In the last episode, we met 23 trainees hoping to enter I-LAND. At first, we thought only 12 would make it, but now 16 trainees have advanced. 👏

Who among these 16 will be the four sent to the ground, with the rest of the trainees who didn't make into iland . We hope it's not Taki...💔

niki and taki are the same age ahah so he couldnt be jealous of how young taki was, although the way people treated the two really seemed different even though they were the same age cause they had different demeanors (i think people forget they’re the same age cause niki has a more mature feel than taki)

I'm so happy to be able to watch it again with you guys🥺💗 To be honest, this survival show traumatized me with its voting system hahaha, but even so, this survival show has a special place for me. I'm also annoyed with m-net's editing which seems to make Taki and Ni-ki's drama too much. I'm also sad about Heeseung's situation, he has actually tried his best to lead the team but many people don't appreciate him. I'm sure he only wants the best for the team. But again, you can see that they are still young so they still have high egos and at the beginning of the episode they still find it difficult to unite their opinions. In next few episodes ,they will start to embrace each other

on another note, there were a few trainees that really grew on me as they experienced growth, not just in their skills but in learning teamwork and collaboration throughout the entirety of iland so be excited for some character growth. i have to say though, i watched iland as it aired and heeseung has been my number one on iland from ep 1 all the way to the end

I never understood niki here and like how you said may be its him being desperate but honestly I don't stan enhypen now I don't know about him now but I hope he became a better version of his past self!!

I just wanna say I absolutely hate the editing of the show so much. They stated that each participant would have 4 votes each in the initial dropout vote and then I assume it was averaged out but we only see mention of this briefly while the trainees are talking and also that there are 4 slots whilst they are in the voting room. There’s also the fact that all 16 chosen to be in I-land are meant to be the most skilled so of course the choice is going to limited for who they consider to be lacking. Instead of explicitly stating the voting format though, they edited it to seem like they only picked one individual each and people are betraying their friends. Sure, adults may be able to consent to being portrayed a certain way or taking the role of a ‘villain’ for the sake of entertainment but it’s quite irresponsible to do that here in my opinion as so many are children. The obvious cuts in that conversation between EJ and Daniel to depict him as a shady friend, the weird little betrayal storyline between Ni-Ki and Taki when it’s not even been 24 hours? Like come on, seriously?? TO THIS DAY, the trainees from I-land are under constant scrutiny for being ‘bad people’ because of this dramatised depiction of what’s already a stressful experience. It’s quite frustrating to watch and I hope we can all keep that in mind. I’m only 20 but it genuinely boils my blood seeing the neglectful standards of reality tv being imposed on these kids even if they’re not that much younger than me lol. Some are even older but I don’t care 😂 They do a better job through &audition later on which is the show in which the group, &team was formed but it’s a shame I-land wasn’t a similarly chill environment. EXTRA: I also find it hilarious SEON was considered to be playing mind games by trying to be on friendly terms with people instead of using just his skill but then Ni-Ki and EJ are portrayed as being bad friends for picking based off of skill alone? I thought it was bold to have both storylines going on in the SAME episode considering they directly contradict eachother but I guess there’s still so many people who think ‘reality tv’ is based in literal reality and not manufactured for content and profit like every other media product. I’ll try to shut up and just enjoy the show now 😂

i think you guys not getting the individual scores are averaged and the no. of people eliminated are based on that until later kinda made it impossible to uderstand heesungs strategy i mean they needed to be indvidually evaluated cause thats how the judges will evaluate them and that will effect the entire group he wasnt even being harsh in my opinion he made them dance and then gave them pointers which is something entirely neccessary since this is a competition but the people who were lacking in skills were intimidated by that which i understand but i still preferred hee's approach cause it made them give a tighter performance

tbh we only saw taki being a fan of niki and always saying he likes him which is very cute obviously but from ni ki perspective we dont know how long he actually knows taki and were they just trainess from japan so they trained together as acquantainces? or were they like friends friends ?

i watched iland while it was airing a few years ago and if i remember correctly they were friends for about a year or 2 i think lol. def not acquaintances as we will see more of the interacting in coming episodes. either way that was very weird of him but like it’s a survival show and obviously taki wasn’t bitter about it.

