Axe removed from his waist, Corvo readied it in both hands, locking eyes with Weiss who’d placed one foot in front of the other, that intricate looking rapier of hers at the ready. Both of them activated their respective aura shields, the gauges on the screen above showing off their aura levels for everyone to see.

Rather than the fact that they were the main producers of dust, the main reason he remembered the Schnee name at all was because they were one of the few with a semblance that ran through their family. A rarity. He’d thought it was cool at the time and remembered it being called powerful, but he’d figured he’d never run into a Schnee and didn’t bother memorizing the exact details.

Creating platforms that could be used to get around and that manipulation she’d done with the dust in her weapon. It wasn’t much information, but he should be able to figure out more if he stayed on guard.

“Begin!”

It was almost instant.

He took a step forward at Glynda’s declaration, one of those black symbols appearing beneath Weiss feet at the same time. He’d thought she was going to launch herself overhead and go for some kind of aerial advantage only to end up leaning out of the way, narrowly avoiding a blade that was little more than a blur to him. Somehow having launched herself at him at a speed that might’ve outclassed Ruby’s, she also managed to come to a dead stop in front of him, ponytail flying forward as her rapier came back for another stab.

But that was only the speed of the initial stab. Those that followed were quick but easily tracked and direct, Corvo avoiding and blocking them with the flat of his Axe’s blade.

Were those odd symbols of her capable of providing a speed boost of some kind?

Avoiding a stab for his face, he swung his axe, Weiss managing to pull back her blade in time to block. The difference in strength between them was readily apparent, Weiss stumbling back slightly, perfect balance lost.

Launching after her, he kept up swings that forced her further and further back.

She definitely had the speed advantage even if that initial burst of it was nothing more than a one off thing, but it didn’t mean a thing if by the time she’d regained her bearings she was being forced to block another blow she couldn’t put up a solid enough guard against.

She realized that too, and, rather than blocking his latest blow, she bent herself backward, his axe harmlessly passing over her as the metallic whirl of his weapon’s cylinder filled the arena.

Some kind of dust attack was going to come his way. Dodge or press forward?

Tightening the grip he had on his axe and tracking her rapier, he gave chase, weapon chucked forward.

His spinning axe hit her weapon as her heels clicked against the arena, forcing it aside. The wave of flames that she expected to chase him off and give her room, flew wide, nothing other than the heat of the attack breezing past. He jumped up and grabbed his axe, coming down on her with a heavy slash.

A black glyph stopped his blade.

It wasn’t like the others, this one possessing kind of clock like hands that began to spin. Pressure suddenly crashing into him, Corvo was sent back from the thing, another whirl filling the air.

Only to land on another, the black symbol carrying a blackish purple glow.

Rather than sending him flying away, this time pressure came crashing down onto every part of his body. Knees weak, arms heavy, and the weird sense of nausea hitting him, it felt like the symbol was trying to pull him down into it, effort needed just to stay standing.

Yet another of those metallic whirl’s filled the air, Weiss stepping forward and stabbing her weapon into the arena ground, a wave of shiver inducing frost passing before ice rushed forward. In the same moment the black symbol of her semblance and the pressure it brought vanished, a thick sheet of ice encased his feet, rooting him in place.

And Weiss was already preparing another rush forward, one of those symbols appearing beneath her.

Corvo couldn’t help but grin as he shifted his axe into his right hand.

Weiss was a lot stronger than he first thought.

XOXO

Who was she supposed to cheer for?

Corvo was the obvious answer but they both knew she was trying to get Weiss to be her friend or at least be a little less crabby all the time. He wouldn’t mind if he cheered for her, right? It could help them have a conversation afterwards. But that would be betrayal she couldn’t take back. Cheering for someone to beat up her own twin had to be some kind of crime somewhere.

Why can teammates even fight each other? Ruby groaned.

“Stop worrying so much, Ruby.” Yang said, bumping her elbow into her leg from the row below. “Just enjoy the fight. It looks like he’s about to use his semblance.”

Yang was right. Weiss, with those weird symbols had managed to push off then trap him, ready to take off with that same super fast stab she started with.

She had a cool weapon, a cool semblance, and seemed super smart. Weiss would actually make an awesome teammate if she wasn’t so mean about everything.

“What is his semblance?” Pyrrha asked.

“Pure awesome.” Ruby said, refocusing on the fight.

XOXO

Corvo brought the fingers of his left hand together.

Weiss pulled her rapier back further.

He pressed his fingers together beginning a snap.

Weiss vanished.

Snap!

Head bent out of the way and axe slamming against the ice at his feet, Corvo freed himself Weiss’s blurred figure appearing at the end of his semblance’s range. She was moving fast, faster than anyone else he’d ever caught in the range of his ability, but it still wasn’t enough.

