The giant Reptilian swiped a claw at Liam.
Liam tossed aside the microphone and reached out to catch the incoming claw, only to discover that the Reptilian was astonishingly strong. The blow sent him flying.
Seeing that even someone like Liam had been unable to withstand it, Juan took a deep breath and turned to his men.
“Guys, I’m counting on you.”
The warriors nodded firmly, then shouted in unison.
“For Tonatiuh!”
In the next instant, every warrior sacrificed himself, transforming into golden light that surged into Juan’s body.
The golden glow around Juan immediately condensed into armor that was almost solid. He clenched his fists, feeling the tremendous power coursing through him, then charged.
The Reptilian hadn’t expected Juan’s group to act so decisively. It immediately abandoned its playful attitude and muttered under its breath.
“I am a god.”
A strange energy spread from the Reptilian’s body, suppressing the golden light around Juan and forcing it into a layer less than a centimeter thick around him.
Juan didn’t dare turn his divine power into a weapon. Instead, he poured all of it into strengthening his body. By the time he reached the Reptilian, his muscles had swollen so violently that his skin was beginning to split.
He threw a powerful punch, and the Reptilian raised an arm to block.
“Crack!”
The sheer force of the blow snapped its arm.
Before Juan could even smile, the Reptilian gave its broken arm a shake, and it immediately reattached itself.
Its regeneration was unbelievably fast.
The Reptilian wasn’t having an easy time either. It had assumed that once it showed up, taking care of the two of them would be effortless. Instead, it had been pushed this far.
“Inferior race, how dare you be so arrogant!”
“Mr. Reptilian, please don’t say anything that can’t be shown on television.”
Liam got back to his feet and interrupted it, using his spiritual energy to conjure a lightsaber.
The Reptilian had only ever seen such a thing on television. It stared in surprise.
“How did you get that?”
Before Liam could answer, Juan burst out laughing.
“Haha! So you don’t know what that is either. Turns out you’re just as ignorant.”
With that, he charged again. His body couldn’t withstand this much divine power for long, so he had to end the fight as quickly as possible.
While Juan kept the Reptilian occupied, Liam seized an opening and brought his sword down, severing one of its arms.
“Why? How can you...”
The Reptilian instinctively grabbed at the stump. Juan took advantage of the opening, seized it by the throat, and slammed it to the ground.
Liam said nothing. He stepped forward and sliced off its head with a single stroke.
“Good thing you were here. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to land a hit on it.”
Looking at the fallen Reptilian, Liam let out a sigh of relief. He had realized that he now had a serious weakness. His defense was too poor, and he was also a little too light.
He hadn’t felt that the Reptilian was much stronger than he was, but with its two-and-a-half-meter height and enormous weight advantage, it had still been able to fling him away.
Liam already considered himself fairly heavy compared to an ordinary person, but against something like this, there wasn’t much he could do about it.
At that moment, dark shadows began flickering around them again. Juan was just about to say something when Liam shouted.
“Careful! That Reptilian isn’t dead yet!”
Juan immediately gathered his divine power again.
The severed Reptilian head lying on the floor let out two low chuckles.
“You’ll never uncover the Reptilians’ secrets.”
Something was wrong.
Liam suddenly understood. The Reptilian intended to take them down with it.
“Once I die, this place will become your grave.”
“Damn it! It’s going to destroy this place!”
The Reptilian opened its mouth and crushed the inside of its own mouth with its teeth.
“Sizzle!”
Its entire body was rapidly corroded away.
As soon as it died, a deep rumbling began to shake the basement.
“The basement’s collapsing! Get out!”
Liam shouted.
Juan barely managed to move before realizing that his body had completely broken down. He could no longer move at all.
He looked at Liam and spoke with a trace of resignation.
“Dying here is probably a fitting way to repay all the blood on my hands. Being buried underground with my men almost feels like having a home.
“Thank you for letting me do one good thing at the very end of my life.
“See you in Mictlan.”
With those words, Juan could no longer support himself and collapsed.
Liam sighed. There was no time to say anything more, so he hurried toward the stairs.
He raced out of the basement and reached the first floor just as everything behind him collapsed completely.
Strangely enough, only the underground section had caved in. The floors above were completely untouched.
Just then, a dark shadow appeared on his shoulder.
Lily had a huge pile of things clenched in her mouth.
After Liam took them from her, Lily sighed with relief.
“Good thing I signed a contract with the Little One. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to carry all this.”
Lily had gained Liam’s ability to strengthen her physique. She was now capable of helping him gather things from the battlefield even in the middle of combat.
Liam examined what she had brought back.
There were the tapes from the camera, along with a large stack of documents the Reptilians hadn’t had time to take away.
He smiled confidently.
With evidence this detailed, the Reptilians were in for a lot of trouble.
And if they decided to come after him for revenge?
They had just wiped themselves out alongside a branch of another faction. That faction would probably be more than happy to get its hands on something it could use against the Reptilians.
Not long after Liam stepped out of the hospital, El Sombrerón appeared beside him.
“It seems my children have all gone to the other world. Were you the one who killed them?”
“No. The Reptilians did.”
El Sombrerón looked up at the battered Liam.
“I believe you. Were they brave?”
“Don’t worry. I recorded how they fought.”
Hearing that, El Sombrerón spoke with pride.
“They were among our bravest people. To die fighting the enemy is the greatest honor they could have received.”
Then he hesitated for a moment.
“Could you make me a copy of those recordings?”
“Of course, but I have one condition. Actually, it’s more of a request.”
“I didn’t expect you to be asking me for something, young man. Go ahead.”
“I’ll make two versions. One will show Mexicans bravely fighting monsters. The other will expose the Reptilians’ crimes. Help me spread them.”
El Sombrerón fell silent for a moment.
“That won’t be easy. The Reptilians control most of the mainstream television stations.”
“You’ll find a way. You’re not planning to just let this go, are you?”
“You’re right. When can I get the recordings?”
“Soon. I have a very skilled assistant.”
...
That night, Liam drove the RV back into the forest.
After everything that had happened, the Reptilians probably wouldn’t make any moves for a while, so Frank returned home.
With a rare moment of peace at last, Liam opened his Events Logbook.
A large amount of new information had appeared.