Guys you misunderstood what niki said here 18:58 he meant that he thinks taki improved a lot and has *potential* to become his rival so if taki or himself gets sent to the ground they should push themselves and not be so discouraged. *it wasn’t guaranteed that taki would get eliminated even tho niki voted for him, more people have to vote for him too, and niki said before looking at the other 14 he’s not sure if taki is staying because we all have to agree he’s not at the same level of skills as many of them (during the show, now taki is doing so much better that it’s hard to believe he’s the same person we saw on this show) so you should expect him to be voted out not just by niki and niki KNEWWW, he was just trying to make sure he doesn’t lose the will to come back to I-land if he gets eliminated* Remember guys try not to overthink these boys’ actions moving forward, especially the younger ones, they might not make the best decisions there but we shouldn’t really expect them to, they’re kids and this atmosphere and amount of responsibility that was thrown at them is brutal whether they’re in I-land or ground. side note: niki and taki have the same age, so no age jealousy either

i come here after rewatching produce wanna one and if you think i-land is tough i still think produce is so much more brutal the first half of the season [ep 1-5] are very hard to watch for me .. its a far stretch but i really hope in the far future you can come back to dive into the deep end and watch produce wanna one ..

i personally didn’t see a problem with niki voting taki to go to ground honestly cause it’s quite obvious that taki was one of the trainees with the least amount of skill sets and needed to improve a lot so i thought it was fair. the fact that niki also told taki about it was very open of him and that would not make it “betrayal” honestly and i think he genuinely didn’t do it with any malicious intent and i wouldn’t say he’s jealous, he seemed happy for taki that he was improving, but i get where others may be coming from especially since they only saw 1 performance from everyone each and taki did impress everyone with his locking (me included). but i always thought this deciding who to dropout was mean 😭 now what i didn’t get was ej’s reason for his decision i won’t lie😭 but they maybe cut it out for evil editing 💀 even when he left the room, maybe that was evil editing too 😭😭 lol there’s one trainee that whenever i see him, i just roll my eyes like please get him off my screen yeah there are no eliminations from the show YET, just dropping to ground or going up to iland

i really disliked the hierarchy difference between iland and ground, like all the depressingly black uniforms, the depressing walls and only one space and just a dining table 😭😭 like damn they even had to come to the site early in the morning 😭

I lurk usually, but I've actually got the energy to word(at midnight), lol- I remember when this aired, a lot of people were not pleased with Ni-Ki's decision on Taki, but I think context and tone matters most with this. There were other interviews and behind that were shown, and Taki and Ni-Ki has trained together for about a year or a little more (if I remember correctly) they were close, very close which is why they got excited when they saw each other again. You have to remember that some of these kids trained in various places, and some in a few different companies other than BigHit Ent.(at the time before it became HYBE) So some have trained for months or a few years with each other, and you can kind of see who, by their interactions. They were not allowed to train together much once they were chosen for I-Land (to be one of the contestants on the show) though. (There's behind footage of this as well that explains it better than I could most likely lol) But Ni-Ki was young and he said essentially that Taki is every promising and could be his rival- in the tone he used those, the way he worded it- which we don't know if he meant it this way because he was still learning Korean- but he said it in the sense of he wants Taki to do better and be his rival. He sees him worthy, and I think NiKi thought that voting Taki out would be good for Taki. It would hopefully make him want to train harder. And then if they ever got to see each other again, NiKi would know if he made the right choice. From the talks on Naver cafe and even in the Weverse I-land section, Koreans couldn't understand why the hate toward Niki. it's just one of those cultural, language differences that is neither right or wrong. Also many hated the way Seon kind of 'played the field' in the beginning. Then with his words and how he kind of 'set up rules' for how to vote. But he wasn't entirely wrong and considering other things, it's completely understandable. He played the field because for him, he's thinking with that typical Kpop trainee mind- Once you're 23, that's it. your last chance. You can't debut as a 25 year old. This is a very typical thing. You don't see many 23-24-25 year olds debuting anymore, once upon a time, sure(in first gen groups is all I know). But you don't find people that age anymore debuting. He was on his last chance in his mind. So he was just trying to survive. The stuff he said about choosing who you think would make a good group, was honestly correct. You want to be in a group with people who you can get along with, and who are going to work hard and do well. But if you choose someone JUST because you like them... that's not going to benefit you if they don't put in the work, and are quick to give up. You also don't want someone who's controlling though as well. So he wasn't wrong. He probably could have said it a little differently, but he wasn't overstepping when he said that. I think I'm one of the ones who stuck with always voting for Taki. I just really liked him, knew he could be something- I think it was when he did the locking, his face. He was so happy and you could just see the joy. He was way more relaxed than trying to perform that other song. But the happiness on his face reminded me so much of Hobi and how he gets when he dances and performs. Like... happy face 24/7, even if he's not smiling, you can tell he's happy and having fun. Loved the reaction, it's super late for me, but thank you💜

