I Explore Urban Legends - Chapter 84: Should We Not Expose Them Just Because They’re Powerful? (Patreon)

As for the Reptilians, Liam’s recent investigations had at least confirmed that they were capable of influencing most government decisions.
Judging by what had happened at the biotech company, they were also continuing to infiltrate private organizations.
Victor’s situation suggested that they might have a large number of scientists and technical personnel under their control as well.
All of this made one thing clear. The Reptilians were an enormous and deeply entrenched force.
But should he refuse to expose them just because they were powerful?
That was what a coward would do.
Liam’s dream was to expose mysterious organizations that hid in the shadows. He didn’t just want to expose them. He wanted to film the evidence and have it played repeatedly on television.
Still, it was too early to think that far ahead. For now, his main priorities were the Reptilians in Boston and the Home of Wanderers.
Fortunately, he now had his most important lead.
A sudden stab of pain interrupted his thoughts.
He had gotten so worked up thinking about everything that his entire body had unconsciously tensed, pulling at his wounds.
It looked like he needed to deal with his injuries first.
Frank tried to persuade him.
“Liam, you need to go to a hospital. If those wounds aren’t treated properly, they could easily get infected.”
Liam shook his head. Injuries like these were no longer much of a problem for him.
“Don’t worry. I’m not putting my life in a hospital’s hands. I have my own way of dealing with this.”
With that, he started rummaging through the RV for a small knife and some gauze.
Watson’s ability could heal his wounds, but there were still pieces of shrapnel lodged inside his body that had to be removed first.
“Good. Time to clean these wounds.”
Liam found some clean water as well.
He started with the wound on his thigh, a gash he had gotten while escaping. Fortunately, there was no shrapnel inside.
After rinsing the wound clean, he covered it with his hand. A faint green light flashed. When he lifted his hand again, the bleeding had stopped and most of the wound had already healed.
Frank watched from the side in amazement.
“With an ability like that, you could open a hospital and make a fortune.”
“It’s not that simple. Legally treating other people isn’t something you can just start doing, and this ability takes a lot out of me. I’m already hungry.”
Before Liam could even get up, Watson brought over a large box of cupcakes in his mouth.
That saved Liam the trouble of getting them himself.
After eating several cupcakes, the hunger eased considerably. Or rather, the overwhelming sweetness drowned it out.
Once he had replenished some energy, Liam moved on to the remaining wounds. These were the ones with shrapnel embedded in them.
Frank spoke up.
“These wounds aren’t really something you should be treating yourself. Let me remove the shrapnel. I’m less likely to cause any additional damage.”
Liam readily agreed and handed him the knife. The remaining fragments were lodged in his arms and shoulders, places that were awkward for him to reach properly on his own.
Frank gripped the knife, but still couldn’t help saying,
“I think you need anesthesia.”
“No. Losing consciousness is dangerous.”
Frank had to admit that Liam had a point. In the end, he went ahead without it.
The sharp tip of the knife cut into flesh. Frank then used forceps to grip the fragment and pull it out.
After just one wound, cold sweat was already pouring down Liam’s body.
“You holding up?”
“No problem. As the host of a children’s show, I have to set an example for the kids. No matter what kind of injury I’m dealing with, I have to keep a straight face.”
“I don’t think children need to go that far.”
“I think that’s the only way children can learn to protect themselves in this world.”
“I think the world you see is very different from the one I see.”
Frank kept talking to distract Liam, but his hands never stopped moving. He knew they were at the crucial stage. They needed to finish while the adrenaline was still in Liam’s system.
Before long, the remaining five or six pieces of shrapnel had all been removed.
Liam immediately began healing the wounds while eating his way through Watson’s stash of snacks.
Just then, Janice walked over without any expression and took his hand.
Under Liam’s astonished gaze, the green light around his hand grew brighter and brighter until it was almost dazzling, while the speed of his healing increased dramatically.
By the time Liam had eaten everything in the RV except the raw meat, his wounds were almost completely taken care of.
Watson immediately came over whining pitifully and started pestering him.
Liam finally felt comfortable again and tried to console him.
“All right, all right. I’ll replace all your snacks next time.”
It took quite a while before Watson finally settled down. Only then did Liam turn his attention to Janice.
He hadn’t expected her to recover this much. She could now enhance his abilities simply by touching him.
Just what was her background?
Liam had asked Juan about her once during a casual conversation.
But Juan had been evasive. All he would say was that headquarters had sent her over and demanded that every one of her abilities be tested. Whether she lived or died in the process didn’t matter.
That answer had given Liam plenty of theories, but no matter which one was true, none of them meant anything good for Janice.
Liam stopped thinking about it.
He planned to go to the TV station and call Taylor and the others. Otherwise, Brooks might assume he was dead and start getting other ideas.
At the TV station, Liam finished making the call and saw James approaching him.
“Government officials came by today. They told us all to broadcast the exact same news report.”
Liam took the script and read through it carefully.
According to the report, a gang shootout had broken out on a street in Boston and spread to nearby buildings, causing extensive property damage. The police had announced that everyone involved would be arrested within twenty-four hours.
He hadn’t expected them to move this quickly.
They had even come up with a pretty convincing excuse.
“I have a feeling this has something to do with you. What exactly did you do last night?”
Liam handed James a tape.
“I have footage of Reptilians conducting human experiments.”
James’s hand jerked so badly that he nearly dropped the tape. Cold sweat immediately broke out across his body.
“You’ve really dug up the biggest story imaginable this time.”
He swallowed.
“I can’t help you with this. Something this big is way beyond what a small TV station like mine can handle.”
Then he tried to persuade Liam again.
“Liam, if everything you’re saying about the Reptilians is true, then I think you should stay out of it. An organization that powerful isn’t something people like us can bring down.”
Liam smiled.
“Don’t worry. I’m not going to force you to air something this big here. I know a show like Skinwalker is already about as far as your station can go. I’ll find somewhere bigger and make sure more people hear about this.”
James looked at Liam’s confident smile and sighed.
He too had once entered journalism full of passion and a desire to uncover the truth. But after starting a family, he had become extremely cautious about everything. Even the programs Liam normally made were enough to leave him on edge.
After thinking for a moment, James said,
“In that case, let me give you one warning. None of the media outlets I know are trustworthy.”
Liam had already expected that.
“Based on my calculations, the Reptilians have probably already taken control of the country’s major media outlets. But that doesn’t matter. When the time comes, I’ll make them beg to cover my show.”
