“Payment for the goods. You know the rules.”

A calm, low female voice echoed through the room, carrying a tone that left no room for refusal.

“Of course I do. This should be what you wanted.”

A card left the man’s hand and slid across the table to the other side.

“Want to check it?”

Seeing no trace of suspicion in the man’s eyes, Ada moved her hand away from her gun.

She picked up the card from the table, an unreadable smile appearing on her face.

“No. I trust you.”

“And the item...?”

“Oh, you’ll get yours.”

The USB drive left Ada’s hand, arcing through the air before the man caught it cleanly.

The moment he got it, he eagerly plugged it into the computer to check the contents.

His fingers flew across the keyboard before suddenly stopping.

“It’s actually real?”

By the time he looked up for confirmation, Ada had already disappeared without him noticing.

The nearby window trembled slightly, as though someone had just jumped through it.

A fierce wind howled outside as a streak of red swept rapidly through the air.

Two crisp clicks sounded in quick succession.

Ada slowly rose to her feet.

The grappling line retracted, and she slipped the grappling gun back into its holster.

Without hesitation, she headed straight for the extraction point she had planned in advance.

At the same time, she pulled out her phone and glanced over the latest intelligence as she walked.

“Hmm, Plaga?”

Her steps paused for the briefest moment before continuing.

Africa, Plaga, BOW...

“Looks like even without ‘Amber,’ you still have other channels. Careful as ever, Wesker.”

A hint of resignation flashed through Ada’s eyes.

She put the phone away, opened the car door, and slid into the driver’s seat.

“He’s still obsessed with throwing the world into chaos. Good thing I didn’t follow him one step further down that road. Still...”

Ada seemed to think of something, and the corner of her mouth curled slightly.

“I have a feeling a certain little puppy is going to catch the scent and follow him.”

Her slender fingers shifted lightly across the steering wheel.

Ada started the engine and pushed down the impulse she knew she shouldn’t be having.

The car pulled away, gradually blending into the noise of the city until every trace of it disappeared.

...

Leon suddenly shuddered and sneezed, startling Alan.

“Leon?”

“Ahem... Yeah, sorry. Maybe I caught a chill?”

Alan looked up at the cloudless blue sky.

“Sure. A chill.”

When Alan looked through the scope again, Wesker was already gone.

The freighter continued loading and unloading cargo as if nothing had happened.

Leon spent a moment contemplating life before looking back toward the distant ship.

“Ready to move?”

“Of course. You plant the tracker. I’ll cover you.”

Alan and Leon stood at the same time, adjusted their gear, and lowered the rope from the crevice again.

Once their equipment was secured, they descended quickly and headed straight for the harbor.

“Hey, Grace. Stop eating for a second.”

“...What did my eating ever do to you?”

Alan chuckled.

“We found Wesker. He’s aboard an ordinary-looking freighter disguised as a ship carrying Tricell cargo.”

Grace sucked in a breath.

“...I’m not sure that’s entirely good news. What are you planning to do?”

“Plant a tracker. We’ll let the ship keep floating out there for now and figure out the rest later.”

“What happened to charging straight in?”

“We know what Wesker can do.”

Leon looked slightly embarrassed but added anyway, “I’ve already had my ass kicked by him once. I’d rather not make it twice.”

Alan raised an eyebrow.

“Chris has had his ass kicked several times and still hasn’t learned.”

“That’s not entirely true. He did go out of his way to pack on all that muscle afterward.”

Grace Rowan cut off their banter.

“All right. The moment you activate the tracker, I’ll start saving its location data.”

“Exactly what we need. One more thing. Keep a constant eye on Tricell’s movements.”

“Got it. I’ll notify you immediately if anything comes up.”

The call ended, and the two picked up the pace.

Some time later, Alan reached the designated overwatch position.

He set up his rifle again and covered Leon as he slipped into the harbor to plant the tracker.

Leon had already covered a good distance and soon made it inside the port.

“Two workers behind the metal framework on your left.”

Leon immediately ducked into cover.

Only after the workers left did he continue toward the freighter, using the surrounding structures to stay hidden.

With Alan repeatedly warning him about patrols and blind spots, Leon reached the side of the ship without any trouble.

“Target’s right in front of me.”

“Relax. The tracker we had made for this test is pretty good. You don’t need to climb aboard. Just shoot it onto the hull.”

“Looks like all that money we spent on custom gear is finally paying off.”

Leon pulled out an oddly shaped gun and fired the tracker.

The small black device cut through the air.

With a crisp click, it latched firmly onto the hull.

“...I’m getting a signal from the device. Acquiring location... Got it!”

“Piece of cake~ All right, Alan, check my surroundings. I’m pulling out.”

Alan carefully scanned the area through his scope.

“Clear. Head back the same way you came. I’ll warn you if anything changes.”

“Got it.”

...

“They’re just circling around the Atlantic?”

“I checked. Some of the freighter’s declared cargo is vague, while the rest is just ordinary supplies for a normal voyage.”

“Looks like this is how they’ve always operated. Once they’re out at sea, they activate some kind of jamming system and carry out their research in secret.”

Chris stared at the red dot blinking steadily on the screen.

“Get me a few of those trackers.”

“Dream on. Pay for them first.”

Chris looked at Alan in confusion.

“They’re expensive?”

“Very.”

Jill clicked her tongue.

“If you guys consider them expensive, we probably can’t afford them. Especially for something that’s just a tracker.”

Leon looked curious.

“Since when did you guys know exactly how much we make?”

“With jobs like yours, anyone would be curious enough to check. Once you see the number, the curiosity disappears.”

Jill shrugged helplessly, making it clear that learning the truth had nearly brought tears to her eyes.

“Anyway, back to business. How did things go on your end?”

“Kobo Town?”

“Right.”

Chris thought for a moment.

“Exactly as we suspected. A lot of families suddenly had someone fall seriously ill and become bedridden. Thin black lines also started appearing across their bodies.”

“We also found the gang that was deliberately spreading the virus. Chris fired one grenade into the building, and suddenly they were all stumbling outside with their hands over their heads.”

Sheva sounded a little disappointed as she said it.

She never even got a chance to use the shotgun.

The gang members could only thank Sheva for leaving them in one piece.

Alan nodded, visibly relieved.

“At least there wasn’t a large-scale outbreak or mass casualties.”

Chris also relaxed slightly.

“The immediate crisis in Kobo Town is under control, but we still need to strengthen precautions elsewhere. There’s no way we can cover everything.”

Leon leaned against the table.

“I’m more concerned about Wesker. The last time something made him personally step in was Veronica.”

Alan also gave Sheva a quick explanation of just how dangerous Veronica had been.

“So we have to assume Wesker has something even more dangerous than Veronica.”

“If you ask me, why not just fire a missile at the freighter and blow the whole thing up?”

“...Sure. You go explain to the president why we did it.”

Grace’s face filled the screen as she broke into a grin.

“Haha. Never mind. Just a suggestion.”