youngbin 😒 really was being a bit ??? i’m sorry. how are you trying to blame heeseung for evaluating everyone individually? i thought that was a really good way of seeing who was lacking and to help them in correcting their dance moves tbh and everyone seemed to be okay with it, also like every move of his will get scrutinised when he performs on stage so this was for his and the team’s own good lol. i get that he didn’t really have much confidence but this making everyone turn on heeseung lmao i’m still salty about that. i also didn’t like the way they kept discussing things behind heeseung’s back, like i get they were trying to gather how and what to bring it up to him but it felt targeted when they confronted him. i think they could’ve just spoken to him the very first time at the dance practice, also he did change the move without telling them so that was a bit uncalled for ig

tbh since ni ki was waaay better dancer than most of them they treated niki as very much grownup where as taki was always seen as this cute little younger bro that they needed to take care of (which i understand) but it just seems a bit unfair that just cause your talented dancer doesnt automatically make you a very mature adult if your 14 your gonna behave how a 14 yr old would in a competition

Just to clarify Niki isn’t jealous of Taki for being young. Looking back I honestly have to respect Niki for being mature and objective in this situation. Taki can’t be sent to the ground if only one person voted for him. A lot of ppl besides Niki voted for Taki bc as cute as he is, he isn’t as skilled. So if Niki only did it out of jealousy and was the only one to vote for him, Taki wouldn’t have been sent to the ground. But as I said, Taki is so sweet but the other members noticed that his skill is lacking. So I think it’s completely fair and understandable to vote for him. At the time I didn’t agree with Niki, but looking back and knowing Niki, and how the evil editing works, I honestly don’t think what Niki did was as bad at it was made out to be. I honestly think it’s very mature of Niki to be able to be objective and vote for the person he thinks is lacking in skill, even if it’s one of his friends. I respect that he wasn’t biased and like I said, Niki wasnt the only person to vote for him. A lot of other ppl voted for Taki too. So clearly other ppl saw Taki lacking in that aspect too.

as someone who loves niki and taki, honestly i think going to the ground was the best for taki to push him more. he's a great dancer but he had other skills he needed to work on. i respect all the boys so much bc i could never do so well under so much pressure lol