One.

He grabbed her wrist as blade began to pass over his shoulder, a slash from his axe left across her chest.

Two.

As she slowly began to move back, face slowly twisting, he brought his axe back for a second swing then kicked her stomach.

Three.

Ending the effects of his semblance early Weiss was sent flying back, tumbling to the edge of the arena, managing to stop herself before she went out.

Corvo flipped her rapier, catching it by the handle and looking it over. The length itself was normal for a rapier but everything else stood out about it. The almost entirely silver-gray color scheme, the chamber of dust just above the handles, and just the general design. Running his fingers across the cold metal, he found what he was looking for, opening up and bending the blade from the handle so he could get a look into the chamber with all the dust.

She had space for quite a few different types of dust and could probably completely change them out in preparation for other use cases. It wasn’t the most efficient thing, a balance between form and function the target, but he couldn’t find any part of it that couldn’t be called perfect.

“Hey!” Weiss called out, standing back up. “Don’t mess around with that. Its worth more than you.”

Harsh but he wouldn’t want anyone messing with Waxing Rose.

“Sorry.” He apologized while slipping the blade beneath his cloak and hanging it off his belt before doing the same to his weapon.

“What are you-“

He rushed at her, Weiss cutting herself off by throwing her entire body away from his pouch. Before she could fully stand up, he was already on her again, a kick slammed into her forearms. He made sure not to kick her out of the arena, Weiss sent tumbling along its edge.

XOXO

“This guy...” Yang muttered, Ruby right there with her.

Corvo had the win right there. With Weiss disarmed and at the edge of the arena, one little kick was all it would’ve taken for the match to go to him. But nope. He put away his weapon to make it a fair fight and kept it going.

Ring outs were a boring way to win. He’d said that plenty of times and while he definitely wasn’t wrong, they were in the middle of class. Even she knew this wasn’t the place to be playing around like that.

“Your brother is awesome, Yang.” Nora, the orange haired girl on Pyrrha’s team said. “Kick her in her smug face!” They all knew who she was rooting for in the match.

“At least he seems to be enjoying himself.” Pyrrha said.

Ruby would say that was a good thing, but when Corvo was enjoying himself that usually meant the person he was fighting wasn’t. And Weiss didn’t like them at all so she could only imagine what was going through her head.

Why can teammates even fight? Ruby groaned to herself again. This fight was going to make things more complicated, wasn’t it?

XOXO

“Hey.” Corvo questioned as he caught both of Weiss’s wrists and pulled them down, revealing her shocked face. “Are you no good without your weapon?”

The moment he disarmed her she’d been on the defensive. And she was struggling. Punches, kicks, grabs like this. She couldn’t fend off any of it, taking more hits dead on than he expected. Even after he eased up on the force, giving her a little bit of breathing room and time to use that semblance of hers, none of the symbols made a return.

Did her semblance depend on dust? No that couldn’t be right. There were semblances that were strengthened and able to be used in different ways with dust, but he’d never heard of any fully reliant on it. Maybe her weapon helped her focus it and she wasn’t used to going without it?

She definitely wasn’t used to hand to hand fighting, that was for sure.

“Be quiet.” She retorted trying and failing to break his grip, far too weak to even shake his hands.

This wasn’t a challenge anymore. If it wasn’t a challenge, then he wouldn’t get any better. More importantly, there was nothing fun about an easy fight.

Corvo let her go and jump back. Rapier pulled from his waist, he tossed it over to her while pulling his weapon out too. Weiss caught her weapon, only to glare at him.

“What do you think you’re doing?” She questioned, voice raised and filled with irritation.

“I want to fight you at your best.” He said, readying his axe. “Things are more fun that way.”

“Fun?” Weiss repeated. “You-“ Weiss stabbed shorter, rapier raised beside her head. Corvo blinked nearly taking a step back as those symbols, pure white this time, began to appear around him. “I’ll show you fun.”

She forward, Corvo barely stepping out of the way and beginning to twist after her. He barely managed to turn halfway before she shot past again, landing on a symbol she formed behind him and shooting off of it with as much speed as the initial rush.

And he was trapped in a cage of those symbols.

His grin returned as he adjusted, managing to force her blade off its intended mark, the attack on grazing his cheek. She was fast, faster than Ruby, but the attacks were one note, she only coming from the direction she shot towards. That didn’t mean he could block all her attacks, the next managing to cut past his leg.

This was more like it.

XOXO

(A/N: Didn't think I'd have a practice match take up a whole chapter but that's Corvo for you. Bro gave up what should've been his victory of the story for a harder fight. Bro's embody Goku right now.)
