By the time Rock returned to the Great Rock Wall Favela with the two special operations squads, it was only a little past 11 p.m.
Everyone gathered in the first-floor lobby of the Battle Angels headquarters and laid out their weapons and equipment to sort through them.
In a few more days, the urban camouflage gear Rock had ordered would begin arriving in batches. The shipment included camouflage liners, camouflage uniforms, body armor, ballistic helmets, and tactical combat boots.
More interestingly, Ciro had found a head-mounted binocular night-vision device on a Chinese international e-commerce site that could be mounted directly onto a Kevlar helmet.
The equipment was originally intended for outdoor wildlife observation and camping.
Until they could get their hands on military-grade night vision devices, these would make an excellent substitute.
They offered visibility up to 300 meters in darkness, could run for eighteen hours on lithium batteries, and could also be connected to an external power source. That was enough for most close-range nighttime combat situations.
If they had possessed something like this back in the Stone River favela, Rock might not have needed to pull his men out so early. They could have stayed longer and taken advantage of the situation to gain a little more.
Although the equipment hadn’t arrived in time for this battle, buying it was still worthwhile. At the very least, Rock’s team would finally have access to night vision.
Ciro had also purchased matching tactical protective goggles from the same platform.
According to the seller, the goggles met U.S. standards and were resistant to both impact and blast debris.
Their two-millimeter-thick lenses were designed to withstand harsh conditions without breaking easily.
Once all this equipment arrived, Rock’s special operations squads would look even more like regular special forces units.
Because the order was urgent and Rock was willing to cover the shipping costs, the goods from Longguo were being sent directly by air to Rio de Janeiro Airport.
Their expected arrival time was almost the same as when Rock’s new identity documents would be ready.
He should be able to see the equipment before leaving for Paraguay.
Rock pretended to make another trip to the underground armory and brought out a fresh batch of FN57 pistols.
He had every member of Ghost Squad switch over to them.
From now on, both special operations squads would use FN57 pistols as their standard sidearm.
The ammunition was somewhat difficult to obtain, but Rock had seized 100,000 rounds from Correa, enough to last them for quite some time.
One pistol with two magazines was enough to deal with most situations.
The reason Rock had been in such a hurry to return and re-equip Ghost Squad was simple.
Once everyone had sorted out their gear and finished checking their weapons, half of the special operations members were heading to the Romance Club in the Ipanema district to enjoy the night.
With an FN57 each, they could even hold their own against opponents carrying ordinary submachine guns.
Tonight was Ghost Squad’s turn to relax.
Rock fully supported his special operations members taking time off.
After all, if they spent the night at the Romance Club, their presence effectively increased the club’s armed security.
If something happened there that the ordinary gunmen couldn’t handle, these elite fighters could step in.
As for the other squad, they would be accompanying Rock tomorrow to deal with the Gracie family.
So they needed to conserve their energy tonight.
Tomorrow would be Death Squad’s turn to have fun.
After Rock led the special operations squads downstairs to return all their weapons and equipment to the armory, everyone went back to their rooms.
The members of Ghost Squad went upstairs, showered, changed into casual clothes, and crammed into an SUV before heading for the Ipanema district.
Once Rock returned to his room, he immediately sank into the large bathtub in the bathroom.
A long soak after a battle was an excellent way to unwind.
Unexpectedly, neither Camilla nor Fatima was home tonight.
Rock found a note on the table saying they had gone back to stay at their old home in the Slope favela for a few days and would return tomorrow.
The place might have been run-down, but it was filled with memories of home.
Judging from the date on the note, they had left on the same day Rock took his men out on the mission. Since he wasn’t around, they had taken the opportunity to return to their old home and revisit some childhood memories.
Normally, after finishing his bath, Rock would have had another way to relax.
But Camilla and Fatima weren’t home.
And Rock had no intention of taking matters into his own hands.
He had barely stepped out of the bathroom when he saw someone he hadn’t expected.
“Boss Locke, want me to give you a massage?”
Fabiana was wearing a fitted short dress tonight, giving her strong build a distinctly feminine look.
A skirt suited her surprisingly well. It softened the impression created by her muscular thighs and made her overall figure much more balanced.
Fabiana and Ieda were two completely different kinds of women, each with her own distinctive appeal.
“You actually know how to do that?”
“Of course. I’m pretty strong.”
Fabiana raised her left arm and flexed her biceps, proudly showing Rock that she had more than enough strength for the job.
“In that case, I’ll leave it to you.”
There wasn’t a proper massage table in the room, so at Fabiana’s direction, Rock lay face-down on the sofa.
He had just finished bathing and wore nothing but a towel around his waist, so there was nothing else he needed to do. He simply relaxed against the cushions.
A pair of soft but powerful hands settled gently onto his back.
Rock soon realized that Fabiana really did know how to give a massage.
She controlled the pressure well, neither too hard nor too light, and it was surprisingly comfortable.
“Boss Locke, how does that feel?”
“Not bad. Feels great.”
Rock’s voice came out muffled against the sofa.
Fabiana firmly worked the tension out of the muscles throughout his body.
After finishing his back, she moved on to the front. After the upper body...
“Fabiana...”
“Shh. Don’t talk.”
...
“Locke, you’re amazing. That was the best I’ve ever felt. I mean the massage. You believe me, right?”
“I believe you. Sure. Whatever you say.”
Rock was completely relaxed now.
Apparently, even with Camilla and Fatima away, Fabiana was perfectly capable of taking care of this particular task.
She had already made her intentions clear last time, so when she volunteered to give Rock a thorough massage tonight, he hadn’t turned her down.
Just as she had demonstrated beforehand, Fabiana really was remarkably strong.
She had a sturdy, athletic build.
Only someone with Rock’s enhanced Physical Constitution could comfortably handle the kind of strength she put into her massage.
Still, there was something striking about her healthy, powerful physique.
“Fabiana, is there anything you’d like to do? I’m planning to open an affordable clothing store at the foot of the hill for Camilla and Fatima. You could help manage it too.”
“No, Locke. I’d rather stay here and help you keep an eye on the kitchen.”
Worn out from putting so much effort into the massage, Fabiana lay lazily in Rock’s arms.
She had finally gotten what she wanted today, so all the effort she had put into dressing up hadn’t gone to waste.
Fabiana had never been particularly ambitious.
She had seen her older brother Ronaldo earn Rock’s trust and be given important responsibilities.
And she was willing to spend the rest of her life repaying Rock for saving hers.
The Great Rock Wall Favela was now united.
The chaos and division that had once split it in two were gone.
More and more smiles were appearing on the faces of the residents.
People could enjoy their lives more freely and once again take pleasure in samba.
Rock was still running his stables business.
But Fabiana knew that the women working in those stables and clubs were all there by choice now.
As far as she was concerned, Rock was a good man, and she was willing to stay by his side.