This episode is where I fell for Jay. I was so impressed with him trying for a part over and over again. He wanted to show himself. Others were so scared to throw their hat in the ring, but he just wanted an opportunity to prove himself. And he sacrificed his pride for his shot. That, to me, shows tremendous character and grit and that immediately made him my #1 vote through the show. I don't get why it became a funny meme. I literally cried watching him get rejected and keep fighting over and over. And I watched a Korean person react to this and they thought Jay's forwardness was a turn off for the others because it wasn't culturally ideal behavior. I'm American and so is Jay so maybe that's less of a concern for us...like maybe we're just generally more comfortable with asking for what we want directly. Just different cultural values. haha. But I definitely got the impression that the other boys were voting less on voice and more to put him in his place or humble him or something. But the way he just kept trying was just so beautiful to me. I was less impressed with Heeseung and Ni-Ki who seemed to want the spotlight but were less willing to say they wanted it. Ni-Ki, I get. He's like 14 here and doesn't speak Korean well and is less familiar with trainee dynamics...but Heeseung is as much a pro as anyone in this house and a lot older. He is clearly someone everyone in the house respects and admires and I think he let them down a little. Just generally, I thought he showed poor leadership this episode. They nominated him for position 1 because of his talent and experience and he expected that meant they would follow his lead and not ask questions but they barely know him so it's fair for them to want to reevaluate if they feel like he's not making good choices. Heeseung even said he had a plan that he just didn't disclose to them. Why wouldn't he have a conversation about what he wanted to achieve and how upfront? And Daniel's complaint that Heeseung was spending more time with the people who were already doing the best which was hurting the balance of the team, was very fair, too. I think these guys do that consistently throughout the show, tbh. They create a cool kids club and leave teamwork behind a little. Daniel was right to call that out. And as far as the choreo goes, I think it was really poor judgment on Heeseung's part to try to change the choreo. But I don't think that was pre-mediated, tbf. I think what probably happened is that he messed up the choreo. He got it wrong and when they showed him he was wrong, he tried to play it off like it was intentional and he liked his better, because they put him on a pedestal and he didn't want to admit he made a mistake. But they should definitely stick to the original choreo. Like we all see how Mr. Son is (haha). Imagine if they had actually changed parts of it. Oof. That's just not an okay move for a trainee to make. But the others could have been more upfront about disagreeing. Like as soon as they noticed the discrepancy, one voice of dissent saying "no, I think we should stick to the original" would have been best. But that's another thing I think is cultural. Like confrontation is really not something they're used to doing or comfortable with (even non-combative confrontation). You know how Yoongi always says that no one wanted to fight when the boys first met so they actively made sure to confront each other when they had issues or conflicts? And Yoongi always gives that advice to juniors, too, like TXT. I think it's because there's a cultural aversion to confrontation but the reality is, talking face to face about things you disagree about builds trust and closeness and an ability to be empathetic and vulnerable over time. So you have to fight if you're on a team. Because otherwise, you're just going to swallow your thoughts until they come out in a more toxic way, like they did in the choreo situation. I-Land really helped me contextualize Bang PD and Yoongi's "don't be afraid to fight" rule. Also, I understand how reality shows work but like Ni-Ki voted for Taki and EJ voted for Daniel and that's just the facts. Justify it however you want but the reality is, they both put the careers and dreams of their friends at risk. It wasn't a nice thing to do. So "evil editing" blah...it happened. But I'm not mad at them for it. I think it's fair, because it's within the rules of the game and I happen to agree that Taki and EJ are, at the time, among the least skilled here (although I'm happy to report I'm big fans of them now!). But also, I think they should have known better than to vote on skill anyway. The people who looked at character and what kind of energy they would bring to the team had it right, I think. If I'm picking a team, I'm thinking who is going to be ride or die for the team over self, who is going to be willing to put in the work, who wants this more than anything, who do I want to spend the day with and the evening after a hard day with, who is going to help me get through this and who has the mentality to fight when the chips are down? If they made it to I-Land, presumably they're already good enough dancers and singers to be an idol. At least 6 of the boys who are here and didn't make Enhypen debuted with great success in other groups so they all have the requisite skill. So what they should be looking at is what kind of people do they want on their team--what kind of traits do they want among the members. Meanwhile Sunghoon's over here looking for "good looks." -_-

I have watched the show like multiple times and actually youngbin is being very dramatic, I really felt that the way heeseung evaluated them individually was great because when you debut as an idol you have fancams, so you need to be great and if you can’t get feedback and take it very personal I think you are really not suited for being an idol. I really think all the I-landers apart from the big hit trainees were really setting up heeseung just for one move it really didn’t make sense at all. You’ll see in the next episodes the development of each of the boys. About Youngbing again, I’ll say he was just making excuses cause JAKE did amazing and he has the same short period of training as his. For the Niki and taki situation, I did think TAKI compared to the others really needed more skills so I really got Nikis point of view. As you said for heeseung, he leads in a way he was trained in his 3 years, he nearly made it to txt so if I were to trust all of the I-landers there it will be heeseung. Sunghoon and Jay I think they could comprehend Heeseungs intentions and I’m glad you guys don’t remember some of the Enhypen members but there was always a top debut lineup even, you’ll get to see it on episode 6. Can’t wait for next episode 💜

he definitely became better in every aspect but that “his past self” is too dramatic😭. I honestly wouldn’t do that to a friend either but it doesn’t mean that he’s bad for doing it, I actually respect him for it, considering his young age, the fact that he took this whole show seriously and wasn’t like “no he’s my friend so I’m gonna vote for someone that’s more skilled than him to be eliminated just because of my personal connection to him” he voted for 3 of the least skilled ones there too and not just taki and that’s something that some adults don’t have the courage to do. you can see it as a negative betrayal but if you really think about it he was one of the most serious contestants on the show that we truly felt his desperation, and alongside his skills that’s what got him to win that whole show.

