Rebecca rubbed her aching brow and slumped back in her chair, too exhausted to move.

Seeing this, Grace turned around and handed her a cup of coffee.

“Want some?”

“Ah, thanks.”

Once Rebecca seemed a little better, Grace turned her attention back to the screen in front of them.

The dense strings of technical data made her head spin, but at least she could understand the images.

“Is this the virus inside Alan?”

“...Phew, much better.

“You mean this? Yeah. This is what the viruses look like after being cultured.

“It took a lot of work just to separate them.”

After taking another sip of warm coffee, Rebecca seemed to come back to life. She put on the glasses lying on the desk, propped her chin on one hand, and began explaining.

Grace nodded, then asked, “Was it difficult?”

“You dummy. Of course it was difficult.

“But for me? Nothing I can’t handle.”

“So you figured it out?!”

“No... Haha. I could, but I only have so much energy.

“I still have to make time for my thesis and everything else. I’m a little short on time.”

Rebecca scratched her head and slumped down again.

Damn master’s thesis.

“Sounds like I’ve caused you a lot of trouble. Sorry about that.”

At the sound of the voice, both of them turned around.

Alan, dressed in a hospital gown, was slowly making his way toward them.

Rebecca shrugged.

“Studying you added plenty of useful data to my database, so I’m getting something out of it too.

“Feeling better? How’s the latest batch of inhibitors working?”

Alan flexed his biceps. He had lost some muscle after going so long without training, but there was still plenty left.

“I can feel my strength coming back.”

Grace glanced behind him and asked curiously, “Where’s Leon?”

“He got a pretty important message. You know how it is.”

Alan shrugged, found a chair, and sat down.

“I have to say, you got pretty lucky.

“Whoever injected you with those viruses didn’t use an especially high dose. Because I found out that if the concentration of just one of those three had been a little higher, you’d already be dead.”

Rebecca deliberately left them hanging, immediately catching both of their attention.

Seeing that she had succeeded, she turned back to the screen, pulled up another image, and pointed to it.

“This is Jill’s test report from after she escaped Raccoon City.”

“Jill? Raccoon City?”

Grace looked confused, while Alan already had a suspicion.

Rebecca assumed neither of them knew the details and began explaining.

“Ha. She’s basically superhuman.

“In Raccoon City, she ran into something even stronger than an ordinary Tyrant. Not only could it evolve after suffering severe injuries multiple times, it could also use all kinds of weapons.

“When we later compiled all the information, we designated it the Nemesis-T Type.

“I still don’t know how Jill survived being hunted by that thing.

“And most importantly, before it died, one of the bone spikes it fired infected her.

“She eventually found an antibody at Raccoon City Hospital, but the infection had already progressed too far. A sequence from the parasite had become incorporated into her genes.

“It doesn’t seem to have caused any major problems, though. The sequence appears to be incomplete.”

Alan understood immediately. He turned his attention to the screen.

“You’re saying one of the viruses inside me contains something related to that?”

“Exactly. But there are still differences. It seems to have retained only the self-healing and blood-production functions.

“As for evolving after suffering severe injuries... that’s not exactly easy to test.”

Alan shook his head.

“Forget it. Even if I can do that, I’d rather never find out.”

“Alan, I might have to leave for a while.”

Hearing Leon’s voice, Alan turned around.

“A mission?”

“Yeah. A secret assignment from the President.”

“Can you tell me?”

Leon looked at the three people in the room, thought about it for a moment, then decided there was no reason to hide it.

“I’m taking Ashley to China.”

“...What?” Grace and Alan said at the same time.

“Who’s Ashley?” Rebecca asked.

Leon answered simply.

“The President’s daughter.”

Alan stared at him, confused.

What the hell was going on?

Seeing his expression, Leon told them what he knew, along with what he had pieced together himself.

“The President had someone contact Hunnigan, and Hunnigan contacted me.

“It looks like he’s realized something isn’t right with Simmons. And with the recent changes in the political situation...

“Graham believes he may be in danger.”

Alan frowned.

He had no idea what Graham had done after leaving office, but judging from what Leon was saying, was Simmons behind this again?

And what about Ashley?

The more he thought about it, the stranger his expression became.

“I’m coming too.”

Leon immediately shook his head.

“Not in your current condition.”

“Who said I’m going to protect Ashley? I’m going because I can stop by and see Luis.

“One of the viruses inside me seems to be related to the Nemesis.

“Remember what Luis told us in Spain?

“He used to work on research involving the Nemesis series.”

Leon considered the pros and cons for a moment before finally agreeing.

He would be there too, so things should be manageable.

Grace raised her hand.

“I’m coming too.”

“No.” All three of them answered at once.

Grace stared at them in disbelief.

“Why?”

“Stay here and get your immune system back in shape first,” Alan said.

Grace immediately shook her head.

“If you can go in your condition, why can’t I?”

“I mutate. I don’t get sick.”

“Bullshit!

“I bet you just want to sneak off and go on a date with Ashley, and you think I’ll get in the way!”

“Oh, you are really testing my patience.”

Alan’s mouth twitched, but in the end he decided not to argue.

Grace knew there was no point pushing any further.

Leon decided to offer some additional “comfort.”

“It’s not only about safety. Did you forget you don’t legally exist?”

Grace froze.

A second later, she looked ready to burst into tears.

“Oh, right... Rebecca, I’m an orphan with nowhere to go. Please adopt me~”

Alan’s face immediately darkened. He turned toward Leon in protest.

“She’s cursing me! If she’s an orphan, what does that make me, her dad?”

“And stop taking advantage of me, Alan!”

“I’m your biological father. Prove me wrong.”

Leon pressed a hand to his forehead.

How was this possible?

They practically shared the same memories, yet somehow they could start fighting at the drop of a hat.

Even Rebecca couldn’t help laughing.

“All right, all right... Grace, just stay here for now. Without any legal identification, you really can’t go anywhere.”

“...Fine. I won’t go.

“Rebecca, you’ve got to know some way to get me legal documents, right?”

Rebecca waved her hands helplessly.

“I really don’t. You’ll have to ask those two.”

Grace immediately looked toward Alan and Leon.

“Hmm. Behave yourself, and when I get back, I’ll adopt you.”

“You!”

“Otherwise, you’re worse off than Snowy.

“Snowy is officially registered. It can even board a plane!”

“...You win.”

Leon sighed and patted Alan on the shoulder.

“Get ready, then. Ashley’s staying at Krauser’s safe house right now. We’ll pick her up once everything’s set.

“Our flight leaves early tomorrow morning.”

“Got it... A flight, huh? I’d better pack a few parachutes.”

Rebecca looked puzzled.

“Why would you need parachutes?”

Alan glanced at Leon, who had already left, then shook his head.

“You wouldn’t understand. There’s something cursed about Leon.”
