. The ground-control techniques primarily drew from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling.
The striking techniques were mainly based on boxing and Muay Thai.
After absorbing the skill, Rock no longer had any obvious weaknesses in close-quarters combat.
As for the Experience Cards that dropped this time, Rock suspected the 200-point card had come from the guy with the Advanced Football skill.
Generally, Experience Cards worth more than 50 points only dropped from someone who possessed at least one skill at Intermediate level or above.
Rock did not bother dwelling on something he could not figure out.
His immediate priority was deciding where to put the 500 experience points.
He scrolled through his Skill list.
Quick Draw had already reached the Master level, but there was always room to become even faster.
Rock immediately put 100 experience points into it.
Quick Draw: Master (142/5000)
Your draw speed and angles are unmatched. Your weapon moves as naturally as your thoughts.
No matter how fast you draw, you still won’t beat me.
If we both reach for our guns at the same time, you’ll be the one who goes down first.
Improving this skill gave Rock even greater confidence in CQB.
He poured the remaining 400 experience points directly into Kung Fu.
Previously, Rock had focused on rapidly improving his combat skills to increase his chances of surviving firefights.
That was why he had invested almost all his experience into firearm-related skills.
But when it came to improving his physical capabilities, Kung Fu was still the skill that mattered most.
Kung Fu was not purely an internal or external martial art. Its various schools combined the training and fighting methods of both internal and external styles.
The last time Kung Fu advanced to the Advanced level, it had directly pushed Rock’s physical condition and mental state beyond their previous limits.
It had produced the effect of developing both his internal and external capabilities at the same time.
If he continued investing experience until Kung Fu reached the Master level, the improvement to his physical abilities would undoubtedly be enormous.
After allocating the points, the skill became:
Kung Fu: Advanced (435/1000)
A barely perceptible warmth slowly flowed through Rock’s body, subtly improving it.
Besides feeling lighter and more relaxed all over, even his mind seemed much clearer.
More importantly, even a casual strike could now produce far more force than before without injuring his own body.
Adding experience to a Skill did not mean nothing happened until the instant it leveled up.
Every point of experience produced some degree of improvement. Once enough accumulated, the gradual quantitative changes finally became a qualitative leap when the Skill advanced.
Rock switched his radio to the shared channel used by both squads.
During the battle, the Death Squad had switched to a separate channel to prevent the two teams from interfering with each other. They had agreed on this beforehand.
Once the Death Squad finished fighting, they would switch back to the shared channel so both sides could communicate freely.
“Ghost No. 1, Ghost No. 1, this is Death No. 1. Do you copy?”
“Ghost No. 1, copy.”
“How did the fight go?”
“Only one sentry escaped. Everyone else has been eliminated. We’re preparing to pursue him.”
“No need. The Death Squad is already on its way to rendezvous with you.”
“Copy.”
The entire Death Squad could hear the conversation between Rock and Cassiano, so Rock had no need to explain anything further.
Rock swung himself onto the back seat of the motorcycle, raised his AK-308, and called into the radio, “Move out.”
The assault trooper driving his motorcycle revved the engine.
The bike shot into the alley ahead like an arrow.
They traveled from the southern side of the Stone River favela to its northwest, weaving through countless twisting alleys along the way.
The motorcycles finally stopped outside a three-story, factory-style car wash.
Even before they came to a complete stop, Rock could see that the entire facade of the building was riddled with bullet holes.
The main entrance had clearly been hit by a powerful defensive grenade, leaving the surrounding area badly pockmarked.
It was more than enough to show just how fierce the battle had been.