They really set my man heeseung up for failure lol. And if y’all thought his leadership training is hard wait until you hear how the producers evaluate them. It’s about making the best team to debut, can’t sugarcoat anything. Get ready for an emotional draining rollercoaster lol. Also I get ni-ki, he knew taki wasn’t as ready as the others.

actually heeseung way of leading was very smart. Each one of them needed a high score to have no dropouts so he made them dance individually to see and help who was lacking. He didnt even said anything bad to youngbin about his skills (just that he needed confidence) and encouraged him to trust in himself and suddenly everyone started disliking heeseung leadership. Could be because different training methods but heeseung at that time trained at big hit for 3 years and even with txt members for a while so in that situation i would trust in his experience blindly

For me, with the taki ni-ki thing, i get ni-ki honestly bc im someone who Always prefers honesty over loyalty as long as its not coming from a place of hate yk? I would rather my friend say im not doing well enough currently and have the potential to push myself and make it back rather than them just saying stuff out of loyalty or wanting me around just because we’re friends like i would never want to be a weak link and have no one tell me because of friendship or loyalty. And the everyone against heeseung makes me SO annoyed everytime i watch this. I think youngbin just doesnt have the mindset of this maybe bc hes still new to training or just how he is idk. But I like that jake didn’t crumble under the pressure and get his feelings hurt and take everything so personal. Heeseung was just leading the way he was taught (and yeah he made mistakes like trying to change a part of the dance), but everything could have been avoided if they just said that to him instead of talking behind his back woth multiple people. And the shock when sunoo was first voted out… side eye to everyone in there forever lol and jungwon is so amazing constantly. And Jay ugh i admire him so much hes so resilient, and i love his mindset and everything about him.

Also keep in mind that ni-ki and taki are the same age (and if im not mistaken, taki is like a few months older than ni-ki actually). It always so sad to me how everyone always sees taki as someone who needs to be protected but ni-ki is just seen as older than he is and ppl are less understanding of him and put so much pressure . (not saying u guys are tho) its just something so many people do and still do to ni-ki til this day honestly, with seeing him as older than he is idk

I absolutely love ENHYPEN, so I am genuinely enjoying re-watching i-land episodes again with you guys!! It's always so interesting to see people react to the show who are watching it for the first time. This show really put a lot of intense pressure and demands on these boys (most of whom were actual children), under unusual circumstances of being "caged for 3 months" (Jungwon's words recently, not mine lol), and it only gets worse every episode. But to a degree it does provide interesting insight into what it takes to be a trainee and debut at Hybe.

Heesueng was nearly 100% correct with everything. They admire him because of his talent and he didn’t get there on his own, he was trained. They have a lot to learn from him. The only thing that may be critiqued is the changing of the choreo and even that wasn’t decided based on selfish reasons, heesueng knew their were weak links in the group and in making it “easier” it allowed for more people to hit the moves, again, he’s basing it off of how they’ll be judged (as a group), that move wasn’t hard for him, he didn’t change it for himself but for everyone else. He was very mature, encouraging, and thoughtful and they didn’t appreciate him at all for that. If youngbin felt humiliated by the individual performances (which heesueng did to see where people needed extra help) then imagine how Heesueng felt to be attacked like that.

I think the fact that Taki knew who voted him out and why does show that Ni-ki probably told him. The show wasn’t airing and they didn’t have phones so they must have had some conversation about it. Taki did need to grow a bit during this time.

I feel like Sunoo was unfairly voted out for many circumstances, he wasn’t lacking but also did not stand out all the time but he always performed well, I guess they felt threatened. My boy went through a lot that’s for sure 😭😂 even when he performed better than most his results were always a shock to me.

it's so funny. If Heesung teaching style is on the aggressive side then on what side Boys Planets mentors teaching style ? He was so nice ,giving compliments instead of criticism. Like you can't handle dancing in front of eleven trainees? And you want to became professional idol in a few months? They have 6 days to perfect a performance that gonna be judged by millions of people. They need to fix every detail of choreography. And feedback from other dancers are really helpful for that . And about Niki situation. While voting you need to think about your opponents. You can vote out strong ones so you have more chances to debut ,less competition. But you also need to think about your career after debut. You can vote for your friends with less skills so after debut they can keep constantly bringing group down. And also interesting things to keep in mind. They are trainees. They used to losing friends ,giving each other harsh feedback each month during monthly evaluations . BTS also lost numerous friends who were cut from training .

You should remember that the show manipulates the footage to tell the story they think will captivate the audience. Every boy there voted for 4 boys to leave, so no one person was responsible for any one boy who left.
