“If I’m not mistaken, this is the place.”

Leon looked at the wooden door in front of him and was about to push it open when Alan suddenly pulled him back.

Leon immediately withdrew behind cover.

“Yes... Don’t worry, sir. Everything here is perfectly normal.”

“...Understood. I’ll be waiting here for you.”

A phone call? There was a good chance the person on the other end was a merchant.

Alan patted Leon on the shoulder, signaling that they could move.

Leon immediately rushed into the room. Before the man could react, Leon had already pinned both his arms and forced him to the floor with a knee.

Alan followed close behind. After making sure no one outside had noticed anything unusual, he crouched in front of the man, stuffed a rag into his mouth, then injected him with truth serum.

Only after the man began foaming at the mouth and his eyes slowly rolled back, turning red, did Alan remove the rag.

Leon looked at the still-twitching man with concern.

“I wonder if truth serum even works on the infected.”

“If it doesn’t work, we’ll just have to wait for the merchant to come back.”

Alan switched on his voice recorder and watched as the man on the floor gradually stopped convulsing.

“What’s your name?”

“...Sibia.”

Alan and Leon exchanged a glance.

Looks like it worked.

“What’s your current position?”

“...”

“Who are you working for?”

“...Irving.”

“Full name?”

“Ricardo... Irving.”

Alan understood immediately and continued questioning him.

“What’s going on with those people outside?”

“...Residents injected with the Type II virus. They obey my commands.”

“Type II?”

Leon frowned and looked down at the man.

“What about Type 3? Is that what you are?”

“...Yes.”

Leon took a moment to process the information, then motioned for Alan to continue.

“What’s Irving doing right now? When will he be back?”

“Making a deal. He’s already on his way back.”

“Good. Tell us the characteristics of the Type 3 virus.”

“...I don’t know... uh...”

Feeling Sibia suddenly move beneath him, Leon quickly backed away.

Alan raised his gun and went on alert. At the same time, he noticed something outside the window.

“Leon, looks like we’ve got trouble.”

Leon frowned at Sibia, who was clutching his throat and making increasingly shrill noises.

The truth serum must have reacted with the virus inside him.

Seriously?

Since when was Plaga this unstable?

“We’re out of time. They’ve surrounded us!”

Alan saw a zombie outside aiming an RPG directly at the building and immediately grabbed Leon, pulling him out of the room.

The next instant, a massive explosion erupted behind them.

The shockwave nearly knocked both of them off their feet.

Sibia was blasted into the wall as well. When he stood again, his head was gone, replaced by a huge fleshy growth with a tentacled maw.

“Yeah. I’m pretty sure that thing’s a Plaga.”

Before either of them could say anything more, bullets began hammering the cover in front of them.

Holes appeared one after another in the brick wall. It was only a matter of time before the gunfire punched straight through.

“This is exciting... All right, Leon. Ever heard of Jackie Chan?”

“Jackie Chan? Who’s that?”

“Then you at least know what parkour is.”

Alan looked toward the broken wall behind them, then down at the low buildings and piles of debris scattered below.

“We’ll meet outside the city. You should know the place.”

Leon shook his head.

“You’ve lost your mind. There’s no way we can... Hey!”

Before Leon could finish, Alan took a running start and jumped.

Gunfire followed right behind him, instantly riddling the spot where he had just landed.

Debris flew into the air, spinning away in every direction.

Leon’s eyelid twitched.

“What a lunatic!”

He gritted his teeth and waited for the line of fire to shift.

Then he jumped too.

“But I’m not bad myself!”

Whether it was bad luck or something else, a stray bullet struck Leon squarely in the back the moment he dropped.

The impact dispersed across his bulletproof vest, but it still scared the hell out of him.

“Damn it! Why weren’t you this accurate when you were shooting at Alan!?... Oh, shit. Forget I said that.”

Leon stared at the projectile already streaking toward him with a white trail and immediately dove toward nearby cover.

BOOM!

The rocket blasted a huge crater into the hard-packed ground, spraying yellow dirt everywhere and creating a natural smokescreen.

Leon scrambled back to his feet with dirt in his mouth. Ignoring the dizziness in his head, he sprinted toward the outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile, Alan had just vaulted into a house when he found himself staring directly at a Majini.

“Hi?”

“Roar!”

The AK erupted immediately.

Alan ducked beneath the stream of bullets, rushed forward, and kicked the magazine release, knocking the magazine free.

The Majini roared and kept raising the AK, only to realize it suddenly had nothing left to fire.

Before it could process what had happened, Alan’s foot made intimate contact with its groin.

Watching the zombie collapse while clutching itself, Alan raised an eyebrow.

“So you actually can feel that?”

He had barely finished speaking when footsteps and gunfire sounded behind him.

Alan glanced around, grabbed a sack of flour, and hurled it at the Majini coming through the doorway.

At the same time, he pulled the pin from a grenade and tossed it at the enemy’s feet.

Alan did not stick around to admire his work.

He dove through the window, smashing through the glass just as bullets began hammering the frame behind him.

The grenade detonated.

The blast sent the Majini flying and filled the entire room with flour.

The next group of Majini had barely entered when a spark flashed before their eyes.

Alan had just reached the next building when the shockwave behind him made him stop.

He turned around.

The house he had just left had been blown apart, and white flour drifted slowly through the air.

“That packed a punch, huh?”

With the gunfire temporarily silenced, Alan took the opportunity to sprint toward the edge of the city.

Hopefully Leon was having an easier time.

“...Damn it! This is getting ridiculous!”

Another rocket came screaming toward Leon and blasted him off his feet.

Leon wiped the mud from his face and sat half-upright on the ground.

Then he saw something he would never forget.

“...You’ve got to be kidding me. Zombies are chasing me in an armed truck?!”

The bullets already screaming toward him answered the question.

“Shit, shit, shit!”

...

“That’s strange... Why do I suddenly have such a bad feeling?”

“I’m curious. What could possibly make you feel uneasy?”

Chris shook his head.

He had no idea either.

Jill handed him the phone.

“All right. You can look now.”

Chris read the email on the screen, and his expression grew serious.

“Zombies that can use guns?”

“Mm-hmm. Sounds completely absurd.”

“If Wesker’s involved, it’s not impossible.”

Jill blinked and looked at Chris.

“You’re that sure this has something to do with Wesker?”

“Gut feeling.”

“Hearing you say that somehow makes it sound even more ridiculous.”

Chris got out of the car and looked up at the headquarters building, taking a moment to collect himself.

Jill got out as well and walked inside with him.

“What? Are you planning to go over there?”

“With Alan and Leon there, I’m not too worried. But from what we know now, the situation in Africa is more complicated than we expected. The branch over there probably needs additional security.”

“...You mean sending people?”

“I’ve been considering it. I need to talk to O’Brian.”

“All right. Got anyone in mind?”

Chris looked at Jill and nodded.

“Send Price and his team.”

“About what I expected. They’re always reliable... But why not me?”

“You’re my partner.”

Chris said nothing else after that.

Jill remained standing there for several seconds.

“...Chris, maybe you’re not completely hopeless after all.”

She raised an eyebrow, then hurried after him.

Chris: Hm? You are my partner. What’s wrong with that?

Claire: ...Bro, there’s no saving you.
